I was looking to grab a quick dinner when I stumbled upon this tiny pupusa stand at the Westwood Farmers Market. The owner’s name is Manuel and the menu includes seven types of pupusas($ 3 each or two for $ 5) and a limited selection of tacos($ 2 each). Food is made fresh on the spot and after a quick chat with Manuel I decided to order the Jalapeño, Beans, and Cheese Pupusa and a Shrimp and Vegetable Pupusa to bring back to my office. The texture of the pupusa was a bit rough with the fillings unevenly distributed. The Jalapeño, Beans, and Cheese Pupusa was spicy with large pieces of peppers tucked into layers of beans and cheese here and there. The Shrimp and Vegetable Pupusa came with shrimps that were smaller than expected, and the overall taste wasn’t as refined as the ones I tried at Balompie Café. The pupusas came with generous portions of fresh curtido and salsa, and my plate was wrapped really well for me to carry to my office without a problem. Overall, I thought the price was a bit steep for the quality of these pupusas but they were still relatively cheaper than most restaurants in Westwood. This pupusa stand offers a great deal of convenience and friendly service but the fillings for the pupusas could use some work. I’d be interested in returning to try the other pupusas on the menu. Those interested can find them every Wednesday in Westwood Village. Passable but not stellar, 3 stars for the overall experience.
