I returned to Kriya Yoga studio after being away for almost five years. Although it is in a new physical home(which is definitely an upgrade), I felt like I had come home. As soon as the class began, and Michael shared his spiritual insights and guided us in practice, I knew I was home again. If you are looking for a true yoga home, not a trendy fitness studio, Kriya Yoga is your place.

So, I just found out from a friend and confirmed on their website that Kriya has actually moved to: 7016 W. 38th Ave(at Reed Street) Wheatridge, CO80033 Classes started March 21. It looks like the new schedule is very abbreviated and that Michael(owner) is teaching all of the classes.

This review is based upon Nathan’s Ashtanga class. Kriya is one of the few studios I’ve found in Denver that offer an unadulterated Ashtanga class. The studio is definitely different from studios like Corepower Yoga. There are no mirrors(thank god), showers or yoga gear for sale. It’s just a simple, quiet room with free mats to borrow. I enjoyed the class and thought Nathan was a great instructor. Class started and ended ontime which I really appreciated. While I’m not into the spiritual side of yoga so much, I liked the lack of discussion about my core muscles or burning calories or losing weight. While they don’t offer a monthly membership, punchcard rates are about $ 10 per class. I’m willing to pay that to get a real Ashtanga class. Make sure to bring cash! They don’t take cards.

As a first time yoga student, I explored several websites for local yoga centers in the Highlands. I came across Kriya Yoga Center and was impressed by the comprehensive classes. What drew me in was the 4 intro classes for $ 50. Perhaps because I signed up for classes online and avoided what the previous poster described as the owner having poor customer service skills, I’ve never had a problem at Kriya Yoga. In fact, I’ve enjoyed every class that I’ve attended. Prices appear to be competitive to other yoga centers, although there are no free trials, which is a bummer. However, you can attend your first class for $ 7(I believe) by printing out a coupon online. I would recommend Kriya Yoga Center for beginners because students and teachers are friendly and inviting.

Couple of things: 1. No free trial classes– kind of commonplace in the fitness world. 2. Owner doesn’t have customer service skills. Too bad, because I live around the corner and was set to join with another person for Ashtanga(not found in every Yoga studio). I would have paid for my first class with no problem, but after my interaction with the owner, I decided to keep looking for a place that appreciates new business.
