Bally Total Fitness

Terrible Gym and even worse after Red Fitness ²⁴⁄₇ took over. Do not go there, too expensive, poor customer service, and next to impossible to cancel membership! AVIOD!

I came here about a month ago and Matt was super nice at the front desk, I think if anyone else had been working I probably would not have committed. He offered a free training session with someone the next day so I took him up on that offer. After being stood up, the manager, took me in his office for about a half hour and talked a whole bunch of shit. Basically he told me that I was fat, I have no idea what I’m doing and I need to be in the gym 6 days a week. After meeting with him I though that I should try meeting with a trainer again. Well I changed my mind and when I called out of courtesy to cancel the girl was a total bitch on the phone. So the next day I see Matt and I told him what happened, and he talked with me and apologized for it all. It helped to get some of my anger out but I still that one douchebag around and I even walked passed him the one day and asked when I was rescheduling. I said I’m good, and walked away. I hate everything about this place. But there is nothing cheaper. or closer for that matter

I lived in Philadelphia from 2004 – 2010 but I used this gym when I was home for holidays or vacations because my sister put me on her membership. The first major problem with them is you have to sign literally a 4-​year agreement. That is absurd. Also, their personal trainers will hound you relentlessly, repeatedly calling your cell phone and approaching you in the gym to try and get you to sign up for personal training sessions even after you’ve been very clear that you’re not interested.
The staff is fine but not particularly helpful. The real icing on the cake is they have the silliest lap pool I have ever seen: it only has about 5 lanes, probably only 20 meters long and is super shallow at one end so you have to turn about every 6 strokes but you’ll scrape yourself on the bottom every time. I give them two stars instead of one because it wasn’t quite as dirty as the Bally’s I used in Philadelphia.

If you are Asian American and the fact that you don’t like to go to church on Sundays to meet other Asian Americans, this is the place for you to get a chance to meet other Asians. You often accidently meet other Asians there while in the steam room and end up meeting them at the Recreation Center in Westlake, and at Borders in Westlake.
