A friend and I have just arrived home from a drink at the Shortstop Bar and Grill. We planned on going there for a few hours, but were unfortunately disappointed. My friend is from Western Massachusetts, and I wanted to show him some of the nice establishments in the area. I have been to this bar multiple times, and have always been treated with courtesy and respect by their wait staff. We were not greeted by any hostess, but walked in and seated ourselves at the very end of the bar directly in front of the POS systems. A bartender took our drink orders and quickly delivered them to us. A few short minutes later, another bartender asked if we needed anything, to which I ordered another drink while my friend was finishing his first. As I had previously stated, we were planning on staying for quite some time, but our bill was rudely presented to us without a word. We sat at the bar for another half hour without being served, while the bartender had a conversation with the owner directly across from us. We paid our bill and quietly exited the facility unimpressed. I have just moved to this area, and this is one of the few bars that I have genuinely enjoyed going to. The food, the drinks, and the staff, have always been some of the best in the area. I was surprised that we were treated with such disrespect, but a good track record is no excuse for terrible service. I felt as if they were pushing us out the door, and I was embarrassed to have spoken so highly of this bar. I will not be returning in the future.

I went to Shortstop for the second time last night and it has greatly improved! The beer selection is pretty standard but they are reasonably priced! Since the Pats game was on all wings were 50 cents each which is an excellent deal! You can mix and match the wing choices in any combination. The service is average but it can be slow although it was understandable due to the crowd for the game.

Decent beer selection. Good food. My only real issue is with the acoustics. It’s so loud that you can’t carry on a conversation. A problem easily fixed by hanging a couple of sound dampening panels from the ceiling.

Stumbling across the bright lights, making Shortstop bar & grill physically appetizing exemplifies the old saying; «Never judge a book by its cover». This is the picture perfect place for Jon Taffer to come in, uproot the staff and enhance professionalism amongst the establishment. Loud crowd is ideal for a sports bar and grill, especially located in a college town. However, for a family restaurant it is extremely unwelcoming. There is a window behind the bar that can look into the kitchen, which is not a good idea if your cook is going to make an annoyed expression every time a ticket comes in. Appetizers were nothing short of weak. Overpriced frozen chicken tenders that were slapped with a buffalo sauce, complimented by a server whose attention was more focused on talking to the locals she was not serving, and joking around with other employees. Sweet woman but very un attentive for a quiet Wednesday night. I work in the industry know perfection is far fetched but the lack of professionalism drained me. Bartender hunched over his dinner in between serving drinks was unsanitary and mind boggling. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, for their steak tips were the equivalent to cat food. This place needs to stp purchasing product for the lowest possible price to sell at the highest possible price. Bad business techniques and lack of professionalism will be the down fall of this restaurant. I would love to take a look into the kitchen, can only imagine the upset customers would have seeing behind the scenes. Cant be much more clean or professional than what the customers could see out on the floor. Disappointment, and Shortstop has its work cut out for them.

We tried Shortstop again and I want to add another star to my rating. Things definitely improved since our last visit! We went to watch the football games and there were plenty of t.v.‘s to do that. We got some appetizers — the nachos and the sampler — and both were very good. The cheese was melted nicely on the nachos and the chips were crisp. All of the options on the sampler were hot and very good. So the food was much better than our last visit. Perhaps last time was an off day in the kitchen. The service, as usual, was very good. We’ll definitely be back — especially on football Sundays!

This place is a mess. I called ahead to see if they could put a certain football game on one of their tvs. They said it wouldn’t be a problem at all and we might also be able to have audio of the game. My husband and I arrived early to ensure that the game was on where we were sitting. Our server was extremely nice and helpful(I think her name is Kristina) and asked someone to turn it on a specific tv. About 30 minutes later(after assisting others who came after us), a man came around with a remote control and tried to change several of the tvs. Most of them didn’t work and he clearly didn’t know how to operate the electronics in the bar. We asked the server again and she had to ask several people. The game was turned on a tv not even close to where we were sitting. She was able to move us for a decent view. We were there before most people and would have sat near the tv if someone knew on what tv it would be. The food is somewhat edible, but not worth ever having again. Again, the server was extremely kind and did her best, but didn’t have much help.

Do NOT order the nachos or the guacamole. Nachos are equal to what you’d do at home, when you arrive with the«drunk munchies». Throw chips on a plate, throw shredded cheese on top, put it in the microwave and call it «nachos». Inexcusable for a restaurant charging $ 8.00. No cheese«sauce». No flavor. BAD.(There is however, another pub in Westfield, close to Barnes, that makes the best nachos with the most AMAZING homemade cheese sauce you’ve ever had!) Skip them here though… really. Also, SKIPTHEGUACAMOLE… trust me on this one. Looks looks like green pudding from a can and doesn’t taste much better. They use iPads to send your orders through which is cool, but you have to ASK for a receipt and there’s no printer on the patio. Then it calculates your tip, but you can’t tell if its including tax and cocktails. The patio(that the recently expanded) is a great place to hang out. They’ll be featuring music. Always nice to have other a place to dine and drink al fresco. Service is good. My strawberry spinach salad was tasty and drink options are pretty solid.

Had lunch here with a group — I didn’t even know this place existed! It’s a pretty large space, and it looks like they’re expanding. Casual, clean atmosphere with plenty of seating, a large patio, and some good American bar staples. My group ordered several apps to share, highlights included the Garlic Parmesan wings, Spinach-artichoke dip, and the ever-trendy Brussels Sprouts.(Why is everyone so into brussels sprouts these days? I don’t know, but Shortstop’s roasted version was pretty on-point, actually.) I had the Margherita flatbread, which was very good — props on the well-executed crispy crust — and my friend had the Chicken Caesar wrap with Sweet Potato fries, which she also liked. We didn’t have drinks or dessert with our lunch, so I can’t comment on those, but it looked like they had a pretty decent selection on tap — and I was almost swayed by the description of some sea salt caramel confection. After sharing apps and having my fill of the flatbread, there was no room left in the inn. Service was polite, prompt and courteous. We were checked on several times. Prices were very reasonable in my opinion. Seems like they may have had some kinks to work out, and some staff shortage issues(indicated in previous reviews), but it’s clear they’ve ramped up for the summer season and figured it out. 9⁄10 would definitely eat here again.

WORSE experience of our lives!!! Food was so overcooked and tasteless we couldn’t even finish. The food is grossly overpriced. Lets not forget that the gym shares the entrance of the restaurant. when i asked the server for my sandwich on multi grain i was informed that she doesn’t like to offer since she doesn’t know how many grains are in it. music is obnoxiously loud and the place is dirty and smelly. what a waste !!!

Didn’t know what to expect but heard good things. Friendly but seemingly inexperienced waitress with too many tables to handle. The flatbreads were good but very overpriced. I was put off by the slow staff but will give it another try down the road.

Just came from there 4⁄12. The family that owns it should stick to the jewelry business. 45 minutes for two chicken sandwiches. Raw bacon, cold fries. Not acceptable. Service was lackluster at best. Someone from the kitchen brought the food out. Restaurant was not busy just a lazy waitress. Sent the meal back, no response from management, guess he was too busy eating his dinner in the foyer behind the hostess stand.

Service was horrible. The servers use Ipads instead of real pads of paper and pens. Meaning your server has no actual knowledge of the menu — ESPECIALLYTHEBEERMENU — our server didnt even know what was on tap. So here is how our night unfolded: arrived at 5:30pm on a Thursday — we were seated immediately and the hostess was very nice. Our server came and my boyfriend and I each ordered an Anchor Steam(it was the beer special of the month) our server insisted we meant«angry orchard»…she had no idea Anchor Steam was even a beer company… let alone the beer special of the month. She checks with the bar and they actually don’t even carry Anchor Steam — okay fine we order a pitcher of switchback(I had to actually click it on her Ipad for her as she had no idea it was a beer). She brings us a pitcher of what looks like chocolate milk. The beer tasted and feels disgusting — she comes back 10 minutes later and explains someone shook the keg. She takes the nasty pitcher away and we opt for a pitcher of Harpoon… she brings it back maybe 15 minutes later. It tastes great… YAY! On to food. Server clicked the wrong item on her ipad and brought the 3rd person in our party the wrong meal. My boyfriend and I watched our food get cold while we waited for my friends food to come out. Lovely. Calamari was horribly overcooked. Mushroom melt was cold. Fries were soggy. Great. Tried to order more beer…(why? I wanted the server to redeem herself!) So we decide to go cheap and asked how many beers came in the beer buckets. She had no idea. Then we asked if we could just have 2 Narragansetts — not a whole bucket(this should be a no brainer) she actually had to ASK a supervisor. She had no idea Narrangansett came in a can so she couldnt find it on her ipad. We wait another 10 minutes. She comes back and says THEYDON’T CARRYNARRAGANSETTDESPITETHESIGNSHANGINGAROUNDTHEBARADVERTISINGTHEBEER. Okay we order 2 Sam Summer drafts instead. I’ll end the novel with this — not one beer was comped. We were charged full price despite the fact that we didnt actually drink one beer we wanted — and she never once suggested alternatives. Never EVER again. Our bill was $ 75 and we all walked away dissapointed.

The service here is terrible. Both at the bar and at a table. The food is almost as bad. The burger I had was ok, but the guacamole was gross. 9.00 for a small bowl of some weird forest green paste. The chips that came with it were a wet, greasy wad. It’s extremely loud and crowded in the dining area. Getting a drink at the bar is fairly aggravating. Just about anywhere you stand, someone will ask you to move. The wait to get into this place is definitely not worth it. I doubt I’ll be back.

We will try this place again on a not so busy night. Staff did its best to accommodate guests due to a poor kitchen staff. We had a party of 9 and only 6 meals came out correctly and we waited over an hour for our meals. Management was very apologetic and did what they could for us. Will try again during the week. Of the food that came out, it was good.

I had the special tonight with the fish & chips. If you like a really crunchy, hard crust then you will like this. I prefer a soft crust. The cole slaw was good, fresh but nothing special. The fries were lightly seasoned. I had a glass of Cabernet and paid $ 2 extra for another 2 ounces. No dessert but they do offer it. It was okay and I will go back one more time to try the quesadilla.

Whenever you go to a bar and grill, you must always try a burger. If a place can’t make a burger properly than things won’t last. I had gotten the triple play burger. It was full of spice which I loved. What I didn’t like was when I ordered a medium cooked burger, I received a well done burger. I was disappointed but the server was no where to be found to say anything. Besides the over cooked burger, the toppings were spot on and the fries were good. The best part of my meal was splitting the nachos with my friends before our burgers came out. You could tell the onions and tomatoes were fresh and the chips had the the right amount of melted cheese.

My husband and I tried the Short Stop for the first time today. I was pleased to see a family-owned, non-chain restaurant in Westfield SO busy. We were happy to find out that most of the food is made in house, e.g. Homemade chili, great onion soup, fried Brussels sprouts, flatbreads, salads… happy with everything. Our server was lovely and apologized for being so busy. I thought is was fantastic to see the tables all full.
