With Chinese New Year coming up, I stopped into Minh Phung to order banh tet to give as gifts. They’re famous for the delicious traditional rice sticks. The most popular one is the banh tet 3 mau, which has two different flavored rices. I recommend frying the slices. My favorite one is the banh tet chuoi(banana). It’s so sweet and delicious! They’re super busy this time of year, so order ahead. Aside from those, I also get banh hoi and banh canh here. It’s made fresh in house apparently. If you come at the right time, the noodles are all warm. I’ve seen their product in supermarkets too. The store itself is on an industrial looking street surrounded by auto body shops and businesses. It’s also right next to Asian garden mall so it gets pretty packed.

You can count on good Banh Chung and Banh Tet(Vietnamese sticky rice cake) here! There are vegetarian options too! Love! We come here every year to order these cakes for Lunar New Year! The staff here is so nice and helpful! You get a homey vine here! Tips: you can get free calendars(with large orders?)

If you’re in the Vietnamese area of the OC you owe it to yourself to find some of the little hidden places. I dont see Banh Hoi on enough menus and definitely not enough done well. So go straight to a specialty place like Minh Phung, eat to your hearts delight and then maybe regret it a little later! Who knew some fat on rice noodles could be so good

Banh hoi = spongy Vietnamese vermicelli rice noodles woven into net-like squares. Vietnamese food is filled with different types of noodles. I love finding specialty places for each of them and this place makes them fresh and cheap. My dad sent me down this alley next to Phuoc Loc Tho(Asian Garden Mall) because we were celebrating my nephew’s one month and banh hoi is the perfect accompaniment to a whole roasted pig! If you are adventurous, they are located across the street from a place that specializes in hot vit lon(aka balut or fertilized duck egg). They also sell banh tet(the new year cake made with sticky rice and stuffed with meat, wrapped in banana leaf in log form) but my dad gets it from some lady in a van in SGV.

I totally agree with CL, I have tried all of Banh Hoi there is in O.C., and Minh Phung’s is the best! My mom buys Banh canh there all the time to make«Banh canh Tom cua», OMG, it’s delicious.

Banh hoi here is the best I’ve ever had! It’s great because they make it fresh everyday. But I come here sometimes for the small banh tet also. The banana banh tet is so amazingly sweet. It always hits the spot.
