Dinner is a comforting mix of home cooking w just a little more pizzazz than moms cooking. The service is fast, friendly and knowledgable. Drinks are well made. Nothing over priced or fancy just nicely executed and true to the originals you’ve always enjoyed. We ordered the crab stuffed baked scrod, the pork Marsala special and the spice sausage ravioli. All were succulent, perfectly cooked and more than generously portioned. Good people, great food like mom made, only better! This is Westfield’s hidden gem.

This is our second time here for lunch. Both times we were breaking from a long day of bike riding. Don’t remember what I had the first time but it must have been good because we’re here again! Good service. She had the firehouse salad with chicken. Excellent without too much mayo. I had the corned beef rueben and cream of mushroom soup. Both were quite tasty. Now back to the road.

Pretty unimpressive on service, sat at the bar and the bartender was right in front of me as I had to get his attention constantly. Ordered some food and they brought out the wrong stuff. The meal was ok

Very pleasant dinner at Tavern. I had not been in some time and was pleased to find quality and quantity of dinners was excellent. Nice selection of draft beer as well. Service was attentive. Overall, an excellent choice.

We like the bar here. The service is always quick and friendly. Their Prime Rib specials on Thursday and Sunday are unbeatable. The restaurant is located in a old post office with super high ceilings and white marble everywhere. The food is always fresh and prepared to taste. This is not a gourmet restaurant. Good quality, fresh food at very fair prices. Good selection of local beers on tap

The Tavern used to be our favorite place. Had been going there since it opened. Recently, we noticed the place is definitely going down hill. From their lack of friendliness and personality to messing up our orders. We hadn’t been there for about 6 months but decided to give it another chance. It was even worse. We want to like The Tavern but just can’t any more. This is no way to treat your regulars. We’ve had hundreds of visits, some large parties and have brought countless friends there for dinner. Sad part is we probably won’t even be missed. What a shame.

Stopped in on a Saturday night after our first choice was jam packed with college kids. While we preferred to not be surrounded by drunk 21 year olds, we certainly weren’t looking to have dinner at the retirement home but unfortunately, that’s what we got. The Tavern name evokes a certain relaxed, bar atmosphere. This was anything but that. Waitstaff in white shirts and ties(really??) who barely spoke english and had an air of arrogance to them was on the menu for this evening. Also on the real menu, overpriced apps and underwhelming entrees… lovely. Upon walking in the gruff woman at the strange hole in the wall asked how many we were, to which I replied 4. Then she asked, with just a hint of annoyance«well do you have a reservation?» Now, normal people such as myself who make reservations are smart enough to know that when you arrive at a restaurant, your first order of business is to advise the staff that you have a reservation. We did not have a reservation therefore I did not advise this woman of that upon our first speaking through the hole-wall. On to our actual meal. Waitress as previously mentioned had a ridiculously thick accent making it very difficult to understand her which in turn created a significant gap in service. The couple my husband and I were out with are both recovering persons with addiction so there was no alcohol ordered which may have added to the hostility from the server. And if that is the reason for it then maybe try to earn your tip by being nice instead? Just a thought. I ordered chicken alfredo which came with a salad. The salad was your standard iceberg with a few vegetables. The pepperoncini was a nice touch but more than 1 would’ve been even nicer. My entrée was beyond bland. No need to worry about your blood pressure here folks because the kitchen clearly doesn’t know how to use salt or even pepper. Chicken wasn’t rubbery but also wasn’t entirely palatable. Overall, I expected way more than what we got here and certainly don’t intend to go back. Too stuffy, rude staff and meh food.

The Tavern Restaurant conveniently found in the very center of Westfield is situated in the old post-office building. This accounts for its high ceilings and its large bar and dining areas. This is a good place to meet as there is a parking lot directly bordering the Tavern. There is not much adventurous about the food. Still I can recommend the creamy New England clam chowder. Unfortunately the fish in the fish and chips appeared pre-packaged — if it wasn’t it didn’t have a lot of flavor and had a heavy coating as opposed to a light batter coating. The chips were good enough however(especially with the addition of malt vinegar) and the cole slaw tasted homemade. The service here is consistently friendly. The Tavern gets busiest right after work even if Massachusetts doesn’t allow Happy Hours or reduced prices for alcohol. Hey, people still gotta drink and grab a bite to eat after a day of hard labor!

Roman cheese bread only had cheese on half the bread. Buyer beware… Other than that it was a fine experience.

Immaculate, tasty, and the service is second to none! The tavern is a Westfield institution! I love this place!!! The chicken francaise, chicken Parmesan, and beef tenderloin Marsala are not to be missed.

Shrimp cocktail was great but serving and pricing it per shrimp really isn’t the way to go. Great atmosphere and really enjoyed how laid back the place was.

Decent atmosphere. Fair food. Terrible mistake. I spent some time in Westfield, MA this weekend. When the question of where we should go for lunch came up, the two local professionals I was working with immediately came up with the same answer: The Tavern Restaurant. We followed their unanimous suggestion. We lunched at a table in the bar part of the restaurant on two successive days. The place has atmosphere. High arch doorways of what I was told was a former post office adorn the bar area. The bar itself was cheerily decorated for Christmas. Televisions placed at key locations gave the place a bit of a sports bar feel. The service was second to none. Someone greeted us on both occasions as we entered the bar, and invited us to sit wherever we liked. A server was quick to come by, take drink orders, and offer us menus. The food came without an inordinate wait and the wait staff was just attentive enough to our needs, without being intrusive. We tried a number of offerings on the menu. The clam chowder was hot, but not that tasty. Ditto for the meat ball sandwich. I had the fish and chips one day, which I really liked. My companion would place the corned beef Reuben as her top pick of the wares we sampled. We were also both introduced to a beer we were unfamiliar with, a local named Steel Rail. The brew got four thumbs up. That’s two from each of us. The terrible mistake in the review title concerns that meatball sandwich I had on our second visit. It is described as meatballs topped with sauce and cheese on a roll. The sandwich came as described, but as I was about halfway though it I came across another component. The sandwich also included a red wire twist tie. You know … those things you might see on the end of a bread loaf. I immediately lost my appetite after this find. The management seemed concerned, and was very apologetic about the mistake. They couldn’t have been nicer. Still, the error occurred and I will be sure to explore Westfield’s other culinary options before ever reconsidering The Tavern Restaurant. If anyone from The Tavern Restaurant is reading this, you really need to research how such an error could occur. The potential health consequences of ingesting a wire twist tie make this an error, for the health of your patrons, which can never be repeated.

Love going and sitting at the bar for lunch. Great the staff. Alway attentive and helpful. Wonderful atmosphere in the bar area. French onion soup is one of my favs. Portions are a nice size. If your going for an after work drink, this is the spot. Prime rib special and Ruben is the best in town.

Could be better but not bad for what it is. Service — attentive and helpful. No complaints about the server. However, the entrance to the restaurant isn’t more than a narrow hallway. When you emerge from the hallway you are in the restaurant without a clear sense of what to do next. The host didn’t make us feel welcome. Not rude, just not welcoming. Food — comfort food with amazingly bland flavoring. Cant complain — other than to express disappointment. We had bland chicken Alfredo with broccoli. And slightly over cooked Veal Parm. I do recommend the roman garlic bread. Yesssss. It is as advertised and large! Picture included with this review. Environment — not a very large dining room. Nice setting if you don’t mind background music. It was perfect for us. I can see how a busy dinner could make you have to wait for a while.

Rotating draft list is awesome! Heavy pasta dishes are a mainstay on the menu and the prices don’t necessarily reflect the rudimentary or canned products they use. A «salad» is just iceberg lettuce and a crap load of dressing. Nothing else is really vegetarian friendly. Your best bet is to split the cobb salad which is HUGE and enough for two people.

My husband and I were visiting Westfield and Westfield State University for our son’s parent student orientation and came here for dinner. We sat on the bar side which was very nice and had popcorn from the help yourself machine. The waitress was very nice and attentive. It was our first time here and based on the reviews tried the Schrod and the Hamburger. The hamburger came with yummy steak fries and a pickle and was delicious. I highly recommend the burger which was made fresh and the steak fries. The Schrod was with a crabmeat stuffing and was also very good. We also got stuffed mushrooms which were just ok. The pork chops look delicious and I will try those next time. Definitely try it out.

I’ve driven past this place quite a number of times and it looks great from the outside. After a game at Westfield State we stopped in. So did about 30 other people as well so we walked in and the place was packed. We ended up at the corner of the bar where you could not sit and have a meal. So waiting for different seats to open up either at the bar or at the tables on the bar side. There were many hovers waiting for seats as well so it was a bit chaotic trying to get a place to eat a meal. The bar service was mixed. There were three bartenders on. Only one seemed competent. Beer selection was nice. Good to see local Westfield River beers on tap. Also a nice selections of other favorites. Food was average, nothing special. I had the Reuben, well cooked with fries and some soup a nice meal. Wife had eggplant parm, stacked with 9 layers of eggplant. Not running back to go here again, but a nice looking place. Also they have all these doors that are labeled do not enter, yet the couple next to us had no problem using them to go out for smoke breaks. I guess if your a regular they let you do whatever you want.

In town visiting family and we decided on an early dinner. Walked in at 5:00 to a few people at the bar and one or two tables sat with guests. Server approached immediately and asked us for a drink order. I tried the local beer: Westfield River Brewing Company«Charlie in the Rye» and it was really good. Hoppy, good flavor… defiantly not for the Bud/Coors light people. Waiting for the other 3 people to arrive, the server went over specials. She was friendly and very attentive. Food ordered, it arrived quickly and hot. I had the traditional club and a cup of chowdah. Both were perfect and the steak fries were piping hot and crispy. I would defiantly go back and try more of the beer selection… it’s better than I expected in WMASS. Food it typical pub style, but they do a good job. TV’s in the bar to watch all the New England sports, clean atmosphere and plenty of parking behind. Downtown Westfield needs more places like this to get people coming down there.

Westfield’s Tavern Restaurant sits along the the town square in the middle of downtown Westfield, Massachusetts. The restaurant is located in the town’s old Post Office, and so it’s a very stately-looking building from 1910 with a granite exterior and 20-foot high ceilings with arched windows. There is a separate bar area with a large wooden bar, numerous flat screen TVs on the walls, and a lively crowd enjoying their adult beverages with music. The other half of the restaurant is more typical table seating with a nice selection of menu items for lunch and dinner. They have a number of chalkboard luncheon specials for under $ 10, and a regular menu that includes standard pub-fare appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees ranging from Italian classics, seafood, and beef. For today’s lunch I had Veal Parmigiana with a side of angel hair pasta and a salad for under $ 10. Add in an iced tea, tax, and tip, and i was out the door for under $ 15. Good food, large portions, and a friendly group of servers.
