If you are stuck living in West St Paul, #1 New China is the to go place for take-out. It’s also worth a drive out in spite of its graceless strip mall location in a sad first ring suburb. The takeout here is sublime. For not much more than fast food, New China gives you tasty entrees of tender lean meat or generous portions of big shrimp. I love their black bean sauces and while I am not a fan of kung– pao, that spicy sauce seems so good here(less sticky/syrupy than other Chinese take out places). The preparation and quality @ #1 New China is crazy good for how affordable this place remains. When stuck in West St. Paul, this is the go to spot for fast tasty dinners and lunch.

It was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The fried rice and Lo Mein was very tasty! I also ordered the crunchy cream cheese wontons, Phenomenal! I definitely recommend this restaurant. Authentic cuisine and great customer service. Plus they deliver! Winner in my book.

Have to write again. This place seems to be improving all the time. The food is as good as it gets for take out. The new owner has really gotten it down. If you choose delivery you won’t be disappointed as it is very fast.

Delivery was prompt. Spring rolls were good. The Beef was squishy and the Chicken was undercooked. tried the ribs based on other reviews and they were dried out like they had been sitting under the heatlamp since lunch. Much of it went into the trash, which i guess is why you are hungry after eating Chinese food.

Very bland-ordered wings(hard as rocks), and the lemon chicken was cold and the skin was falling off-money wasted-gross!

This little Chinese joint deserves a 5-star review. As a Chinese native, I can definitely say this place is the closest to one of those homey, mom-and-pop kind of Chinese restaurants you’d find in China. The owners can speak Chinese and are very friendly for a chat. They are very patient in answering any questions you may have about their food or if you want any recommendations. Most of all, if you want something specific that’s a modification of an existing menu item or something that’s not on the menu at all(i.e., an authentic dish), they’d be willing to make it happen, even if they would need to obtain the ingredients! How cool is that?! We have ordered from them numerous times now and every time the food has been fantastic! We have tried many things and they all tasted fresh and very flavorful. If we have to make suggestions, we would say try their Thai dishes(Red Curry Chicken, Thai Basil Beef, Pad Thai, in that order), Diced Chicken with Hot Pepper and General Tso’s Chicken. All are amazing! Yes, their store front may not be very impressive but it’s nice that they have an open kitchen, which is something you would rarely find at a Chinese restaurant. Their delivery is pretty quick too. All in all you can’t really go wrong with No. 1 New China!

So, so greasy. Didn’t taste or have texture that Chinese fried foods traditionally have.

Do you enjoy a smörgåsbord of food that, despite having vastly different ingredients, somehow manages to come out the same boring shade of beige? Do you crave a level of grease that is rivaled only by that found in a deep fat fryer(which, coincidentally, I am pretty sure is their most treasured piece of culinary equipment)? Do you have a masochistic personality that loves being treated as a complete and utter incovenience, at best, by the woman at the counter? Then I have JUST the place for you! I stopped in here absolutely STARVING one day. I ordered the sesame chicken and the potstickers. I feel like these are almost impossible to mess up. I have had these dishes at Panda Express and they were good. I have had them from the Co-op, cooked by people with little to no experience with Asian cooking — good. Hell, I’ve even had them in so called tv dinner form — good. No. 1 New China? Awful…in every sense of the word. Trashtastic … and not in a good way. I did eat it. And I hated myself for it. I felt as I imagine the 16 year old who runs the fryer at McD’s feels. I felt like I could literally sense the grease oozing out of my pores. They couldn’t breathe… it was a crisis. At one point I couldn’t tell if the grease around my mouth was excess from the food itself rubbing across my lips, or if my face was literally rejecting it as I ingested it. I think it was a little bit of both. That being said, the young man at the counter was extremely personable. The woman… well, best I can say, is bored and slightly aggressive. I had to mentally run through my morning to make sure I hadn’t stopped off on my way to work to poop in her morning cereal and perhaps that is why she was so irritated by my existence. I’m pretty sure I didn’t. Pretty sure.

Just finished a meal for 6. Service was good and food was ready when I arrived for pickup as promised. While food was prepared well with fresh ingredients it was short of flavor.

3 Stars for value price but the food was just ok. The steamed dumplings were lacking flavor. I had a combo platter with lo mein and rice. Average lo mein but the rice underneath had way to much sauce. Overall I would try something else next time but Id still go back.

We just ordered takeout from here. There was a slight misunderstanding over the phone about the quantity we ordered. The guy on the phone was EXTREMELY nice about it and we both had a laugh… he corrected it right away. They estimated it would arrive within 30 – 45 minutes. It was here way sooner(score!). The delivery guy was also extremely nice. This place most definitely gets five stars for customer service. We ordered a ton of food(we wanted leftovers to nibble on) and the only thing we found blah was the wonton soup. The dumplings were excessively thick and the broth had an off flavor to both of us. But the soup was only $ 1.60 so it was worth the adventure, regardless. The vegetable egg foo young is awesome – the sauce is very rich and pulls together all the flavors in the patty. The pork fried rice had a lot of good flavors going on. The cream cheese wontons, fried meat wontons and steamed potstickers were all delicious(and surprisingly not overly greasy like most places). The chicken lo-mein had a good flavor. Everything tasted really fresh and came to us super hot. The chicken kung pao was ACTUALLY a touch spicy. Finally. How much did this ungodly amount of food come to, you ask? Thirty six bucks. I’d do the worm if I weren’t so full. I… I think I’m in love.

Small place with poor ambience. Food was generally average. Good sized portions for decently cheap prices. I probably wouldn’t eat there again, but it wasn’t bad if you want some decent cheap chinese. The place could definitely use a renovation.

A very strange strip mall, not hard to get to yet seems like it’s off the beaten path. New friend Victor M. highly rated it, and it got my attention, since I wasn’t going to bother. I put my order in, I was lured by a lunch special of beef lo mein, egg roll, and pork fried rice. Add delicious cream cheese wontons and it came to about ten bucks. While I waited I briefly looked around a thrift store. When I got back it was in the bag. These guys are fast. I like how you can eat in if you want, a good amount of room. I love how it’s diagonal to Chin Chin. It reminds me of Philadelphia on the corner where the 2 philly steak places are on the opposite corners. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re related.

I have been going to No1 New China now for a long time. the food has amazing flavor and the staff is very friendly. I always get the house fried rice. It does not have peas in it and no other fillers such as broccoli. The cream cheese wongtons are amazing. This place is a must go to. I would recommend calling in your order then picking it up. they provide delivery for free if you buy $ 15 worth of stuff. This is a must try. It so far is one of the best in saint paul.
