Pretty good, cheap fish sandwiches, better than Mcdonalds, but nothing mind blowing. It is a must for Wheeling, WV though I must say.

Still can’t beat this place. When I come home to Wheeling to visit I have to stop here for some fish. I live in VA near DC. I have to pay about $ 18 for descent fish n chips where I live. This place is very reasonbly priced and extremely good food. Don’t pass it by you’ll be sorry.

Coleman’s offers a variety of hot seafood dishes while also serving as a fishmonger. I had a fried fish sandwich. It was pretty good; it had a perfect batter to meat ratio. Their oyster stew was enjoyable. I liked the broth way more than anything else.

This ageless wonder serves fantastic fried fish sandwiches at impossibly reasonable prices. Pair one with some cole slaw and don’t hesitate to slather on some of their house tartar sauce. My lone complaint is that they use white bread instead of whole wheat or sourdough.

So much fish you can hardly open your mouth wide enough. And fried just right. Onion rings too good to share!

This is my second time here, and both times I got the basic fish sandwich. As the other reviewers say, it is indeed enough fish for two sandwiches. The breading is light and spiced well, pulling the flavors together in a surprising way. Yes, I’m talking about a fish sandwich. It’s no wonder the locals here love it. It comes on sliced white bread though, and though that isn’t my favorite way to serve it up, everyone here loves it that way. Tartar sauce is an extra charge, but the prices here are just right, so splurge for the sauce if you need it. The seasoned fries are a bit on the spicier side of average, and somehow it feels like that’s the way it ought to be. There is a line for special seafood like shrimp and oysters, but I can’t tell you about that though.

Excellent. It’s a fish market, not a restaurant. So don’t get all fancied up. The fish is fresh and the Clam Chowda is excellent! I read a few reviews here were people were complaining, not fancy enough, lol. Any sit down restaurant in the area probably purchased their fish from Coleman’s. So it’s like having 2nd hand fish. I’ll stick with the fresh fish direct. If they are not super busy, i go to the special order line and get grilled fish with rice and stir fry veggies. It’s fantastic for $ 7 and some change. Love Coleman’s famous fish sandwich and the meals from the special order line.

100 yrs in business, family run. Nice fresh fish sandwich, always packed. It’s in the Centre Market place. Whenever I visit my Dad in West Virginia we always go there. Stand in line, order your food, wait and take it to table to eat. Nothing fancy, just good food.

Coleman’s has the best fish I have ever had. I am not a big fan of fish but I do like it here. Also be sure to get the seasoned fries.

It pains me to do this since this place is so sentimental to me(seriously, my 86 year old mother used to eat here when she was a child).but have to revise last review. One of two things has happened… the quality of the fish has gone way way way down hill… or Im just so spoiled now by the spectacular fried haddock sandwiches we have in Maine… in reality, it’s probably a combination. What can I say? Anxiously went today as I was passing through town .and the legendary fish sanwhich just was not very good at all. Very thin, dry and heavily breaded. Perhaps it was just an off day… nevertheless, can’t recommend going out of your way to eat here any more. I will probably be back one day to see if this was an anomaly… but for now, I’m sad.

I’m glad we read the reviews. The signs there didn’t make it clear how to order … there are 2 lines. the main line sells only Paddock sandwiches .the«special» line is for everything else. The Canadian white fish seemed to be what the other reviewers liked so that’s what we had. and thanks to the other reviews we got the deluxe sandwiches. the plain bread would get sogged out and greasy. GET the deluxe. we tried the fried oysters … they were too small and over cooked for me. but the breading was light. Perhaps they usually have larger oysters? beware you cannt order other thing in the second line … they take that kinda serious. several of the mostly highly rated restaurants in this area are in this food court that appears to have been an old train station. we went to the nearby pie place … Olives I think is the name. yum

Having grown up in the Ohio Valley, Coleman’s has always been a local favorite. This place is almost always packed. I’ve been here probably a hundred times in my life and have never ordered anything other than a traditional fish sandwich. The large pieces of fish are deliciously breaded, though I could do without the mushy white bread. The cole slaw is sweet and crunchy, and the fries are always fresh.

This place is just down right not good. The only thing good about Coleman’s is the cheaper«fresh» fish prices. 1 lb. live lobster for 9.95 and a lb. of jumbo sea scallops for 12.95. Other than that, the fish sandwich is so bland that its hard to finish, the bread is cheap and thin white bread, and the batter on the fish is so mealy its like eating cardboard. I don’t care if this place is a «staple» in Wheeling, people need to travel and see what a real good fish sandwich is all about.

Step back in time in historic Centre Market Wheeling and enjoy fare from a very wide selection of fresh seafood. Favorites are the fish sandwich which is breaded and deep fried white fish. I’ve been eating here my whole life and the quality is top notch. This is a West Virginia treasure folks not to be missed.

The food may be delicious but due to a horribly rude woman behind the counter my boyfriend and I chose to leave without trying it.
