Upon eating horrible, mediocre and decent Caribbean food in different Caribbean diaspora communities across the East Coast, I’ve returned to state, Tree Lion is essentially the best Rasta/Caribbean Vegetarian food I’ve had in the US! Please keep this place going and support it as much as possible! It’ll be difficult for you have to such a great place outside of South FL and NYC.

This is a place of MIRACLES! I always stop by to get their natural juices at least three to drink it the next day. Today I woke up suffering from terrible upset stomach and I couldn’t eat anything because it made it worse; so since their juices are natural freshly made stopped by(10:30pm) and the man behind the counter was very sweet & informative about the stuff they have and recommended me to try the Ginger Lion Juice since Ginger is good for upset stomach… Oh Loooorrrrrd! It saved me! I haven’t tried their food yet but the smell that comes from the place is irresistible!

Ok so I am totally loving this place… everything is absolutely delicious and flavorful… I had the peppered steak this evening and completely inhaled my meal there was nothing left in my plate in a manner of minutes… that alone should tell you how great the food is and the staff is equally as impressive. I have explained to them that I’m new and have no idea what to order and they hook you up and take the time to explain things to you. you don’t get that at many places. This is a must even if you aren’t vegetarian because everything is quite satisfying…

Amazing vegetarian food! Judging from the menu and my «lunch special» this place has not only great food, but a nice variety I have found lacking in other vegan /rasta places like this. My lunch special consisted of a small togo box, however this thing was loaded with goodies. I would recommend this to anyone, and a must try for us herbivores. I will say the cherry on top is the price, affordable healthy food.

It’s always a great morning when I begin it with a bowl of porridge from Treelion. Growing up in Brooklyn, I remember the access to such a fine tasting, fulfilling dish. I haven’t had that access in awhile until now. Every morning their porridge is made with different ingredients, from plantains, to pumpkin seeds, to peanuts, to green banana, to Irish moss. I don’t know what I’m getting until I show up. It’s a treat that stirs sweet memories I look forward to. It feels like home. Porridge isn’t the only dish that makes this place amazing, the food is the reason why I love going here. They cater to vegans and vegetarians. It’s nothing like being able to eat healthy and get authentic Jamaican cuisine. Ground provision or «food», as some call it, is food consisting of boiled green bananas, boiled plantains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yam, boiled dumplings, and any other vegetable that is starch based, providing fulfillment throughout your day. This is paired with the array of soy based meats(which are non-GMO) like chicken, fish, and pepper steak. If vegan«meats» aren’t appealing to you there are other healthy options like chickpeas, calalou, separately, or together that you can have with food or rice and peas which is prepared with brown rice. They also offer veggie patties, and fried dumpling made with whole wheat flour. Their prices are reasonable. Just the other night we bought dinner for the whole family, the seven of us, and spent only $ 57 and had food for two nights. I’m so glad I found this place through Unilocal. The reviews speak to the truth of Treelion.

I didn’t realize I lived so close to this place. Wish I realized it was near me sooner. It’s a vegan spot seems to be run by a very nice man. It was first time there and he was patient w explaining the menu and prices to me. Most of the Jamaican spots near me, although food might be good, service is horrible. I think the man attitude toward his customer had an impact of how much more I like the place. A lot of people were getting the stew pea soup. I chose the two entrée meal and he included potatoes, bananas, and some other root veggies one which tasted floral. All in all, very good food and I’ll be a repeat customer

Nice, friendly people and the food is great. I was confused by the menu until it was explained to me. Luckily, I met a guy who frequents the spot & he suggested what I should order. All in all, I like the place & will be returning.

Never a disappointment when I come here. Starting to feel like a regular. Food taste great and the staff is always friendly. This time around I ordered the veggie pepper«steak» lunch combo which was served with Callaloo greens, The freshest avocado I’ve ever tasted, brown rice and pigeon peas, and butter beans. This place has 5 stars because it gives you the island flavors that you look for in a healthier package. Not too spicy, just perfect.

I sadly got lost finding this lil Gem! My fault for trying to take side roads and somehow ended up south & east! Even had to pay for getting on the turnpike only to get immediately off?! Crazy women drivers who should be using their navigator… Owner was friendly! No surprise with all of these fabulous reviews! I left my selection up to him! For my little girl: $ 6 small container of ital stew, ackee, callaloo & chickpea goodness! Pineapple & ginger juice– yum! 2 large dinners to go as well: $ 8.50 each Black rice/rice & peas. Banana, avocado, potato(not sure what kind but it was good!), the callaloo & chickpea… Couple vegan meats. I really liked the vegan fish & he loved the peppered steak(I’m guessing from reviews that’s what it was called lol) — it had okra. Love okra so much! Food was full of flavor! Nice spice! That juice!!! Next time I will try the ginger & passion fruit. Oh how I would love this place to be sitting on my corner! I would truly walk there & have lunch a couple times a week if not more! Why are these amazingly delicious & healthy places so few & far between and the«M» word is on every corner?! This chef needs a food truck and spread his food & message of LOVE to everyone! Thank you fellow Unilocalers for another GREAT place!

Once again, delicious food and really nice people! This time I discovered that on Fridays and Saturdays, in addition to their vegetarian i-tal choices, they also offer really delicious snapper escovitch! We also tried the vegan«shrimp» … simply amazing. I and my wife have never been fans of simulated meat used in vegetarian cooking, but I’ve got to say theirs is incredible. I had a soursop juice drink with my escovitch, and as we left, mentioned that we’ve been meaning to plant one in our yard in Miami. The owner told us to wait a minute, and he gave us a soursop seedling(actually, over a foot tall) from the garden out back! Once again, they’re the nicest people here! Can’t wait to go back!

So vegetarian an vegan food is something I have found myself gravitating more toward as the years of my life pass, not just for reasons of physical health, but for spiritual reasons as well. That being the case, I jumped at my first opportunity to partake in the blessing known as Ital food. Ital being a take on the word«vital», the Rastafari place a very high importance over what goes into their bodies, and those who follow the true path of the Rasta way eat Ital, don’t drink alcohol, eat foods that are relatively saltless and basically do not contain many of the toxic ingredients most of us eat. Much of the food we generally eat is a slow(and sometimes fast acting, depending on one’s body chemistry) acting poison, and it’s something they do not eat. All that having been said, my daughter and I were excited to go by Treelion and try their offerings. I have been a fan of Jamaican food for years, but I always knew even from the beginning that Ital food was something very different and special, and not to be found easily. So needless to say, when we went we were quite excited to try these legendary flavors and know that we would be eating SOMEOFTHEHEALTHIESTFOODONTHEPLANET. We arrived and were greeted by the friendly fellow behind the counter who I straight up told«we are first timers, what would you suggest?» He hooked us up with a nice combo plate, and we opted for the largest for us to both share. Inside we had Veggie Fish, Veggie Pepper Steak, Rasta Pasta, Rice & Peas, and Mixed Veggies. To drink, we ordered a bottle of Passion Lion as well as a bottle of Pineapple Ginger Juice. We were hungry, so we decided to eat on the run. I just have to be straight up with anyone reading this. this was the best full on veggie meal I have ever had. No doubt about it. My daughter was loving it too, and tearing it up. There was not one single item in the plate that we were not enjoying. Now, remember we’re talking all veggie here, meaning that the proteins are soy. I have had tofu many times, and usually it has to be seriously overpowered by salt so much to the point where it is relatively pointless to eat it. Here at Treelion(and this is mindblowing), THEPROTEINSACTUALLYTASTELIKETHEMEATTHEYEMULATE, EVENDOWNTOTHETEXTURE. WOW. DOUBLEWOW. TRIPLEWOW.(I’M GONNAGOOVERHEREANDWOWFORAWHILE)… Ok, I’m back, but sorry, I am just amazed at how good this food was. The flavor profiles in this food were subtle, but powerful. It really was something that I had not had before, and would definitely go back for more of. The juices are all freshly squeezed and packaged in house. Not watery and sugary juices you would find in any random corner store, but real fresh juice blended to perfection. I liked the vibes, I like the food, and I like thinking about the next time I’m going back for more.

«Jah Rastafari ! « What does that mean exactly? Its similar to «ami to fo» or namaste etc, it’s the general greeting Rastafarians use to hail each other. There’s also some other interesting greetings like«Emannuel I», «Selassie I», «Judah» or «Binghi», and a few others depending on which Rastafarian sect they belong to. When I was growing up I always had at least one Rastafarian friend. But I never thought on my life that I would see a some what ostracized local Jamaican religion like Rastafari take root around of the world. Much less be ranked 21st largest religion in the world. Which brings me to what tags along with the exportation of Rastafari. Its not just reggae & marijuana, but also their vegetarian/vegan based diet called«I-tal», which typically excludes salt. I’ve passed by Treelion many times and had no idea it was there. But one day this dude I know told me about Treelion and I was determined to check it out. In Jamaica you could easily pass by one of these Rasta I-tal cafes and never know, typically they are a shack or some kind of bamboo structure. But if you find one, you would have tried some of the best tasting vegetarian food you will ever have in your life. Treelion definitely lived up to the hype, for $ 9 I got a plate of seasoned rice, a tasty boiled dumpling, delicious pasta, seasoned spicy callaloo(Jamaican spinach) and some flavorful sweet & sour chik’n(vegetarian chicken). I also bought a $ 3 bottle of ginger pineapple juice which was tangy & sweet. 5STARS
Talking to the owner(I think he’s the owner) I found out that he is GMO conscious and tries to source as much organic ingredients as possible. He also does not source any soy products that are not explicitly labelled organic or GMO-Free. The menu is quite diverse and is divided between a soy derived section and a non-soy derived section, they also sell spicy or mild vegetable patties(yatties). They have a variety of in house made Jamaican drinks such as ginger-pine, sorrel, soursop leaf, pure can juice, roots drink and irish moss etc. NOTES: — $ 6.36 lunch specials are from 12pm — 3pm — this is really a take-out place, though they have a gr6w tables.

I definitely will be coming back here to taste the rest they have to offer. I let the gentleman being the counter know it was my first time and also my first week going vegetarian and he picked out a lunch special for me(brown rice with lentils, falafel, avocado, chickpea stew, and some kind of pasta). The chickpea stew was so delicious that I’m coming back for dinner for that. The meal was so tasty and the final touch of the pineapple ginger drink was refreshing. So happy this place is so close to my house.
