I was so bummed when I saw all of the negative reviews for Sapporo. This has become my go to, close to home, sushi place. Here’s what I like about it: — I’ve been many times and the service has always been quick and friendly. The chef will accommodate special orders with a smile and the service staff knows what they’re doing. — The hot and sour and veggie wanton soups are seriously amazing. — The bento lunch box is inexpensive, quick and delicious. — I love the Thai influence and options on the menu. The Pad Thai is solid. — The sushi has always been fresh, tasty and presented nicely. — It’s locally owned and operated. I love supporting local business. They could upgrade the interior a bit but its not uncomfortable. Definitely give this place a try.

I have been here twice lately. The food & service is spectacular. Thai Fried Rice, birdie roll, mermaid roll, coconut soup, crab rangoon, and spring rolls all amazing as I sampled them all.

Strike! Just left w/out ordering. This used to be our go to sushi joint. Lost its mojo though… Guy seating doesn’t understand you can’t leave a dirty sushi bar. Ie. You sat me at a sushi bar littered w/bottles and dirty dishes. Huge no no. Have your patrons wait while you clear. And you’re not above clearing dishes either. Don’t stand behind a greeters podium thinking your busy. It ain’t Nobu pal.

New management, new menu. Some of my Japanese favorites have been replaced with Thai selections. Not a bad thing, just new. We had sushi and some appetizers. Everything was good. Service was a bit slow. Obviously, still working out the kinks.

First time write a review on Unilocal, but i feel i have to rate this. It was one of my best Japanese restaurants in Columbus, but today, i suddenly find out everything changed. Menu changed, owner changed, quality changed! And they didnt change the name! The new menu has big portion of Thai food, and the food is not fesh, bad taste, very small portion and way more expensive. My food has very strange smell, and i can hardly eat it. We are half way hungry after paying 30+ dollar for lunch. We were thinking if we should drive through kfc before return to office. It’s funny they still consider themselves as sushi factory. Today would be my last time to have meal there…

This place is now wonderful. The new owners have a great new fusion menu with Thai and Japanese. Had a lunch box that had pad thai and sashimi. Very good! And the service was excellent too! They have brought back many former employees. I recommend this place now. Thank you for returning a Columbus institution to its former glory!

Slow. Slow. They lost our order. 40 min waiting for food. There were only 5 tables of people. And messed up the order. And then charged for food not delivered. Incompetent.

The Sushi came after dinner! The service was poor and the guy rolling the sushi was yelling at the girls waiting tables. So much for date night. The rolls were the loosest rolls I have ever seen. Won’t go back that is for sure

This place is great. Im a huge sushi fan and normally I go to tora sushi in new albany and sapporo has better quality, more space, incredibly friendly owner whos name is Jin, they have two TVs at the bar and plenty of sushi options for anyone that needs some extra ideas. I plan on coming back and whoever says this place isint good does not know sushi. Their eel was perfect, avacado fresh, salmon nice and pink not frozen, miso soup was delicious. Everything about this place will bring me back again. Try it out for yourself and im sure you will have the same experience as me. A great one for a great price.

Sapporo’s lunch menu was wonderful. I enjoyed the Chicken Teriyaki Bento — strongly recommend it.

This place is very awful. The worst Japanese restaurant ever! Under new ownership, food is really disappointing and service is not prompt, too! I went this place few weeks ago as my last visit, and I saw interesting thing. The owner yelled to the worker several times and the server looked very nervous, too. I don’t wanna go any place which owner treats the workers improperly. Overall, this is the place to avoid by food or new management. Food was much worse than previous owner. Service was too slow.

Under new ownership, food is average at best. It use to be one of the best sushi in town, now it is average at best. Service is good, but I try the tempura and teriyaki seafood today, very disappoint and I will not be back

We decided to have lunch at this place day before Xmas eve. Only 1 other customer there. Usually Sapporo is VERY slow with service, and service not being very good on top, of the slowness. This time, service was HORRIBLE. We were told the owners had changed and the new owners were«trying to figure things out». We ordered lunch hoping service would be better. Wrong. 1. 2 of us… first order took 40 mins to arrive. 2. 2nd order arrived 10 mins after they told us it was on its way… and then it was not even the right order. We told them to forget about the 2nd order. 3. Both orders had teriyaki chicken(1 bento, 1 a bowl w/rice) — why couldn’t they make both chicken orders at the same time? 4. «Miso soup» is now a plain chicken or beef broth with 2 soggy tempura onion rings in it. What happened to the miso, tofu & seaweed? 5. Salad had some horrible pass at ginger orange dressing that was so salty it ruined the freshness. 6. Chicken teriyaki was very dry and over cooked. 7. When asked for more green tea, server didn’t bring a pot to refill, but physically a 2nd cup of tea. If I had asked for a 3rd, would I collect 3 cups at the table? 8. The bento box had California rolls, but the server didn’t even bring a small dish for the soy sauce. The owner didn’t charge us for the«missed» order and kept bowing and apologizing in clipped English. OK… we know you are sorry, we hope you learn from it. The only bright spot was the hostess who seemed to know the most about what was going on, most helpful, and felt embarrassed for the new owners, When we left, there were 5 other tables full of customers and we said to ourselves — good luck with getting your food! We will not return for a long time.

Mushy sushi! Mushy sushi! Mushy sushi! I do not like mushy sushi. I got excited when I walked into this restaurant and saw on the front door that it was«Columbus Dispatch top Sushi in Columbus». This must have been from the 1970’s or I have a hard time believing it. Everything tastes just a little bit funny. Got the spicy California rolls and the mayonnaise on them is just a bit odd. The seaweed salad was extra fishy. The club soda was flat. I don’t see the attraction. There are a half dozen better, more high quality sushi places than Sapporo just in it’s own area; let alone the entire city of Columbus!

I came here with my aunt and uncle before they head back home. They told me this was their favorite restaurant so that’s why we came here for dinner. Staff here is understaffed and food came out very late and the children were almost served last which is embarrassing for a restaurant to serve kids last. Even the parents could not stand that. My husband just ordered a simple sushi roll and it took them longer to get that out than my meal alone. I didn’t finish my meal because recently I got sick on my honeymoon from drinking unpurified water so I’ve been careful with food as well. I can handle eating sushi but my sashimi salad was a bit much and I couldn’t digest that much raw fish. I wish I hadn’t eaten off everyone plates because I don’t usually do this unless my food was really that bad where it did not satisfy me. I was literally helping my nephew finish his eel because I was that hungry from not liking my dish. The waitress also messed up my uncles order and he didn’t get his meal until everyone was done eating and we all felt bad for him since he doesn’t eat meat. He specifically ordered the fish dish and we all ended up waiting for him to finish it before leaving the restaurant. I’m sorry but I don’t think we will be back and it’s a pity they left a bad impression on my aunt and uncle right before they were leaving the states.

I really wish this place was better, because then I could stay in cozy little Westerville and get sushi and I wouldn’t have to worry about crossing 270, which I don’t like to do because I’m old, to go to that spazzed out joint in Easton(the name escapes me because I’m old.) Anyway, you know that feeling you get sometimes when you eat sushi that might be a bit dicey and you’re basically waiting to see which direction your night will go? That was the feeling I got after my visit here(Full disclosure: I was fine.) The definition of two stars and/or «Meh, I’ve experienced better.» Edamame, that’s the name of the place in Easton. You should probably just go there, I know I will.

Just ate here and I’m pretty disappointed. Sushi was mushy as if the rice had been over soaked. I ordered letter box C that came with shrimp tempura and salmon for $ 21. It was definitely NOT worth the money. You get a small piece of salmon and a huuuuuge portion of nothing but fried shrimp and veggies. The only thing I can say I enjoyed really was the miso soup. Other than that I wouldn’t waste my time coming back here again. The blaring music from the bar next door didn’t help either.

I enjoy this place. I can compare this to Saya, in Fairborn. The sushi is very good here… it’s definitely my go to restaurant whenever I’m in Columbus. The food took a while to come out tonight… but it’s a Friday night and this place was packed. ;) Great food, as usual! I also find it interesting that they have their sushi bar located where no one can see it. Anyway, onwards to why I actually feel compelled to create a review on this place… …something I’ve never quite written a review on… about a specific waitress. This was my second time here, and there is a specific female who seems a bit loopy. Rambly. Forcing conversations with the customers. Maybe this is just her personality, but it’s not very professional. I’m sure she has good intentions, but it’s incredibly off-putting and uncomfortable. I have been a waitress myself. I have worked everywhere from Steak N’ Shake to Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse. It’s a learning process, I understand. But I was so unsettled by her strange behavior that I felt prompted to write a review… literally, just on her. I’m sure she’s great… just, what strange customer service…

I’m here for lunch and got the teriyaki salmon bento box, the waitress was more than happy to fill my request for a roll other than California. Their miso soup is out of this world, instead of tofu they float thinly shaved tempura onions it it, yum. The salad has a really tasty ginger sesame dressing, instead of that chunky orange crap that most places peddle. My salmon was perfectly cook, and I mean perfectly. Over all I’m more than satisfied.
