Westchester County Airport – HPN

Don’t expect to encounter anyone polite in this airport. Especially TSA. Good grief, they definitely love riding their high horse around here. They could take a few lessons in manners from the MCO TSA who actually treat people with respect. Avoid this airport if at all possible. Not to mention there’s all of one restaurant here and no seating space as I stand typing this r

I really have no problem with the airport as it is very convenient and quick BUT I am here right now and it is soooo cold! They have fans going like it’s not already 30 degrees outside. My hair is blowing around that is how much the fans are going.

So easy and convenient. Smaller is better in this case. Flights can be more expensive but it’s worth it to pay more to have shorter lines. TSA seems to be just a bit nicer here than at most airports. Best flights to FL on JetBlue. I see people commenting on the waiting area being small but that’s more of a problem when people show up too early when they’re flights are delayed. The beauty of this airport is that you can stay home when your flight is delayed!!!

Small, but good for quick flights. No long lines, no traffic to get here. The staff here bell have like they work in a parking lot of a shopping center, and not like they run an airport.

Such a difference between HPN and the three larger airports in NY. I’ve flown in twice but never out, both times on US/​AA from CLT. Everything about HPN is super easy. The plane lands, you walk out, and you’re at baggage claim. There’s no reentry into the terminal, not much in terms of shops, but you get clean restrooms and a decently quick baggage claim. It took about 15 minutes for me to get off the plane and into the car. Super convenient. I’d absolutely fly into/​out of HPN again.

Small regional airport that’s more convenient than JFK/​LGA — this alone saves it from being a 1 star airport. The facility is greatly lacking compared to what you’d expect based on the volume of folks who fly through, and not what you’d expect being so close to hoighty-​toighty Westchester.
All flights I’ve had here have utilized the outdoor walkway to your aircraft. Yea, its covered, but that doesn’t help when the rain is coming sideways. The indoor waiting area is more like a makeshift retail store with dingy drop-​tile ceilings and horribly cramped bathrooms. The area by the boarding doors is confusing with several flights often boarding at the same time very close to each other. You have to pay close attention. Nothing like hearing the airline attendants at the doors talk over each other on a loud speaker, giving the same commands and making the same requests. Food: There’s only one small convenient store-​type set up past security. They sell the typical airport food/​supplies for the same price. It’s the equivalent of a gas station convenient store at the airport.
If memory serves me correctly, there’s only two (possibly a third mystery location) bathrooms for each gender to serve the masses of people once you get through security. You’ll find bigger bathrooms in studio apartments in Brooklyn. Seriously.
Arriving here and getting to your rental car is also no treat. The car rental counters are at the opposite end of the airport from the outdoor parking lot where the rental cars reside.
Smaller airports in more remote places that handle larger volumes of people do a better job (Williston ND and Midland TX come to mind). I’ll continue to fly in and out of here due to the convenient location, but that’s about the only reason why.

It a great airport! Very fast lines. Never any long lines. Thank god! I flew to ft lauderdal last Thursday night and everything was great!

Lines are short, security is a breeze but after that all conveniences are gone. Seating is at a minimum, preflight food and drink is limited to a handful of prepackaged junk food choices.
I feel like waiting for a flight is like corralling the cows up for slaughter. We’re cramped, anxious and have no idea what’s happening.

This is a great little airport and there are several direct flights from FLL and PBI, so makes travel from South Florida super easy. It is easy to get in and out of the airport when being dropped off or picked up.
The biggest drawback to HPN is that once you get through TSA screening there is virtually no room to wait for your plane. The waiting area is very small and cramped. It is fine, unless you have a big delay.
The location is great if you need to get into New York or Connecticut.
When you arrive at HPN, don’t worry about what baggage claim they said on the plane, because there is only one. LOL.

I have taken flights coming in and out of this place.
Small, quick, simple and fantastic service.
When I use other airports, I usually feel completely stressed because of how busy they are. I personally do not like taking airports with «big names» because of the risk factor of them always being targeted with one thing or another.
Here is not the case, I am always at ease.
Checking in is quick and easy. Security line is never too long, which makes me feel even better because they actually pay attention to what is going through the monitors.
Grant it, they don’t really have a lot of food choices here, but that is something I would easily deal with. The overall goal of all airports is to assure people comfort and that is exactly what this place does.
Recently, I was not even suppose to land home at this airport. My flight into Newark got canceled and they were only able to find a flight into this place – and honestly, I was really happy about it.
And here is ANOTHER reason why I love this place so much…
After landing, my bag that I checked in back in Austin did not come out with the rest of the luggage.
I was beyond nervous that the airline lost my bag. I went right over to American Airline customer service. The lady asked for my name and immediately knew who I was and brought my bag right out to me.
This would have NEVER happened in other airports – it would have taken such a long time to find it because of the amount of people traveling in and out of them.
For a place so small to know exactly who I am right then in there was the best feeling — I was actually shocked it was that easy!
Drop off and pick up is also a breeze. There is no traffic and people are able to drop you off and not feel rushed like other places.
And pick up — its easy to spot your ride and its even easier for your ride to find you.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is traveling.

Small airport, one terminal with 6 gates, A-​F, no food options here, one small snack bar with only junk available, not impressed

I have always loved this airport due to the fact that it is small and very efficient. This airport had smaller planes and many times will cost more than regular airports but if you live in the area it is easier than going to La Guardia and JFK.
The airport itself is very well taken care off and had some amenities that other airports do not have like, slippers to wear in your feet when you walk through the machine.
The people are friendly and very helpful. Cheerfulness is something that many airports lack in their employees but this one everyone willing to help no matter the matter. They treat you like people and make you feel at home not like your a criminal which I have felt in many airports.
I would suggest if you live in white plains or the surrounding areas try to come in this way, you getter better service and great experience.

Being from Fairfield County in CT this is my go to airport!
It is very small and only a handful of airlines fly in/​out of it, but if you fly Jet Blue/​US Airways and a couple other airlines (if memory serves) this is the place to go! Typically, it takes 15 minutes or less to get from car, through security, to your gate– so amazing. I’ve also found the TSA area to be one of the more hospitable– they even have little booties and Ziploc bags available as a courtesy.
My preferred airport, for sure.

I like this small airport and the location. It is centrally located near Greenwich, which I am sure makes the locals very happy! But, I enjoyed the scenic direct roads to the airport and travel to and from this airport while visiting in Connecticut.
The airport is pretty. I loved all the pretty flowers. The check-​in process was a little hectic. I had some difficulty getting my boarding passes and seat assignment for my return flight out of this airport. Apparently, the agents multi-​task and you are not quit sure which line to stand in or for how long. Since it such a small airport, people standing awaiting boarding make it more chaotic. I would just make sure you have your boarding passes and luggage paid for prior to arrival for your departing flight here. It is a beautiful and more peaceful alternative to other nearby airports.
Small express jets fly into/​out of this airport — so your typical carry-​on luggage may need to be checked in at the curb.

I’ve been to HPN enough times for it to warrant a review from me. Located in White Plains right off of I-​684, HPN is a small airport and a good alternative to LGA or JFK for those living in Westchester and CT. Though I live in the Bronx, if the ticket price is right I’ll fly out of here.
I usually travel JetBlue and get better deals flying out of here compared to the city airports. Additionally, because of its small size, there’s a lot less craziness to deal with in regards to crowds. There is only one terminal, and the parking lots are extremely close to it which makes it an easy in and out if you need to park.
This may be a silly gripe, but I don’t find HPN to be «impressive» — flying out of LGA and JFK in the past, I’ve gotten an idea of what an airport offers — and because of its small size, HPN doesn’t offer much. There’s a small Dunkin’ Donuts before the security checkpoint, and a small food shop past security which offers a selection of prepared food and quick to-​go stuff. There’s also a small lounge located on the second level. I know it may seem silly, but airports are exciting places for me — HPN doesn’t get me excited.
HPN is definitely convenient and a good alternative to the busier NYC airports — it serves it’s purpose but lacks on the extras. Happy travels!

I had a good experience here. Not very crowded. Sit down and wait your turn. Agents are helpful and courteous. This is a pretty efficient airport.

This is a really easy airport that has direct flights to a few destinations. The airspace up in White Plains is a little clearer than around LGA, so flight departures and arrivals are a little more predictable.
The best way to describe the terminal at HPN is to call it a bus terminal. After going through security, you are basically in a glass box. The airport is busting at the seams — I literally do not think they could add another flight to the schedule. It is difficult to find a seat at times.
This airport does participate in TSA Pre-​Check, but no other priority lanes exist.
Minus one star due to airport operations.
–All real food options are pre-​security
–All gate agents, front desk agents, etc. are contracted by the airlines. Nobody actually works for Delta or US Air or JetBlue. They work for the airport directly, so anything that causes irregular operations results in that person having to call a special direct number to the airline to get assistance.
–Winter flights are tough here because these are mostly regional jets. There was an occasions last winter where my flight was cancelled because they literally could not dig one of the airplanes out of the snow.
Regardless, the boarding process makes you feel like you are flying private. It is worth the price to avoid LGA by flying out of HPN.

Decided to fly out of Westchester and deal with a connection rather than taking a long shuttleride for a direct flight from JFK. I’ve heard others find this airport to be convenient, so maybe I just had a stroke of bad luck. But, you guys, this was ter-​ri-​ble!
I got to the airport 90 min early. There was a MASSIVE security line. It’s ok, I thought. I’ve got TSA precheck on my side. «TSA precheck is closed. Go to the end of the regular line.» Ok, plan B, I have status on this airline and can use the elite line. «There is no elite line. There is only one security line. Get in it. And we are going to let everyone with an earlier flight cut in front of you.» Oh swell.
So…fast forward one hour and ten minutes later (yup), and I finally get near the front. There are two lines funneling into one TSA agent checking IDs, plus three TSA agents just standing there bossing people around for no purpose (maybe one of them could’ve, I dunno, helped check people through?). One of the unnecessary herders has no idea how alternating between the two lines works. Lady in front of me asks why he isn’t letting her go because her name is being paged by the airline, he vindictively let’s 5 more people from the other line cut in front of her just to flex his «muscle». Shouting ensues, I try to find my happy place.
More shouting from the gate agents who are trying to get 100 people to loiter somewhere other than the boarding area (I do hate when people do that so not a criticism of the agents, just another descriptor of the lovely «ambience» of this airport).
So, maybe it isn’t always like this. Maybe. But I fly a fair amount and this airport on this day was easily in the top three worst I’ve ever dealt with (the flights themselves aside). Just a terrible combination of understaffing, ineptitude, and frustration.

This airport is small and easily to go around, this is first time in an airport that is not much of a line at Security. I love that I don’t have to arrive three hours prior to my flight and I’m usually stress-​free during on the time spent here. They have Free Wi-​Fi
The only bad think is, they are not too much store or restaurant to buy stuff.
