I believe all the review with 5 starts are from the owner. They basically create an account and comment on his own restaurant. Please check the evident, because majority of the 5 starts review only post one comment so far. What a JOKE!

Don’t want to admit this, but I was lured by Yuan Asian Bistro’s «40% off Sushi» banner. The deal looked so good until I walked in and realized that I WASTHEONLYPERSONINTHERESTAURANT! Given that I came at an off peak time, I wondered why I was the only customer. The waiter immediately sat me down and hands me a menu addendum showing the sushi that was discounted. FYI: Not all the sushi is discounted; only selected rolls. Thus, that was why I was the only customer. From the cheap menu, I ordered the Pink Lady Fusion Roll(see photo), which is eel, avocado, mango spicy tuna crunch wrapped with pink soy paper. I only picked it out because I never had pink sushi before. The regularly-priced $ 13 roll cost my $ 7.80. Don’t be alarmed by the resemblance to «pink slime», it was really good and I finished it quickly. I wish I ordered more… lol! The biggest problem of Yuan is the ambience. Rather than playing traditional Asian music, they play American Top 40 radio, but that is a problem with ethnic restaurants in general. The space is big and empty and cold. It wouldn’t hurt if they relocated to a smaller venue.

Awful. The hibachi was very quiet and boring. the food was ok. we went for happy hour one time, our check was double what we expected, and the waitress seemed surprised that we wanted the happy hours prices. went twice, never to return too bad. pretty inside and great location

…the server insisted upon knowing our names and entertained us with numerous magic tricks… this and an atmosphere of an old abandoned rave factory complemented by a back lite enormous buddha AND sushi rolls better than anything else in the Hartford area… what’s not to love! It was Outta Control!

The only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars is because of the performance, otherwise, I would have given it one star. My Uncle comes here often and wanted to do a huge family dinner. So more than a month in advance he told them he wanted to reserve enough stations for 30+ people. When we arrived(we arrived ONTIME by the way), there was a couple seated at one of the tables. So it was pretty awkward when our huge family sat next to them. We occupied four hibachi tables and only two waiters came. So those on one side(my side fortunately) got to eat first, while my poor family members opposite us had to wait ONEHOUR for their chefs to cook for them. Needless to say service was horrible. Don’t order any cocktails unless it’s on the menu because they don’t understand you. One of my Uncles ordered a Johnny Walker on the rocks — took them 30 minutes to bring it. I asked for a margarita — it tasted like vodka and cranberry, and it took so long I forgot I ordered it. Of course with 30+ people they screwed up the checks, but after the horrible service I wasn’t surprised. When I read other reviews about how it is «set back from the road», I didn’t understand because I expected to go over the river and through the woods to find this place. It has a parking lot in the front — if that is what being set back from the road means I’m confused. o_O If you compared this to Benihana, Yuan gets a gold medal for performance and Benihana gets the gold medal for the food. Since I live in NYC and was only visiting for this family holiday meal, I wouldn’t return to this place again.

We have eaten here, and for 7:00 on a weeknight a good Japanese restaurant shouldn’t be this empty(only 10 people — and 6 of those where at one of the Teppanyaki tables). Service is slow. Sushi is meh — so-so. Portions are modest. Prices are high. I guess they figure people will pay just for the modern décor — but ambiance is about third or fourth on MY list. There’s a better Japanese restaurant in Avon with great décor, much better sushi with generous portions and great and very friendly service. We go there when we are willing to spend the same amount for dinner as this place charges because there we truly get a great experience(which means we are getting our money’s worth). We can’t say that about Yuan Asian Bistro.

This place is kind of set back from the main road as others have pointed out. It is a very big, nice looking place inside. I went on a Wednesday night and it was so empty though. It was a Wednesday and it was an hour before they closed, but still… you usually still get some people lingering or just finishing up their dinners at that time. Anyway, I went there and ordered some sushi for pickup. Very expensive for what I got. I have no idea why. Their eat in specials seem great. They have all sorts of sushi specials if you stay and eat and even party packages for large groups. Those sound great, but the take out was not worth it. Maybe I’ll change my review if I eat there and have a better experience, but if you’re looking for something fast to bring home… skip it.

I had a veggie Hibachi ;) The flavors were well blended and the staff here are so warm n welcoming that makes the food more tasty now :) The Hibachi Chef was so cool and entertained us so well. He drew all our attention and made it more fun filled… N yeah they do have discounts which makes you feel happy coz the price what u pay is really worth it!!! Unfortunately, I have to agree with these other reviews, which I should have read earlier! …I saw the website which looks beautiful… and the menu looks great… so thought we’d try it… inside is spacious, clean and beautiful… though I would have liked to hear some asian music playing instead of a what sounded like a radio… no other customers were there at first in mid afternoon, but we’ve had that happen in other places so maybe this was not the red flag… thought about having hibachi, changed mind to other menu… ordered noodle/shrimp, appetizer, salad, soup… was just ok, not great… boyfriend ordered their grilled«filet mignon»… I’m highlighting cause this was no where near a filet mignon… although ordered medium rare, it came well done, then when sent back a new version came back raw three more times, an end piece that was borderline raw was chewy, and the potatoes, vegetable and rice were cold … by that time we had lost our appetites and had remaining food packed up and left… the one nice thing was that the presentation of entrée food plates was beautiful, otherwise the rest was not favorably distinguished in any way… soft drinks were refilled in the same glasses, not a fresh glass or straw, server plates were not handled well, and salad was presented in a tiny bowl, with a topping of dressing not mixed in, tasted okay but presentation was unusual… air conditioning was so low, it was warm… another couple that came in after us, packed up shortly after arriving as well… it’s a shame, because there is potential there with the restaurant layout for a thriving business and the staff seems friendly and soft spoken… but the food preparation and manner of service is too lacking at this time…

Perhaps it’s not the SINGLE best sushi place on the planet, but my girlfriend and I really have no idea what some of these other reviewers are talking about… We sat at the sushi bar. The staff was as friendly as could be expected for a foreign-culture restaurant, the sushi-maker was very nice(gave us a free appetizer), and above all, the sushi was EXCELLENT. They had a wide selection of unique roll specials, very fresh fish, and wonderful presentation of the sushi dishes to boot. I will say that the restaurant is a little«too big for it’s own good,» so to speak. Considering that this is a standalone restaurant on the Berlin Turnpike, not in a downtown area, a smaller venue would have boosted the ambience factor. Go on a Friday or Saturday night, you probably won’t have to wait, and you’ll have a good meal… Ichiro Hibachi in West Hartford is probably better, but if you want to pay more and wait longer, the choice is yours :).

Well I really wanted to find the other reviewers wrong, but it didn’t happen. We went Saterday evening. I ordered a california roll and teriaki steak, hubby ordered teriaki shrimp. First off, the salad was nasty iceberg lettece in a pudding dish. It was okay, but did not live up to our standard at other sushi places. Ditto for the miso soup which was just okay but had a funny after taste. The avacado in the sushi was over ripe and therefore had a mushy feel in my mouth. My husbands eel roll was the same mushiness. Husband’s shrimp looked great and also tasted okay, was generous but lacked flavor except for a sweet teriacki sauce drizzled over the top. My steak was generous. However it was a far inferior cut of beef that I have ever had at a Japanese restaurant. Not only was it extremely tough because of the cheap cut, it was cold cold cold and was not even marinated but covered in a goopy sweet sauce after grilling. I didn’t want to complain, so I ate it. Half way thru the restaurant manager came by to ask how our dinners were, so I told her it was delivered cold. She was very apolegetic but made no effert to make it right or offer us something else. We will not return here as we felt they did not care about our dining experience and made no effort at all. I predict they will be out of business soon if they don’t smarten up.

My boyfriend and I went to Yuan Asian Bistro Friday evening on a whim. It has a fairly large parking lot and is set back a little bit from the road. It is large on the inside, although it almost seemed a little too empty. One side is dedicated to at least 4 hibachi grills, while the other has fairly large booths to sit at for everything else on their menu. The staff was friendly and approachable this evening(compared to the other review that this restaurant received). However, the presentation aspect of the food was what became its downfall for me. I ordered the Tri-Color Sashimi. It was literally just 9 pieces of sashimi in an elaborately decorated bowl, complete with palm fronds, straw, and a martini glass of shaved ice under which flashed red, green, and blue lights before my eyes. The presentation was intriguing at first, but became annoying to me. I have gotten migraines before from flashing lights, and what started as an artsy presentation turned into a desperate search to stop the flashing before I could even enjoy my meal. I asked the water boy how to stop it, and he said there might be a button at the bottom of the martini glass, but only after my boyfriend stuck his fingers in the bottom of the shaved ice, did we realize it was because there was a LED ice cube within the shaved ice inside the martini glass. My boyfriend ordered two kinds of sushi rolls and got more food(which cost less) than my nine pieces of elaborately presented sashimi. Another oddity was when we initially received our sushi/sashimi. We only had one plate to eat our meal on(which was the plate that our chopsticks/napkin were presented on at our table), and received no additional small well to mix our soy sauce/wasabi. I recommend getting your sushi elsewhere unless you show up on Sunday for 40% off Sushi, or a Monday/Tuesday for 40% off Hibachi.

Hands down this was the worst experience we’ve had in a sushi restaurant in Connecticut. The sushi itself was fine. The place is new and nearby where we work, so we decided to try it for lunch one day. It really seems like it has a lot of potential. The day we went it was empty except for us. The service was just dreadful though. Our waitress was obviously having a bad day. She wouldn’t talk to us, wouldn’t even make eye contact. But she paced back and forth in front of us while we were eating like she was a prison guard. She would eye us with what looked like contempt but never once offered to bring us a refill on our tea or water. When I finally asked, I swear she sort of grunted under her breath. Then she would come over to our table and take things away without even asking if we were finished. One time my husband definitely wasn’t finished! We had to laugh as we left because the whole experience was just so bizarre. We kind of want to go back again to get a better perspective, but we had such a disappointing time I’m not sure we can handle it.
