This is a small mom and pop business, that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, and great staff. This is one of my faves when I visit, I have to get their deluxe chili cheese burrito. Out had the most tender meat and its smothered cheesiness. This place never fails me, and the portion size is enough for two meals for just under $ 10. They also have have excellent tacos but can never get both because the taco are a good size as well.

Villar’s is a café my wife and I frequent monthly. We like the good service and the freshness of the many favorites we enjoy. The portions are large and you can tell Time is spent to cook each recipe the Same everyday. My wife loves the Beef Taco, I normally order the Beef Tostada, although the Burrito Is a real deal. The burrito fills a platter, we’ve actually shared it and both of us were very Satisfied when we finished

Villar’s Mexican Café, not to be confused with Villar’s Mexico Café Delano, and most certainly not to be mistaken for El Mexico Café, is the Villar family’s most recent of many, many restaurants this family has had in Wichita over the years. The menu is largely the same at both this and the Delano location, and based upon my review of the latter, you would think I would be ready to ream this place in a similar fashion. While the concepts and preparation seem to be pretty similar(number of microwave doors slammed while waiting for my meal: 9), here there was a little more care put into the whole enchilada, in a manner of speaking. Some kind of combo meal. The freshly-fried and very largo flour taco was filled with ground beef that was thankfully seasoned. Chili verde had large pork chunks that were tender and not dry. The cheese enchilada and its accompanying sauce ended up occupying half of my plate. I got the feeling the beefy sauce was meant to extend the meal and justify the slightly higher prices than I would normally expect for this type of food. Ditto for the single tamale I added on the side, which was also covered in the enchilada sauce. Rice and beans passed muster, though neither were extraordinary. They were better once I dumped a good bit of the salsa on there — the hot, not the mild, which tasted like canned tomato sauce. Entirely by accident, I ended up ordering almost the same exact meal that I had at Mexico Café Delano two years ago. This meal didn’t suffer from the same flaws. This isn’t my type of Mexican food, but at least at Villar’s Mexican Café I can understand why people continue to walk through the door. It serves as a better homage to the Villar legacy of the past 35 years.

The first time that my husband and I came to Villar’s Mexican Café, I was apprehensive because of some other posts that I had seen on another site. We were impressed by the waitress, she was attentive and made sure that our drinks were refilled. I had the Jalisco plate, which was using real cheese and it wasn’t over spiced to where it burned my mouth. The Taco was fresh, the beans and rice were cooked to perfection. My husband was thrilled with his dish and relished every bite. The other establishment that is on South Seneca could learn a few things from the original owner of this mexican restaurant. We will be back many more times if we start craving this type of food. Mary, the owners mother is working at the Delano restaurant providing the hand rolled tortillas, ect. I am anxious to try the restaurant in Delano because it is closer than the one on Hillside, but rest assured that we will be back.
