We’ve gotten some very nice pork for slow smoking. It seems like the best meat for barbecue comes from the Latino markets — it’s fattier and becomes utterly succulent after 6 – 9 hours. But let me talk about the Street Tacos. There’s just a grill and a plastic booth under a tent in the parking lot. It only serves tacos — carnitas, asada, lengua, etc. Oh, and cold soda. Limes, hot sauce, cilantro if you want. Lots of different folks eats here — cops and laborers and families and hip-hop kids. Because it is really good. Tacos are not dry shells and ground beef and shredded yellow cheese food and salad — they are what Carniceria Lopez #3 serves. Update June 30: Al Quaida alert! Last weekend my hubby went to get street tacos and the city had stopped the retaurant from making them in the parking lot! Good God! If we can’t have street food, what good is living?! Update July 15: Street tacos are back. Thank goodness for the powers of the West Sacramento Latino Market Street Taco PAC.
