This bar gets it. Great burgers and the bartenders have auspiciousness to them that makes for great conversation. Also the organization for the weekends is impressive.

This sports bar is always busy and has extremely good service! They’re located right on Mamaroneck, which is where everything in White Plains is centered around. There’s definitely a lot of foot traffic due to the range of restaurants and people still choose Black Bear out of the endless possibilities, so that says something in itself. I’m not sure if it’s 21 and up because they asked for our ID upon entrance. Our waitress was very friendly and she checked up on us multiple times throughout our dinner. The food is not your typical greasy bar food. It looks and tastes phenomenal. The portions are huge and the price gives you the most bang for your buck! We got the calamari as an appetizer and it was seasoned perfectly. The marinara it was paired with had a little heat and was simply delicious. I got pasta and my boyfriend got steak and we still rave about it a month after visiting. We will definitely be back!

You know how you have those spots where in spite of crap service and whatnot you decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and come back again? That’s my experience with Black Bear over the years, but now I’m done with this dump. Years ago a friend and I go to a boxing event at the Westchester County Center and decided to dress up a little more«high end» for it. Afterwards we decided to hit Mamaroneck Ave. for a few drinks and we come across Black Bear, where after eyeing my friend up and down for a minute the bouncers decided they weren’t going to let him in, I ask why and what the problem is but they basically gave no real response. Looking into the place there were people who were dressed far worse than we were, so what was the problem? Maybe it had something to do with the fact that he was a large African American, and based on a couple of similar stories that I had heard I was inclined to believe that. But yet I’d wind up having someone I know start bartending there or DJing there, in once case I knew someone who wound up managing the place for a while, and the constant response to that story above was«Oh we’re so sorry, that’s not what the place is like now, please come back, ect ect.» Ok, so I come back, I give it another chance, but then something stupid happens and I’m turned off by the place. So nowadays they’re billing themselves as a «sports bar» yet they’re also maintaining the whole night club/bar combo gimmick on the weekends while trying to push more«high end» food on their menu. There was one review of the now deceased Iron Shaker that I read on Unilocal that talked about how attempting these kinds of hybrids will result in failure, how your establishment needs to be one thing or the other, otherwise the place is doomed. It’s also pretty much common knowledge to most in Westchester that the Westchester Knicks play out of White Plains at the County Center, yet this«sports bar» doesn’t have a single thing representing them in the establishment. Way to show support for the local team there. My most recent incident and the straw that broke the camels back was a few months back as I went in to watch a UFCPPV. To start with they had the sound off for the PPV and just had the DJ blaring music. Then as if that wasn’t bad enough after an hour and a half a bouncer comes up to me and tells me that I’m not allowed to wear my hat. Kind of fascinating that suddenly my attire became a problem as the bouncers at the door let me in while I was wearing said hat with no issue, I point that out to this guy and he just gives me further attitude, telling me he doesn’t care and it needs to come off now or I need to go. At that point I finish my drink and I walk out, and looking back at this jerk he’s sitting there chuckling at me about all this, that’s a real classy and dignified way to treat a customer. I’m left to assume that my attire magically became a problem only after an hour and a half of giving this place my money, then suddenly I wasn’t wanted there anymore. What was even more mind blowing is that I go onto their Facebook page that night and one of the first images you see is A GUYWEARING A HAT, and it was a picture that was posted less than a week beforehand. Honestly how many sports bars does anyone out there know of that enforce a dress code? It’s one of the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Bob Hyland’s Sports Page certainly doesn’t, nor does Rudys just to give a couple of local examples. I write in about all this on their webpage and I don’t get a response back from anybody. I write about this on their Facebook page and it winds up getting deleted, normally I’d complain about that and I’d call it cowardly but here I have to laugh because it took whoever is running their Facebook page over a week to even notice my post, what was even funnier were the number of people who were liking my post. Forget hibernation, it’s time to just kill of this bear altogether. And please don’t tell me that it can’t or won’t happen because they get crowds on the weekend, yeah so did places like the Thirsty Turtle, Butterfield 8, the Lazy Lounge, Dooleys, and the Porter House and they’re all gone, one can only hope this place suffers the same fate and soon.

Great Burger cooked just as I asked medium rare and fresh lettuce and delicious sautéed onions. My wife got a spinach salad with shrimp and I could see it was nicely presented as well and she said the shrimp were fresh and perfectly cooked. Its right near where I work so I’ll be back. They have outdoor tables too. Inside its like a sports bar, and a big bar dominates the joint. The server was nice and efficient. Also, we shared a crab cake appetizer which was as good as any fancy restaurant.

Very good sports bar on the Mamaroneck Ave strip. Always seems to be buzzing, and with tons of big screen TVs, there is always a game, or event going that you can enjoy. There is also plenty of room, including a front side patio during the warmer times of the year, so its a good place to just chill, even if you have no interest in what is being shown on the TVs. Food is normal for a traditional sports bar, but there are often specials, including late night ones, and has a good selection of beers.

Unilocal reviews steered me wrong on this one. Food wasn’t anything to rave about. Just your regular bar food but very greasy and tasteless. Sorry but won’t be going back for the food. However, Waitress was very pleasant, and the bar has a pretty cool concept, that’s why I gave it 2 stars.

The food is good, which is why I am not giving it 1 star. The server was extremely incompetent. Instead of accepting the mistakes she made, she told the entire table that it was her mistake, but we still have to pay the prices on the menu, not the prices that she told us. She ordered us the wrong drinks, and it took over 10 minutes to receive our corrected drinks. Disappointing. To the owner, please make sure all servers are trained before having them serve customers.

Me and my boyfriend went to the black bear bar for their $ 1 dollar mug drinks, which is an awesome deal, but when we get our drinks they are so warm! We didn’t finish them and just pushed them aside, I guess you get what you pay for, the beers were pored from a previously pored pitcher sitting on the side… so I asked for a drink menu, the waitress told me they didn’t have one and this made me not have another drink. Not much of a variety unless you’re just drinking beer and basic drinks.

I went there for lunch the other day. Positives: 1) The guacamole and bacon burger was terrific. I asked for medium and it came out with a nice char on the outside and pink on the inside. I may be wrong but the patty also looks to be handmade instead of being spit out of some processing machine. The cook knows how to make a great burger. The bun, lettuce and tomato were nice and fresh and the bacon was cooked well just like I like it. The burger also comes with a sweet potato fries option for the same price as the regular fries. The fries were great as well. 2) The onion soup had a nice rich broth and it came with extra toast. It was one of the better onion soups I’ve had in a while. 3) The bartender was friendly and attentive. He didn’t hover over me but did check on me a few times. Negatives: 1) The place is a bit of a dive compared to the other half dozen bars on the same block. In fact, the only reason I went there in the first place was to use a Groupon I had. 2) The beer selection is pretty poor. In this day and age you need to have a bigger selection than the standard Blue Moon, Sam Adams, Bud Light — especially when you have a half dozen bars on the same block with extensive beer menus. Bottom line — I’m undecided about returning to the Black Bear.

Citrus-lime wings… OMGSOGOOD!!! And there house made blues cheese is off the chain. I always pay extra for a large container when I do takeout. Never sat an are here, way to crowded it I have stopped by on many occasions and picked up these wings. They are really good. Tonight I got the itch, so I placed my order and shall be picking up in the next 15mins. Bön-appetit!
