If you’re looking for any music or related random gifts, check out Record Utopia in Westmont. Dan is a great guy and knows more about music than is reasonable for any one person to know. Great deals all around, one of my favorite hang-outs.

Dan is a great guy. He’s friendly and approachable with any question you can think of. The store may not be the mist up kept but it’s an old records store. Some of the prices are modest being around 8 $ an some are as high for vinyls as 60 $. If you like vinyl I would say to check out the store. Came in and picked up a whole studio sound system with a record player and a record for a very very reasonable price. Some of the prices on other items may seem high but the owners have to make a living. Props to being open for so long and sticking to it. Unique and interesting store. Would love to come back again when brought in.

They carry a rather impressive(random) selection of new vinyl, from the new Zeppelin reissues to titles like Lana Del Ray, Belle & Sebastian to the Brian Eno reissues. Of course they have a large selection of used vinyl with an emphasis on the classic rock titles. But it’s all here too, blues, jazz, folk, soundtracks, etc. Ok, so that all very cool, but the prices here are way high and completely out of proportion from what u should be paying for vinyl(even now a days). A quick look around and it becomes obvious that this shop operates on another universe where people don’t mind(or don’t know any better) paying 2x or 3x the value of a record. I mean $ 15 for a used Sinead O’Connor album? Across the board everything was tagged at ridiculously inflated prices. Most likely the customer base here is older with $$, don’t like to shop around or online and don’t mind paying the big cash. The vibe at the shop falls under the category of an unkept garage or basement with zero cool record shop appeal. For my criteria this shops fails miserably as a destination shop for cool finds or even a cool shop to frequent. Not worthy of a return visit.

Not your average suburban record store. Great selection and prices. Not just music either. Strike up a conversation with the owner, or just browse because you won’t be pressured or questioned on your musical taste. Go west, you’ll be glad you did!
