This is a psych hospital in the state of Maine. I have pretty bad complex PTSD, so I have a history of 22 hospitalizations, nine suicide attempts. This is a decent facility compared to a lot of other psych units I’ve been in. The food if you get off-unit privileges is excellent, where you can stuff yourself to your heart’s delight with mushrooms and pickles and other nutritious salads and goodies; all the on-unit snacks are fat-free and sugar-laden though. The attending doctors tend to have the kind of conservative«I’ve been doing this for twenty years» pro-establishment cluelessness and aren’t likely to be persuaded by discussions of clinical literature(I’m a biochemistry graduate) but there are some very astute and compassionate young psychiatric residents who are attuned to gender identity, LGBT and Asian-American issues.
