Fresh produce. Deals on food! Wonky layout. This store should be noted for its deals on food! Many items, including a lot of the fresh produce, is significantly discounted compared to Stop N Shop down the road. This store is conveniently located off the Silas Deane, although I wouldn’t call the parking lot convenient. It was hard to get a spot, and didn’t follow a logical traffic pattern from what I could tell. The layout of the store interior was equally wonky. It seems like they could benefit from a few extra square feet. Also, similar to Aldi — make sure to bring a quarter for the shopping cart as well as your own grocery bags! If you’re not so worried about the ambiance of your grocer and you care about the bottom line, this store is probably for you!

It’s a grocery store what more is there to say, they have fresh fruit so I like that. Not big on the lay out but hey, they have good prices on some of the food I buy versus the competition.

Under new ownership. This grocery has seen a total turn around. New larger coolers, expanded building and cleaner environment. You can save lots of money shopping here. The only drawback is no meat market or deli meats other than prepackaged.

I love Price-Rite…There I said it. You see, Price Rites get no love and are mostly shunned by my friends… I actually get surprised looks when I tell them I purchased some oddball ingredient usually for an exotic dish. Price Rite is a chain that is mainly situated in lower income neighborhoods and caters to the folks who live in those neighborhoods… That may turn off some people, or even scare some people away… If you’re willing to open your mind and let down your guard a bit, you will find you can stretch your dollar in ways you did not think possible and find food items for ethnic dishes you did not know you wanted to create. This review is going to cater to my local Price Rite in Wethersfield, but there are a few others sprinkled throughout the Hartford area. First off, you will find Price Rite on the very north end of the Silas Deane Highway. Right on the Hartford border, it serves as the anchor store of a very old looking strip mall. This probably turns a lot of folks away right out of the gate. Soldier on, park your car, and remember to pull out a quarter before you head in. Why? Because, Price Rite would like to save money by not needing to hire cart boys to clean up the lot and makes you pay a quarter deposit to take a shopping cart from the staging area. Also, if you are a greenie who believes in saving the environment, Price Rite is the place for you. Remember to bring in your multi-use bags as Price-Rite will charge you for each plastic bag you need(or you can try, like me, to just juggle all of your purchases in your arms and go 100% bagless). It’s all about the cutting of the corners… That being said, they don’t cut corners on cleanliness from what I can tell… It’s not the prettiest store, but they run a clean one… This Price Rite will immediately dump you into the produce section, which you must walk through to get to the other sections. Given the pricing, I’m sure we’re not talking organic here, but if you’re OK with a little washing of your fruits and veggies prior to consumption, you will find pricing that meets or beats the sale prices you see from most other grocers. Given the clientele being catered to, you will find many Latin American options that you will not find elsewhere. I love a fresh tomatillo based green salsa and this is the first place that sold these as a regular food item. You will find herbs here at rock bottom prices here as well. The produce here tends to be heartier in my opinion and have had less issue with spoilage. From the produce section, you will move into your more standard supermarket configuration. The signage for each row is vague /non-existent, but it’s best to wind your way around to discover some oddities that you may not find at other stores. Some personal favorites /tips: Badia spices are much cheaper and same /better quality, Friendly’s Ice Cream, Linguica /Chorizo locally made and chopped up for my chili or omelets, and Latin American specific ingredients in general are in abundance here. There is some focus on store brands and some name brand stuff in bulk containers. If you know your grocery prices, I think you will be surprised at the values you can find here. That being said… Your Whole Foods focused consumer is probably going to want to stay away… You wonder at times how the pricing gets so low here and I’ve shied away from certain meats like chicken breasts and ground beef… It may be perfectly fine, but I’ve seen /read enough to know how livestock are treated to get prices so cheap(and if this bothers you, you should probably stay away from fast food in general). No organics as previously mentioned and you’re not going to get artisan crafted anything for your dollar here. But if price is your game, you honestly can’t beat Price-Rite…and while the clientele may not be the richest folks in terms of personal wealth… they are some of the nicest and have never had an issue inside or outside the store.
