Disgusting!!! Filthy restaurant. Health department needs to pay this place a visit. If they do they’d be shut down in 10 minutes.

Filthy!!! I don’t know how they are allowed to stay open. We have been there twice this week because we are staying on the property and anyone can have a bad experience. They don’t provide the full dinners and sides unless you ask and even when we asked the fresh fruit never arrived with our breakfast. The service was very slow, I asked for decaffeinated coffee, it arrived cold with my bill. Ugh. Stay away

We went for the breakfast buffet Sunday. The fruit looked like it was left over from the day before. There were two pancakes left. They were at least ¾ of an inch thick and hard from being dried out. The cinnamon rolls were also hard from being dried out. The danish rolls were the type that you find in multi-packs in grocery stores. The coffee they initially brought us was lukewarm. It took about 10 minutes for them to bring hot coffee. Fortunately the rest of the coffee was hot. Last summer we went for the breakfast buffet and everything was fresh so I know it isn’t always like this. We went for dinner one evening and I asked for their burger cooked medium rare. It was way past well done. On the plus side, while their service is slow, their servers are friendly.

Location’s fine though the facilities are a bit long in the tooth. Service was friendly enough. Kitchen is glacially slow. Food is ok, not great. Prices are high for southern Illinois and are about what you’d expect in a metropolitan area. Trouble is, the product doesn’t stack up.

My parents live in Southern Illinois, not far from this restaurant so we usually end up here for dinner whenever I visit. The atmosphere is casual, we usually eat in the bar area — scratch that, we always eat in the bar area and now that I think about it, I don’t ever think I’ve been in the dining room. I love the all the windows in the bar and the openness they provide. The service is friendly, but I have to say lax. This last visit, they were out of the day’s soup special,(clam chowder) and did not tell my Dad who had ordered it until they brought the rest of our soups and salads so he had to wait for them to bring something else while the rest of us ate. When the entrées came, half of his was missing and still being prepared in the kitchen. It took almost an additional ten minutes for the rest of his meal to appear. And that just seems to be the way it goes here. Sometimes they are spot on and other times, they are so laid back you wonder if you’re a paying customer at all. Overall the food is decent. They’ve got good sandwiches, really good french fries and pretty kickin’ fried chicken. But you’ll need to keep it simple as it seems whenever we have ordered the more ambitious dishes, they can be as disappointing as the service.

Located lakeside at Rend Lake Resort which is contained within Wayne Fitzgerald State Park property. Attractive building with shaded or unshaded patio overlooking the water. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere and staff. We went for breakfast, shared a Big Dog Breakfast at $ 9.95, enough food for 3 or 4 people. Pancake, bacon, and biscuit & gravy were very good but we were disappointed in the coffee, the soggy and very greasy breakfast potatoes and in the sausage patties. The ambience is great; maybe we were just grumpy or unlucky. We would try it again, perhaps at a different meal — open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
