Dharma Jewel Tibet Himalayan Handicraft

I love this shop. Every time I’m in the area, I pop in and pick up a few things for myself, and for gifts as well. Nice people, nice variety of retail, and great prices! It’s definitely always worth a visit.

There is a gaping disconnect between the proprietress of Dharma Jewel in Westbrook, Connecticut and the teachings of the Dalai Lama and other messages of togetherness, peace and love which she sells. Her patronizing, dismissive (actually, nasty) attitude toward helping me (an obvious beginner) was luckily offset by a lovely customer in the store who patiently showed me how to use my singing bowls (which she wouldn’t deign to touch) and where to obtain mallets. All of her mallets were otherwise occupied. I had won the singing bowls at a local benefit for Nepal which she couldn’t have cared less about, and it was shortsighted of me not to have asked for mallets. I always make it a practice to shop locally, in this
case I will regretfully take my business on-​line.
She gets one star, only because there wasn’t an option to give less.

What a cool place! Our family recently started meditating and we drove over an hour to shop here. Well worth the drive! The owner spent time talking to us about Tibet, Buddhism, and meditation. She also helped our 6 year old build his own bracelet with Tibetan beads — he loved it! We will be back again soon!
