Wheaton Express Secretary of State Facility – DMV

Very fast and very helpful. Sylvia was very helpful sorting through my mess if papers to find valid forms of residence. Despite all the paper sorting, I was in and out in no time. Much better here than the DMV in naperville!

I somehow lost my drivers license at the last Unilocal event, and, long story short, I had to go to the DuPage Co Courthouse to get some paperwork before heading back to the DMV for a replacement.
I was ready to drive back to the Lombard DMV, but luckily I found this much-​closer DMV via my handy dandy Unilocal app. It’s small and since it’s in a storefront (not a separate building), drove by it twice. Whoops!
Here’s how it works:
1^st/​Left line: Sticker renewals
Center/​2^nd line: Licences, IDs, address changes
It’s First Come/​First Served from the 1^st/​left line and despite this, does move quickly. I arrived at around 3:15 PM on a Friday and was the third person in the center/​second line. The left line already had 3 people waiting but were still helped first as more people walked in. I got to the counter the first time within 10 minutes, and I left the facility by 3:50.
Need to do a written or road exam? Not here!
Need a vehicle sticker but haven’t gotten your emissions test? Don’t waste your time: I saw several people turned away.
Staff was friendly overall and pretty efficient. The woman who helped me explained I could go to a full-​service DMV for my tests/​renewal since I need to get it done by May, but I opted for the replacement DL in the meantime and will renew later. There was some confusion on whether I needed a pic retake for the replacement DL (nope). The cashier could have been friendlier and greeted me first before gesturing for my cash.
Parking was ample and there wasn’t any charge for parking in the lot across the street.
In all, this is a quick solid spot to get your no-​frills DMV duties taken care of!

I would give this place negative stars if I could. «Express» is a joke. After waiting a half an hour to get a drivers license, I was denied and treated so rudely and disrespectfully by the lady at the counter. If I talk to people coming into my work that way I wouldn’t have a job. Last time I checked I’m still a tax paying citizen paying her salary!
Jesse White should be ashamed of having such rude people working for him!

Best DMV. The employees are nice, helpful and quick. I go to this DMV whenever possible and do my best to avoid all other locations in the area. I recently had to renew my license and it was tricky due to a recent move. The staff was overly helpful and working together we were able to get everything updated very quickly, all while entertaining my 19month old and 2 month old.

If I can avoid going to any other facility, I do. The Wheaton staff members are quick, courteous and friendly. Parking may not always be convenient but the short wait time makes up for any extra steps you have to take to get in the door.

This place used to be great and very helpful and friendly but there must have been a change in management recently. Gina is awful and shouldn’t work with people.

I thought «express» meant I’d be in and out like wham bam thank you maam. Technically, the «express» part means they only do certain types of services here. They aren’t a full-​service location, so they don’t do any sort of permit or license testing here. You’ll have to go to Aurora or Naperville for that.
If you’re just coming for a sticker, you will get right out and still have time to enjoy your lunch break. If you’re coming for anything else, you might have to still wait. I was getting my license and ID address changed, so I had to wait in a line of about 20 people. The best thing I can say about this is that the employees here were incredibly friendly. At my old DMV, I used to have to pop some Xanax before going there because they were so rude. One of the employees named Joe mentioned that in a survey people rated the DMV below going to the dentist and they were trying to change that impression. He was cracking me up and the girl that waited on me was nice too (didn’t catch her name.) She made small talk with me while she did all the paperwork.
To save yourself time, make sure you check online for the accepted paperwork, so you don’t get to the front of the line and have to come back. I checked online and had brought my credit report and my Comed bill. I believe I was here about 40 minutes total.
Side note: they do accept credit cards, but they charge you fees based on the amount charged. Your best bet is cash or check.

There’s a young man here who is always so pleasant; he never stops smiling and is always going the extra mile. DMV’s are known for having crabby workers; he’s turning that stigma around! Overall: great for quicker service than the Lombard location but the lines can be long. Note: they charge a fee for credit! They do accept visa now as well.

I went there and the woman with white hair told me to bring original document in every each of one Group One proof of each group, so I did, but when I return she has another unreasonable reason. And when I try to talk she didn’t listen and interrupt me. And I wonder nothings wrong with my document I just follow what the instruction said, then I decide to go to other office, they gave me id without any difficulties. They think they are God, I wasting time and money. I’m sorry but I am just telling the truth

Awesome express facility for my registration. I didn’t catch her name but closest to the door, young blonde curly hair girl u are awesome!!! Multi tasker and had me and the lady behind me out the door WITHIN 5 mins!

The idea of an «express» DMV intrigued me.
The wait was definitely short. But I’ve experienced shorter wait times at the non-​express Naperville location.
Employees were sort of friendly. I had forgotten that I would need a medical report, so they gave me the form and sent me on my way.
But they were not helpful at all when I asked what I needed to do to drop the requirement of the medical report. They told me to ask my physician. My physician told me to ask the DMV.
I ended up going to Naperville once I did have the completed medical report. The employees there are more friendly and have a better working knowledge of this stuff.

The staff is always friendly, at least compared to a normal DMV. The facility is small so plan on occasionally standing outside as part of a line. If you’re on a tight schedule I wouldn’t recommend coming here before 2pm since there’s always other people on their lunch breaks at this location.

New license in under 5 minutes. Just decided to pop in on the way to the airport because of a flight delay. Best DMV I have ever been to and with cheerful employees, to boot. Alternate universe perhaps, but I will take it.

Update # 4 — came to get my license renewed on Monday, June 16^th, 2014:
Arrived about 1pm, walked in, and there was literally no line, I walked right up to the appropriate register (while in general this facility does usually have quick service, do NOT expect to walk in every time and see ‘no lines’ or just see 3 – 4 customers in the place. That is NOT the norm — was just happenstance for me today :) Note that the lines did pick up a bit a few minutes after my arrival, but still nothing hectic.
Did my vision test, got my new photo. I was in and out in about 15 – 17 minutes — the longest part of the wait was waiting with 3 other people for our photos to be taken. Overall though, still not bad at all.
Employees I dealt with were pretty friendly again. One even complimented my hair.
Still highly recommend. I haven’t had any bad or even mediocre service from this place yet. I would recommend going during non-​peak hours — say right after the morning rush hour (10am or so), or right after the lunch rush (1−3pm perhaps) to be in and out quicker.

We both came here to change our licenses but I also had to renew mine. He only had 1 accepted piece of mail luckily Michael was quick on his feet and let me be another proof of residency. I needed a written test apparently so we need to go to another location. Bummer. Still excellent, fast service!

I love that I don’t have to drive to the main facility to take cake of my driving business. As long as you don’t have to take a test, I gleaned that you can accomplish a lot of tasks here. Those include License and ID Renewal. Sticker Renewal, Driving Records, and Disability Placards. A quick note: They DO NOT ACCEPT VISA. Only cash, check, or any other CC.

Hidden little gem as the Lombard DMV is your typical nightmare scenario. Only bummer is they don’t offer the same services at the little shop.

It was fast and reliable. Great staff working there. Very organized and no waiting in long lines to renew your driver license!

I did not know how great I had it when I lived here. The line moves quick. I’ve gone the past four summers after work for the City of Wheaton Public Works Department.
Sure, no one has cracked a smile since WWII in this building, but they are good at their jobs inside here!
I love teaching in Central Illinois. The reasons I would come back is for the amazing dining options in the area, my family, and to see my friends! Enjoy yourself with this SOS office. I have never waited more than 20 minutes here. At Central Illinois location, I ended up waiting 45 mins!!! STILL NO SERVICE!
At this point, I cried (a little), called my mom (cried, yelled, screamed, and pouted like a little kid), and went through the online process! Hooray technology!

Now I never had a problem with this place, and the lines have always moved fairly fast but my opinion has forever been forever tarnished.
I went here to change my drivers license, and address the day we moved. I took care of all my info and was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. I could never understand why people always complained about DMV’s! Well fast forward a year later, almost exactly.
I went to early vote for the president, like I had 4 years ago just fine. Only to be stopped at the last second after waiting in line for 30 minutes by not being in the system. What? Not in the system? I mean I completely didn’t exist. They gave me a number to call and said I bet it’s the DMV all the problems we have come from them.
Ok then. So I called the number and guess what? This awesome DMV didn’t send in my information at all, they had a «still pending» remark next to it. So I was SOL and registration was over for voting so I had to drive to the county clerk and do it all over again that Saturday. Oh and my husband was registered just fine. I mean really? You couldn’t just send over the information the same time?
So let me tell you how much I loved wasting a Saturday driving out of my way to be re-​registering all over again! It got done and worked out but man, it could have been all avoided if they just hit the «send» button… I mean even a stamp on the documents! It makes me wonder what else they aren’t doing. I post it note in the mail or something like «hey we never sent this in» would have been better than nothing. /​rant
