I gave it 2 stars because of the price but as the cliché goes, you get what you pay for. On a time crunched Tuesday, I stopped by for lunch and ordered their special — bisté a lo pobre which is basically«poor man’s steak». It comes with steak, fries, fried platanos, and rice. It included a maracuya drink so I was psyched. Childhood memories started rolling in. I mean, it looked promising. Was hoping for a new discovery, an unknown«hole in the wall» — well, it’s on a corner so you can’t miss it. The food came out quick and as you can imagine, not fresh besides the egg. The fries, seemed reheated. The steak had lingers of flavor that normally I don’t associate with steak. The platanos maduros were oily, enough to grant a few napkin pats or rub downs. The door is no-frills and the waitresses, although nice and attentive were cursing and talking about polladas and borracheras — keeping it real I guess? I wouldn’t mind the chatter if the food was awesome but this one was not quality Peruvian. Go to Oh Calamares(Kearny), Costanera(Montclair-romantic), La Mar(NYC-completely upscale), or even Tia Delia(Patterson — family style in the hood) for some real Peruvian cuisine.
