Listen, a bunch of guys including Williams’ offspring Jr. came out to my house early and machete’d their way through an annoying date palm along with other dumb trees that came with the property that I just bought. Why did they have to do this by hand you ask? Well, there was no way for them to get their fancy lumberjack machinery to the yard since I have an enclosed patio. No access? No problem! They used ladders to climb the fence and hack their way through the mini forest I had going on. It took them a total of 4 hours to clear out my whole yard and cleaned up the neighbor’s yard of any debris that may have been a result of my trees being cleared. It was a pricey job but very reasonable based on industry standards. I will recommend them to anyone who needs their bushes cleared.

This company works fast. Too fast for nesting birds to get out of the way. They are also very efficient in taking leaf blowers onto rooftops to clean up after the trees they remove. This, of course, will blow debris into neighboring yards. Unfortunately, because of water restrictions imposed by the drought, homeowners are not allowed to hose off driveways or wash their cars on non-watering days to clean up. My tip to people who hire companies like this: Have the courtesy to give your neighbors a heads-up. This will give your neighbors time to move their cars out of the way — which is better than one can say for the birds! In California, non-emergency tree removal is possible year-around thanks to the mild weather we enjoy most of the year here. That being said, destruction of nesting sites are a violation of the federal Migratory Bird Act, among other laws aimed at protecting wildlife during breeding season. For this reason, landscaping and tree-trimming companies must do due diligence at this time of year before they trim or remove trees. While few companies make an overt effort to educate their customers, that doesn’t mean it is permissible to fell trees without first inspecting them for nesting birds. If you are planning to contact this or another company like it, please ask questions and/or make an effort to obtain advice from the right authorities. Doing so can help verify whether birds are actively nesting on your property during the Spring and Summer months. If this sounds like too much trouble, there is a simpler solution: Opt for non-emergency tree removal at a time of year that will not potentially run afoul of the law. California Department of Fish and Wildlife:(888) 334‑2258 For nesting surveys:(858) 467‑4201 For those who do not give a hoot about birds, there are other considerations. For one, some species of tree do not thrive when pruned during inclement conditions, while other species may contract diseases spread by cutting tools at some times of year more so than others. Given that the Southern California climate is more than adequate for this type of outdoor work year-around, why schedule such work at the height of the summer rush, at which time workers are likely to bake beneath a 100-degree sun — or, conversely, wake your neighbors at some ungodly early hour on a weekend in attempt to avoid the daytime heat — when the work could be scheduled at a more accommodating time of year? Finally, many people are surprised to find that after a large tree is removed their yards become significantly hotter — a factor for the safety of outdoor pets and children — and their homes more costly to cool. Keeping a lawn and other plants alive, if they are accustomed to the shade provided by a mature tree, will also require more liberal use of water(effort!) post tree removal. So even if you don’t care much for birds, electing during the heat of summer to remove or heavily cut back a mature tree is rarely ideal timing — for a whole host of reasons.

A crew of 6 men came out to remove two fruit trees including stumps as well as trim some badly overgrown magnolias on the front curb. They were fast, thorough and friendly. The total cost was reasonable and they completely cleaned up the work site and hauled away all debris. I felt the crew was honorable and would recommend them to others.

We have used Greg Williams’ Tree Service for the past two years and have found them professional and accommodating all three or four times. They clean up nicely after they are done, and the tree trimmers, clean up crews and supervisors know their jobs well and do it as fast as possible. They are worth the money.
