Hunter’s Creek Equestrian Center

This is in response to Jessica W. I ride and board at this barn. I’m not sure what she means by horses standing in their feces. Yes, not all the bedding is taken out of the stall during the cleaning shifts. The bedding is sifted to remove all the wet spots and feces. New bedding is then put back in. Don’t you typically sift a cats litter box instead of constantly dumping the entire box? A horses stall is the same concept. That could be the reason she didn’t make it longer than a few days. Stalls are also picked twice a day.
Horses are fed hay pretty much every time they sick their heads out of the stall. There are also pretty every type of Nutrena safe choice feed you can imagine. The owner will also bring in any type of feed to ensure the horse maintains their weight. Any horse fed 2 or more pounds of feed automatically get a 3^rd feeding, again at no additional charge.
The horses are blanket appropriately during the winter. No the horses did not always go out every day. That decision is based on weather and the conditions of the fields. If it’s super muddy, the kind that can do ligament damage kind if mud, no they do not go out. If it’s –20 degrees, no they do not go out. The staff and owner will put boots on for turnout and take them off as the horse directs at no extra cost.
The owner is willing to sleep on a concrete floor all night to make sure a horse won’t colic. The barn owner is very willing to help many of the local rescues by taking in starvation cases to help fatten these poor animals back up. Would the rescues reach out to this owner if the care was horrible?
Also, if this barn owner is as bad as Jessica W. say, why is the barn completely full with a wait list? Would many of the boarders still be at this barn after 1, 2, or 4 plus years if everything was as bad as Jessica says it is? I wouldn’t still be there if my horse wasn’t being cared for. Maybe there’s a reason why she didn’t make it workng there.

The owner likes to «hire» people on for a few days, and then never call back or respond to your messages. You never receive the pay after you work either. Not to mention the fact that they cant afford to care for your horses. They reuse bedding. They just scoop through it like its a little box, so basically your horses are always in a lot of their own feces when they are inside. Which in the winter, is apparently all the time because the owners are to lazy to get them bundled up and take them outside. I overheard the owner talking to another employee saying «I fired a whole group of people for cleaning the entire stalls and putting all new bedding down, The crap isn’t going to fly» The barn is dilapidated and the doors barley open if at all. The fences where the horses are kept when they are let outside are disastrous. Missing boards, sharp screws sticking out. Your horses are not safe or well cared for here. I would suggest finding your boarding space elsewhere!
