Phlebotomy Training Specialists

I’m currently in my last week of training and honestly I’m glad I didn’t take it anywhere else! I am already feeling super confident for the final exam and the prep for it has been great. The instructor has been brilliant and the material is spot on. Would absolutely recommend to my friends and family!

Absolutely love the school and my class!!! They made everything so easy. The price is reasonable, paying the tuition, and the customer service is great :) They give you different schedules to pick from, keep you updated on your class and help set you up with an externship! The teacher is experienced and they are more than prepared to help the students. They help you from start to finish. Overall the experience has been nothing short of amazing and I’m so glad this was my pick!

I recommend that you go to another school. Good luck trying to find a job after you complete the program. I highly recommend taking this course at uc irvine because you will have an advantage of having gone to a good school with a good reputation when looking for work. The program may be longer, but you will find that it better prepares you and employers look for what kind of training you receieved. Also you have a better chance of getting hired at uc irvine medical center. Good luck

Crystal Martinez, is a wonderful instructor who works very hard in this field for about 20 years. She’s very personable, knowledgeable and PROFESSIONAL. I took the Phlebotomy National Certification exam this past Tuesday, haven’t received my results yet but am confident that I passed with flying colors due to the incredible preparation I received attending her class. It’s only 10 days, 40 hours with an additional 40 hours of externship to complete California State License requirements. The reasonable price of tuition is well worth the network connections I have made. I’m very grateful to be starting a new career in this field and couldn’t be more thankful to Phlebotomy Training Specialists’ curriculum and Mrs. Martinez’s exceptional training.

My daughter is studying to receive her BSN RN. During winter break, January 2016, she took a CPT1 certification course with Phlebotomy Training Specialists in Westminster. I spent two days there as her practice subject where she completed 8 – 10 successful withdrawals each time (yes, i deserve Mom of the year award). So far, we are happy with the training program and hope the 40 hours of externship goes well. I wish there was a way to get more test subjects because practice practice practice makes perfect.

This needs to be known. Potential phlebotomy students, beware. I attended this course in February/​March of 2014, and while the quality of the in-​class education is good, the cost or the program is fair, and the location is clean and accessible, the pros of attending this course end there.
When it came time for me to complete my externship hours, I was sent to a clinic in east Los Angeles, despite my living in Laguna Niguel, and being assured upon initial enrollment in the class that there were many available externship sites in my area. When it came time to complete my hours, this was obviously not the case, and I was told that unless I could *secure my own externship site*, I would be forced to commute 2.5 hours both ways to east LA to a clinic that was absolutely NOT up to standard.
When I arrived on the first day, I was not expected, nor welcomed. The clinic was a Spanish-​speaking clinic, and the language barrier became an instant problem. I was told to wait in their crowded waiting room for almost 2 hours (which did not count as externship hours), as the site manager was unreachable, as was my instructor, Tania, at Phlebotomy Training Specialists. When I finally was able to go back and start practicing my skill, I was made to stand in the corner of a room for 8 hours, listening to the two technicians gossip about co-​workers, patients — in violation of HIPAA regulations -, and me (I speak enough Spanish to understand when I’m being ridiculed). They ate in the blood drawing chairs, spilled their drinks all on the equipment counters, and threw bloody trash on the ground. These are all CLIA violations, and would likely be taken very seriously by any sane person not only out for themselves.
When I was actually allowed to draw blood (a whopping two times), I was asked to do things that I was absolutely not comfortable with, morally, or based in what I been taught in class. They had me sticking newborn fingers with needles far too traumatic for little fingers, so much that 20 minutes later, the mothers were walking back to the clinic saying their infants were still bleeding. Well, no sh! t, sherlock! If you poke a baby with a SWORD it’s going to bleed. Of course, I was blamed for the repercussions of this idiotic practice, and after that, I was made to go back to my standing room only corner, and I did not perform any more venipunctures.
Needless to say, I was both astounded and alarmed by what I saw at the east LA clinic that day. I called my instructor that night, and told her (as is my RIGHT as a student) that I was absolutely NOT comfortable with completing my externship hours at that clinic, and that I was requesting that she place me in a new clinic that actually practices safe and conscientious phlebotomy.
My instructor flat-​out refused to accommodate me. In fact, she demonized and ridiculed me, both over the phone and in person, saying I knew full well what I was getting myself into by completing my hours at a such a clinic. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This woman has NO respect or concern for her students once they start sticking up for themselves. She told me time and time again that this was MY fault, and that she put way too much time and effort into securing that facility, and she was not willing to do it for me again. I would either have to find my own site (extremely difficult, if you’ve never had the pleasure), or I was S.O.L.
I left this program after months of attempting to negotiate with my instructor and searching for my own externship site to no avail. I was not reimbursed a single cent from Phlebotomy Surgical Specialists. My family was robbed multiple thousands of dollars out of carelessness and greed.
I have been dreading writing this review, because I know it sounds awful. But it is the absolute truth, and I can’t knowingly let other people walk into this woman’s same money trap without at least sharing my story.
Tl;dr — Please, AVOID Phlebotomy Training Specialists at all costs… go to Stanbridge or LBCC where they actually care about their students.

BEST PLACE EVER to learn phlebotomy. Profressional, knowledgeable, practical applications, and a LOT OF PRACTICE. Very clean facility also.
My instructor, Crystal Martinez, is exceptional. She not only has 17 years of phlebotomy experience, she still works in the field when not teaching. She is a superb teacher and provides applicable scenarios to the work place — particularly for difficult and unusual situations. She is extremely approachable and has a wonderful sense of humor. She makes learning fun, exciting, and enjoyable.
I am taking my state board exam tomorrow and have complete confidence that I will pass based on their outstanding educational practices and protocols.
Choosing PTS is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you are researching schools, look no further. The price is right and the instruction is OUTSTANDING.

Save yourself the headache and find a different school. I wouldn’t recommend this school at all! I started my class in December and am still waiting for my state certificate because they cant send in the correct documents for the state to release my certificate! I even uploaded the documents on my part and I still can’t get it yet. Also, communication with this school is impossible! Trust me, once you have paid their fee, they will no longer help you! Their phone line is never avaliable and texting takes days to get a response! They mention that they will help with job placement? Yeah right! They just tell you to go on Craig’s list! I sent in my resume two months ago to get it reviewed, and I am still waiting for a response… my classmates still havent gotten placed for an externship yet either! Luckily, I found my own clinic otherwise I would be in the same boat as her. Dont get me wrong, the instructors are great, but the administration is what is lacking. So until they become more organized, I would recommend you find another school.

This was a great class. I needed help with the tuition upon commencement and they were willing to work with me. I can’t imagine this is the norm but if it is, it really helped. The instructors were great. I felt confident in my ability to draw when I finished. I was surprised at how many draws I got over the course as many as I wanted. All I had to do was bring in willing participants? Really pleased with my experience.

Curriculum is exceptional. The instructors knowledgeable and nice. The certification is less expensive than others offered in the area. Able to get certification in 10 class periods. More draws than I could possibly want.

So I’ve been a hair stylist for 12 years now I love what I do. However times are a bit ruff with my health insurance so I thought this was perfect for me. I could work at the hospital part time and still do what I truly love, hair. Don’t get me wrong drawing blood is also great and fun. The school was pretty easy you just need to STUDY! The first day u had no idea what the teacher was talking about lol but within the next couple of days it all made since. Ms. Watson is the teacher she is very smart supper tuff but an amazing teacher, she has a soft side too lol. So I passed my test did my hours at the clinic and now it’s a waiting game to receive my license so I can start applying! Wish me luck

I’ve been looking into phlebotomy schools since deciding upon a career change. There was one about 5 minutes from my house but upon checking this school out I opted to attend this one.
From the moment I walked in the door, I liked the school. I thought the receptionist was very informative and nice, not pushy about the deposit, the cost of the school or to get me to sign up. Later, I found out the receptionist was actually the instructor. This school opened their doors in November 2013, so everything is still new.
My class was very small and Tania, the instructor, is very good at explaining and teaching… so good in fact, that after a few weeks you are well prepared to take the National exam. It is a very fast paced class so you do need to pay attention and do your homework — you start drawing blood on the second day, like the other review stated.
Class is very short — only 10 days! Then you take your National exam. After passing, you get assigned your externship and receive your phlebotomy certificate. After that, you have to get your California state license and take a CPR course before you can get a job. Tania also has a CPR instructor teach the CPR course so you can get it completed quickly.
Even though class is only 10 days, it does take a lot of time to complete the requirements for the license. I took the course mid-​March and just got my email confirmation for my CA certification (in July).
I would highly recommend this school.

I was very skeptical about finding a good phlebotomy school and did a LOT of research. Everything I found about this school was only positive. Still skeptical, I attended the school with a friend. We really enjoyed the class and the instructor, Tonia, she is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff ! We were drawing blood on each other the second day with confidence. I found out today that I passed my National Phlebotomy Exam and will be placed into an internship next week. Tonia prepared us very well for the test. I am no longer a skeptic and recommend this school to every skeptic out there !
