About 10 years ago, I helped my dad move on short notice from 300 miles away to Weston. We arrived with a truck of stuff in the middle of the night, in the dead of February, in cold, pouring rain. How fortunate we were that Vickie Kelley of Camelot Real Estate was there to meet us with the key. [/sarcasm] She then informed us that the agreed upon monthly rent was«really too good a deal» and«unfair» to her«as a real estate professional and in such a prestigious neighborhood» and that she had convinced the absentee landladies down in Florida to raise the rate by several hundred dollars, sometime between our leaving Maryland and pulling into the driveway in Weston.(After a rental agreement had been signed, of course.) Being a lawyer, my dad told her no effing way. But she proceeded to *scream* and get in our way, as we tried to move belongings inside and out of the rain. Eventually we got sick of her, and very nearly had to physically remove her from the house. Arms outstretched – the way one might herd geese off a lawn – we managed to back her out the front door. She stood out there in the dark for a bit, shrieking and flapping her arms and getting wet, before the li’l fire-breather trotted her way back to Camelot.(My dad moved out the next year and bought a much nicer house in Weston, no thanks to Ms. Kelley. Meah.) I am of the mind that all but a very few of the most talented and dedicated real estate agents add more than merely a tax on property transactions, and the shrill Ms. Kelley only perpetuated that perception. It’s a good thing our family already had several decades of familiarity with the area, or the welcome we received would’ve given us some very wrong ideas about what passes for decency in Weston.

I contacted a listing agent for more information on one of their listed properties with a few questions. She replied that the property was already«deep into negotiations» and offered no answers or alternative properties. A month later the property was still listed as being shown. I contacted Camelot through their website asking again. I received no response. Two weeks later I wrote directly to their business office manager. Again, no response. Six months later the house remains unsold and is up for auction. Their loss as I would probably have paid more than what the house will eventually go for.
