Jack Straw’s Pizza

One star is one too many stars for this place. We have been coming here for 16 years. Over the last couple of years we order from here less and less. Today will be the last day we ever give our business to Jack Straws.
The pizza is good. It is really good. The staff is what totally ruins this place. When the Manager is not here it is a bunch of kids who do their best to make sure you never come back. Well today they succeeded.
The employees intentionally try to ruin your order because they are angry with the Manager and Owner. The Manager has no problem treating his employees horribly in front of you the customer. I am tired of being caught in the middle of this management mess.
There are plenty of other places to eat in Wheaton. Stay away from this place. You will feel like you were robbed of your money.

Food is decent, counter help is very nice. The manager not sure of his name, Older gentleman was not such a gentleman. Very rude and short with staff, customers on phone, and in drive through. Not sure how he keeps help. I probably won’t return because of the severity of his attitude problem. I won’t support someone’s business who treats others like that! The Hispanic man who served me my food with a smile and was running around working so hard.. Props to you for keeping your held held high and walking with integrity. Thank you also for your smile. It didn’t go unnoticed.

Super Small pizza slices, super expensive, could honestly get a cheaper and better hot dog at wrigley. Not worth the money in my opinion

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. Waited nearly two hours. Called about 10 times and received no answer, just saying «you have reached a voice mailbox that is full» What kind of place does this? Was this a cell phone? Ordered through Grubhub, thankfully was able to get a refund. Grubhub even tried calling them at 3 different numbers and NO ANSWER! If there was an option for 0 stars this place would get it. I have never in my life had this type of experience. I can’t even believe after all the other negative reviews that this place is still in business. A place that doesn’t answer the phone for their customers, who are spending good money does not deserve my business, and I will let EVERYONE I know to never go to this place. They are the worst excuse for a business as I have ever seen.

Love this place. It is worth noting that seating is only out door and is limited. But the thin crust is the best in dupage county

Placed an order through grub hub and it never showed. No one called or anything. Never again!

My job placed an order and what we got was a joke! The fries were thrown in the bag so we have a mixture of sweet potato fries and regular fries. The man burgers were not clearly marked so we spent ten minutes trying to figure out whose burger it was and the food was cold! I won’t be ordering with the group again from this restaurant.

I’m not sure what happened., I used to love their Shaw Supreme pizza. I ordered it this week and didn’t even eat most of it. The veggies were all different sizes, hardly any cheese, so disappointed.

If I could give zero stars I would! Ordered their wings, fries and a Philly cheesesteak… The fries were soggy cold and burned (probably old fries refried) the wings were horrible… And I ordered buffalo sauce wings… Apparently you have to dip your soggy wings in the buffalo sauce? I ate one and threw the rest. Even the dipping sauces were gross. Not sure how that’s even possible. And when the delivery guy brought us our food he asks us if we ordered a soda he said oh I have to go get it in my car… He brings up a warm dr. pepper when I ordered a Pepsi? They didn’t even have dr. pepper on their menu… So maybe he just had it sitting in his car for himself for later? Anyways horrible food horrible customer service never ordering again and will be sure to spread the word!

Best pizza ever! It takes a while for them to get your food ready but the food is so good it is worth the wait! I am going to be trying the hot dogs soon!

Really good slices of pizza but hard not to order one of their burgers. Fries are top notch.

Been waiting 50 minutes for something they quoted me 20 for… par for the course these days

Order from here atleast two times a month. Love their variety, tried almost everything on the menu. Never been disappointed. Customer for life.

Nothing but horrible service from this restaurant! The online discounts NEVER work, delivery always takes hours and food is cold and undercooked. When you ask to speak to a manager don’t expect any respect or resolution. Rude employees, cheap tasteless food and the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Waited awhile. Called and got hung up on twice. When someone did answer they said 15min and hung up. Screw this place! I don’t care how good food is. Find some new employees or keep losing business. You lost my family’s that’s for sure!

I used to go to Jack Straw’s all the time when I was in elementary, but it’s been a while! I was feeling lazy and couldn’t leave the house, so I opted to have a burger and fries delivered through the Eat24 app. I ordered the cheeseburger, medium well done, with extra mushrooms and grilled onion, as well as a small side of sweet potato fries with honey mustard dipping sauce. The order came in 34 minutes (the estimate was 45 – 60 minutes) and the delivery man was nice enough. I enjoyed the fries and sauce, and I wanted to like the burger… it would have been excellent if the bun hadn’t been so soggy. It fell apart right away, and I actually ended up eating it with a knife and fork.

Burger was great. They didnt bring the salad dressing or cutlery for the salad though. So I was left running around the hotel to find a fork, which isn’t the end of the world but was definitely annoying.

Ordered online for delivery. Got the Greek gyro combo and they forgot my fries. Good gyro, but it was a small order. How do you forget my fries? Also, it’s overpriced for what it is.

Let me start by saying, my family has gone to Jack Straws for as long as I can remember. I enjoy the food. But the two stars I’m giving them is generous.
Good food only gets you so far. I will admit I’m a year or two late in posting, but the incidents were enough that we have not returned.
Incident 1: We thought we’d try for delivery. Heard it was pretty fast, and we like the food. Got a wrap, a burger, and my husband and I were going to get a salad to share. Paid over the phone with a credit card. Upon delivery, we had a $ 70 order and a catering sized salad at our door. When we called back to see what had happened. When placing the order asking if we wanted a small or large salad, we had said just enough for two people to share. Apparently they took that as the catering order and sent us a whole tray — not thinking it was strange. Although we should have fought it, we took what we paid for, and ended up bringing it to a party the next day.
Incident 2: We thought we’d give them another chance. The first time (although negligent I believe on their part) could have been a miscommunication. So we made another small order, a few items for dinner. Again, paid with a CC over the phone. When checking the bank statement the next day, I discovered they’d charged us twice. Exact same amount, just a double swipe. My husband called and they denied it (with attitude). He printed out our bank statement and took it in. Received with nothing else but attitude. Even the manager (and I believe owner’s son?) was nothing but nasty and seemed like my husband was inconveniencing him by asking for the refund of the second charge — not that he was inconveniencing my husband by making him print things and go in to prove that they messed up. Not a way to run a business.
All in all — it’s disappointing. I like the food. I am all about supporting small and local business. But my husband (and I suppose I) aren’t going to continue to support somewhere that treats their customers like garbage.
(Side note: I have run into a few current and past employees over the years outside of the location, and they have confirmed that our stories are nothing out of the ordinary, and actually have sided with us, and our stance on not going back. If your own people don’t condone you, who will?)

It’s a hot dog place that’s been there forever, but what I don’t get is why is the staff so rude? It’s rare I can get just common curtesy when I am a customer. I’ve gone for years because food is decent but overpriced, but I think I am done. There’s other places to go.

The lunch special pricing is awesome! The picnic tables are great on a nice day. Service is not the most friendly but they get the orders right and in a timely manner so I’m ok with that. The pizza sauce is on the sweet side and the pepperoni pizza was pretty darn greasy… But was delicious. With all the amazing pizza places in the area I think place competes because of the prices and outdoor seating but not as the number one pizza. However it also provides pizza by the slice which is awesome!

Had to give Jack Straw’s another shot, this time with a simple slice of cheese pizza. What a salty mess. Too bad, as it’s a great location, and I love the picnic tables outside.

I wasn’t to nice when I had to sign my charge with my finger on a cell phone but after I got over it I was rewarded. The food was great. I had one of their Philly’s and my wife got their cheeseburger. Both were very good. A little pricey but I will be back again. I hadn’t been there in years.

Great pizza horrible help!!! My friend and I had never been here before until today and unfortunately will never be back. The pizza is good but it doesn’t make up for how horrible we were treated. well there is a parking lot right in the back and apparently it’s employee parking we did not notice but It was a fair mistake. We ran in to pick up our pizzas and when we came out someone had parked behind us. we were blocked in & he noticed and came out to move it just as we we’re going in to say we couldn’t get out. Well anyway we apologized & said honest mistake. While he scoffed and pretty much talked crap to us then finally moved his car all angry about it. Needless to say I am very disappointed especially since I spent so much. He was completely rude and disrespectful.

Let me start of by saying this: Jack Straw’s is a Wheaton institution.
This is a nice place for kids to go and spend their allowance on a burger, a hot dog, or baked piece of dough with questionable red sauce on it. For years, there has been a time-​honored tradition of biking to downtown Wheaton’s Jack Straw and eating junk food.
However, if you’re an adult, I would recommend taking a pass. This is the food equivalent of watching a «great» 80’s or 90’s movie with an adult’s discerning eye. You might go all-​in and buy The Karate Kid trilogy DVD box set on a whim, but then you’re stuck owning The Karate Kid trilogy DVD box set. Some things are best left in the past.

Delicious everything! This place is my absolute favorite, a true staple to Wheaton. The burgers are always juicy and full of flavor. The pizza by the slice is the perfect quick lunch item!
The outdoor seating is very sweet! A classic hometown feel. I love spending a nice summertime lunch with friends at the picnic tables.
I’ve been coming here for many years and it never disappoints, try it out! With all the chain restaurants out there, it’s refreshing to find a restaurant that stays true to it’s own unique style! And you gotta love the Grateful Dead collage in the lobby!
Oh! Don’t forget to get fries — my absolute favorite! Especially with that cheese sauce, mmmmmmm!

I feel like I ordered to wrong things because these reviews all sound promising and delicious — super thin crust better than Manhattan?! Awesome fries?! Oops. I had none of that.
I was craving crap food after a weekend of unspeakable gluttony, and grubhub was winding down to where your options are like The Barrel of Dust and We Serve Roaches, Inc. The reviews on GH and Unilocal for Jack Straw were decent enough so I ordered — 6 teriyaki wings, 6 BBQ wings, and a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Hey lay off me, I was starving (in my Chris Farley voice).
The food arrived promptly and smelled delicious. The wings are breaded and fried (I don’t love breaded wings) and really tiny, and the sauces were in the box with my sandwich, so I thought they’d forgotten my sauce until I was done trying to eat them. The sauces were ehhhh — BBQ was great, teriyaki was like a vat o’ molasses. The Philly cheesesteak was ok, but greasy and messy and not authentic at all (peppers and mushrooms?). You know what Naperville needs is a GREAT Philly cheesesteak place, now that I think about it. Every time I’m in the city I force my unfortunate and cooler-​than-​me friends to get Philly’s Best for dinner because it is incomparably delicious, but we don’t have anything remotely close here, do we? Why don’t we? DONT SUBURBANITES DESERVE CHEEZ-​WIZ AND JOY JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE?! Oooh ok I digress. The sandwich was whatever.
In sum, I’ll try them again, I think. They deliver to my house and show potential. Next time I’ll get pizza like I should have this time, and I’ll hopefully update my review in a positive way!

Call ahead! Waiting in that tight space blows…
They provide some picnic tables outside and that’s enough on nice days. Otherwise take your food elsewhere and DON’T EVEN THINK about asking to use the bathroom.
They have a drive through if you call ahead (do that, I like them so much better now. customer service and friendliness are not their strong suit)
The food is really good. Sandwiches and pizza are the name of the game.
I’m all about their french fries… seriously, their fries are up their with Bono’s in Lisle. yes, they are that good.
They also make some freaking great cheeseburgers (other family members tell me the Philly Steak sandwiches are delicious too) I’m told that they get their meat from the Wheaton Meat Market, which is saying a lot for the quality. The burgers are juicy (greasy?) and on a big brioche like bun and I love them. There, I said it.
I’ve tried the deep dish pizza on the carousel (it’s ok) and ordered their crispy thin crust pizza (they have corn meal on the bottom) which has lead to some dissension within the house. Trevor and I really like this pizza, Lisa does not.
Trevor has moved out and no longer has a vote… so…
I really love their cheeseburgers (sometimes I get a double, oh yeah… Baby!) and fries.

I like their pizza, and I used to love their hot dogs (the Mexicali was my favorite). While running errands today in the area, I decided to grab one.
What. the hell-​o. happened!!! According to their website, the Mexicali is supposed to have hot sauce, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion (jalapenos on request). My hot dog had two drops of hot sauce, no cheese, very little onion, and too much lettuce I was blessed with two large tomato wedges, which I felt that one would have sufficed. The lettuce wasn’t shredded; it was big leaves that I had to pick off because it was such a hassle to eat. Upon ordering, the employee didn’t ask if I wanted everything on it, so I forgot about the jalapenos, but I most certainly would have liked them on the hot dog!
I paid $ 6.09 with tax for the dog and a small fries. The fries were decent as I remember them being, but I had a lot of over-​cooked/​burnt ones. Very disappointing.
Sad to say, I probably won’t be going back here again. It’s a shame, because this place used to be a favorite of mine.
