Wow, this place is a gem! I grew up in Hawaii, so I like fresh seafood and living in Colorado this is something hard to find. We went to this place several times and everytime we go the food is outstanding, delicious and fresh! Simply put, if you are looking for some fantastic seafood, go here.

My husband and I had tried on a few different occasions to dine in however, the wait for a table was way longer then we were willing to wait and there’s really no place to sit while you wait. That being said we decided to think smart one night and call ahead for reservations. We were told they do not offer option to reserve a table but could«put our name on a list» and a table would be ready in approx. 30min, we arrived 25 minutes later and were seated after 15 minutes of waiting. The seating is pretty crowded since the space within the restaurant is fairly small. Overall, the server was friendly and the food was good. I feel a $$ rating is inaccurate on price listed(maybe for a lunch menu it would be appropriate).

This is not a $$ restaurant. I don’t know how that gets determined. It is pricey if you order the nice entrees but it is fabulous!!! We had a Birthday there and it was truly amazing!!! The cocktails and wine flowed and we had a large party so many dishes were tried and no one was disappointed. The only downside was slow service and her bad memory. For the record this was a year ago on May 28th — I don’t want any current employee getting accused!(There was disappointment that there was no mac and cheese, lol — Mac and Lu are people of course but the hope still existed)

Delicious! First time here and it was great. Server was knowledgeable and really explained everything very well. She was great. Got the oysters to start and they tasted like they were straight from the ocean. The mussels the same absolutely delicious. The hogfish which is there pride is top notch and melted in my mouth. Definitely will be back great place to get the freshest seafood possible.

We’re(husband, son, and myself) new to Broomfield and are trying a bunch of different restaurants. We shared a conch appetizer. Our son only had 1 bite and my husband and I each had 1. They were almost burnt/over cooked/oil was too old but we aren’t much on complaining so we didn’t say anything. My husband had sesame tuna and our son and I each had fish and chips. The fish was also burnt/over cooked/old oil cooked. Both the fish and chips each left a lingering after taste. We shared a bread pudding… also burnt/over cooked/old oil. Our son was ill within an hour of leaving. My husband and I have been ill today and our son isn’t 100%. This is the first restaurant, since our move to Broomfield, that we haven’t loved.

A quick blurb about how good this place is. Some of the best seafood you can get but 1000’s of miles from the ocean. So many good options and experence here. This is the diamond in the rough in Broomfield.

This is a tricky review, as others have said the place is clean & service is fair, a bit slow. As others have noted the sizes are small for the price, I assume flying fresh fish into Colorado is expensive! Fish & Chips: gets 2 stars, there were 3 small pieces that were overcooked/burnt or had been sitting for a while. I couldn’t make out what type of fish was used, very chrwy/tough. Don’t bother with the elephant ear potato chips, they are nothing special & ours were burnt. Grouper po’boy: 3 stars, good size & tasty with a kick, it’s messy, they were out of catfish Fried shrimp appetizer: 4 stars, light batter good Key lime cup: best thing we had, 4 stars, not sure it’s worth the price but it was good! Creamy & tart served in a cocktail glass

Really good seafood I just wasn’t expecting the price to be as high. It is decorated cute. It smells like fish as soon as you walk in due to them selling fresh fish. The clam chowder is definitely worth trying as well as the po-boys. I would rate it 5 stars if their prices matched the service(have to seat yourself) and the food amount and the way it is presented. Going there for lunch is definitely cheaper than dinner. I will definitely go back for lunch.

Awesome restaurant! Great food, especially the fritters & lobster mac & cheese. The wait staff was friendly & knowledgeable. Let us know what was coming in tomorrow & invited us back tomorrow for a crawfish boil. I will definitely be back!

Well it’s been a few weeks since I wrote my last Unilocal review. Considering this is my hundredth review, I wanted it to be special, so I had to wait until I ate at a restaurant that was worthy – and after dining at Big Mac and Little Lu’s seafood restaurant, I knew I had found the place. We got there at about 8PM without a reservation and had to wait about 20 minutes before being seated. It was absolutely worth the wait. Our waiter turned out to be the establishment’s manager, and oh man was he on point. I had a hard time deciding what to order from the delicious looking menu but the thing that stuck out the most was a linguine and clam dish that was unfortunately served in a creamy white sauce. Being lactose intolerant, the white sauce would’ve been a recipe for disaster, but guess what? When I asked the waiter if they could do it in red sauce, he said«we can whip you up a simple marinara, No problem!“and that’s exactly what they did OFFTHEMENU! The food came out shortly thereafter and my linguine and clams in red sauce was even more beautiful than pictured. They even threw in extra garlic bread that was perfectly crispy and savory, yet chewy in the middle. The marinara was anything but simple and was probably the most delicious marinara I’ve had at a non-designated Italian restaurant. Talk about comforting. So here’s my recommendation: order the linguine and clams with their specially whipped up marinara sauce that’s not on the menu. You will be the coolest kid in the restaurant. And thank you Big Mac and Little Lu’s for living up to all the hype. And a huge mahalo to Cliff and Marti for an unforgettable experience in Denver! I will definitely be back to both.

We loved tonight’s dinner here! Fresh fish and tons of options. I had a Lobster Roll and my husband had the grilled grouper sandwich. Both were flavorful and filling. Their chocolate lava cake was ooey, gooey and chocolatey! Cute little restaurant with a fish counter full of plenty of fish. You’ll want to get here early because they start going on a wait around 6pm.

It’s unfortunate when you order the wrong things at what is probably an otherwise good restaurant. To preface, the interior was inviting, the seafood on display looked fresh and of high quality and the service we received was great – very friendly and hospitable. We ate here for lunch, figuring on sharing an appetizer and a main dish. Frankly, it was the most expensive less-than-mediocre lunch we’ve had. The smoked fish dip consisted simply of glorified potato chips(in fairness, they were actually not bad as they were cooked fresh) and a 1/3-cup serving of dry-ish smoked salmon(?) All that… for $ 10. Writing this from home and having reviewed the menu just now, I see that it should’ve also included«capers, cucumbers and whole grain mustard.» Even if these accoutrements were served, I’d be hard pressed to say it’d be worth $ 10 based the quality of that smoked fish. The $ 24 lobster Mac and cheese was by far the biggest culinary disappointment I’ve experienced in quite some time(relative to the price paid). The macaroni was overcooked. The lobster was overcooked. The bacon was overcooked. The cheese was left shredded on top, probably for presentation; even after stirring it in, it was still rather soupy. And overall I found it to be just plain bland. Based on the majority of other reviews of this place, again I don’t doubt this is a quality establishment. Perhaps my review of these two specific dishes will prompt an improvement in quality to be on par with all the other dishes people have raved about.

I liked Big Mac’s & Little Lu’s a lot. After reading about the concept in the paper: Fisherman from the coast opens a seafood restaurant in Colorado where he ships in fresh fish daily and names it after his two daughters. However I wanted to love it and did not. First the hold back: the space is too small for the buzz, concept, and quality of the food, the fish market case was underwhelming, the soup was about 20 degrees too cold. The food was good though, even the soup, although a bit rich. The kids meal execution was awesome. The staff was friendly, attentive and patient. I will probably return to Big Mac’s & Little Lu’s, but I didn’t leave with a new favorite restaurant as I thought I would.

DH and I decided to have dinner here one Fri night and although it was cold as heck outside, the place still had a good deal of ppl inside. When we walked in we were asked if we had a reservation before being greeted. No was my reply. I didn’t think they needed one. Oh well. I was craving clam chowder and seeing the rave reviews, well, I thought they’d have a great bowl of it. I was wrong. The bowl was small, extremely salty and lacked the main ingredient — clams. I swear they must’ve been ground up and tossed in bc they were nowhere to be found. You also only get 2 small toasted bread slices. Our shrimp poboy was no better, but somewhere within the bread roll were fried shrimp. Overall, service was prompt, but the food was just okay.

This restaurant has been on my radar for a little while so when a friend suggested we come here, I was thrilled. I have to say right off that this was some of the fastest service I have had in a sit down restaurant in a while. That’s a benefit of seafood I suppose that it cooks quickly, but also the staff were on their game. For an app we got oysters(delicious, fresh and exactly what an oyster should be) and the conch fritters. The fritters tasted like hush puppies. Neither one of us got any chewy pieces of conch that give it the conch experience. Overall a disappointment and I would not get this again. For our mains, my friend ordered the seafood pasta which she was not a fan of at all. Personally I think that is a dish to be avoided in any restaurant when there are so many other delicious and unique offerings, especially in a restaurant like this. I went with the new mussel dish with chorizo. I felt that the seasoning missed the mark a bit and could have had a bit more oomph. I added a dash of hot sauce but that didn’t flavor it enough. What was amazing were the cajun fries on top of the dish. They were some of the best fries I have had in a long, long time. So good in fact that we ordered an additional side of them. And then to be total pigs we were curious about the whale fries so ordered a side of those too. They were huge slices of potato fried thin and crisp. We were stuffed but they were addictive and we ate almost all of those too. For dessert I took key lime pie home for the hubs and snuck a bite off it. It is very good key lime pie. Overall I would try this again but try new dishes with the exception of any potato dish.

A nice neighborhood seafood restaurant — if I lived here, I’d be a regular! Great low key ambience & great food. Two of us ordered the Paella which had the perfect seafood to rice ratio(can be seen in my photo) & another had the fish and chips. I didn’t sample the fish, I have to say the chips were wonderful — if only all chips were this well executed! We shared some sweets to end the meal. The key lime pie had an unusual parfait presentation. We almost didn’t finish it, but when we upended to get at the crust on the bottom, we had no problems polishing it off. So, my only recommendation for the key lime pie is to put the crust on top & throughout :)

You’ve got to look for this place as it is tucked in behind the Baker St Bar on the NE corner of 120th and Federal in Westminster. I think the sign only says Seafood Market on the outside and Big Mac and Little Lu’s on the menus. But I digress. Went searching for a place to buy great fish — I found it and now you can too. As Debbie C — the SFO lady said — it is seafood HEAVEN. We ate in the first time and I have never tasted better shrimp — as in scampi. The freshest! Next we bought snapper for 8 dinner guests — this happened to be yellow tail. Hub made a Vera Cruz sauce, yow! Fabulous. Then we went back a week later for more snapper — this time red snapper — again made the Vera Cruz sauce — even better. The place feels like a locals place with regulars recognized and acknowledged by the staff but we as newcomers felt just as welcomed and there were a few singles eating alone and one family. There’s a nice patio as well as seating for 50 or so inside. I’ll be a reg in this place.

Went in for dinner last night with my wife. We were both excited, being well seasoned veterans of Gulf Coast fish markets — Walt’s in Sarasota FL being our favorite. Also, I can and do eat a lot of hot to very spicy hot foods. So when I say something has a nice zing too it, it means a bit of tingle without the burn and sweat. The average person might find it a bit hot to hot. This is a Seat Yourself place, fairly open area design with an acoustic layout that makes it get a bit noisy. So if you are looking for that quaint romantic spot, save your hormones for somewhere else. Service 5 stars. Our server Marisa was at the table right after we sat down, she had our drinks to us fast and was ready for our appetizer order. She kept our tea filled and didn’t push us to ramble on out. Needless to say, she got a good tip. Food 3 – 4 stars. 8 pc shrimp cocktail $ 12. Nice sized shrimp and they actually got enough horseradish in the cocktail sauce that it had a good zing to it. Probably a bit spicy for a lot of the general public. Oysters(raw) — 4 stars, Wednesday special $ 1.50 ea. I did the 2 of each kind. They were all very fresh, no slimy, fishy taste. Problem was that it appeared the guy who opened them dug the tool into the meat on 3 of them and tore it. Not that big of a deal, I just like the meat being in one piece. The small ones had some grit in them. I had the Fish & Chips. 3.5 stars. The fish was good and had a nice taste. It was a bit over cooked though. Too dark of breaking. In fact, that seems to be one of the biggest complaints in other reviews. As you see below, my wife’s coconut shrimp was overlooked too. Coconut shrimp 3 stars. My wife said because it was over cooked, the shrimp was too firm and the coconut had no flavor. The shrimp was ok tasting. Sauces. 4.5 stars. Both of the ones in our meals had a nice flavor and zing to them. There just wasn’t enough…

I came here solely on Unilocal reviews and I love it! Let’s start with the service, we came in on a Saturday evening and they weren’t too busy but there was a 10min wait so they said and we waited against the back wall, after about 18mins I went to ask how much longer because I thought maybe they forgot about us, I’m assuming I asked the owner guy and he said we were next and seated us as soon as possible and got my kids some chips to eat while we waiting on food. Our waitress was good as well. Attentive and yet left us alone for the most part! FOOD: I had oysters which were good, I’ve had better and I’ve had worst. But these were pretty good. I ordered the surf and turf, and got scallops and a ribeye, my daughter got mac and cheese and my husband got a pound of king crab legs. Everything we had was cooked perfectly! The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the veggies on the side was good. My scallops were good and my husbands king crab legs was the best crab we’d ever had! I can’t wait to come back!

Sometimes the universe lines things up for you just perfect so you can really see the true wonder of things. That is the case for me and Big Mac. Just two nights prior to dining here we ate at Ocean Prime in downtown Denver. i.e. The most expensive seafood restaurant in Denver. We thought we had a superb meal for the bargain price of $ 120(with drinks). Enter. Little Lu. Two nights later we dine at Big M and Little L and realize THIS is what a superb seafood meal is and have the price $ 60(with drinks). My husband and I eloped in Key West two years ago. We had one of the best meals we’ve ever had at this place called Hideaway Café(bookmark it now and go if you’re in the area ever). We had a fish called hogfish which is pretty native to the Keys. So imagine my delight when searching for a Valentine’s dinner locale for my husband and I see a place in Denver has hogfish. Hellooooooooooo, wife points! The fish we had was absolutely flawless. Tasted like they had just caught it right out of the water. Seriously the best fish we have had since that meal two years ago at Hideaway café. The owner, Paul(who is gracious and absolutely charming by the way), flies in fresh fish daily from coasts around the nation. And you can tell! Fish is also available to just walk in and buy and prepare at home(like a market) which I think is is just the coolest too! This is definitely a down home, locally owned vibe place, which is surprising since it’s tucked into a strip mall with a bunch of chains closing in on it. Service was excellent, food was on point. We both commented that this restaurant will be our Cheers, our Central Perk, whatever your TV satire flavor. Out of bounds delicious, can’t wait to come back!
