We celebrated Birthday party on Saturday and I am very glad that we chose this place ! The ambiance was just as great and food was very fresh, delicious and in abundance! I ordered cake from outside bakery and it was not delivered on time, but we were allowed to stay longer(our allotted time was from 12 – 4) despite the fact, that it created inconvenience for waiters. Service was fast and very friendly. Highly recommend!

If you’re looking for some authentic Russian groceries then Kashtan is a must visit. My paternal grandparents immigrated from Odessa, Ukraine in the late 70’s and have raised me and my siblings on my grandmother’s wonderful cooking of her old recipes and pickled fruits and veggies. She’s been shopping at Kashtan for years for her specific ingredients and other goods from the homeland. They’re a little pricey but it’s well worth it and the employees are always incredibly kind and love to engage in conversation. I wish my grandparents would have made me learn to speak Russian so I could join in some of their convos when we’re in Kashtan but I guess I can take that up on my own! A great little market for all your Russian needs.

The food is delicious and the service is top notch. Also, make sure you stop by the deli next door to get some delicious goodies to go.

We had my mother’s birthday here. This is fairly typical Russian restaurant that we had to ourselves for a late lunch party. The food was also pretty typical. As per the norm for a Russian party, the table was packed with food, though many of the appetizers were fish-based, so my wife didn’t eat much. For the most part, the appetizers were good, nothing to write home about, but good. Complaints: There were complaints about the verenichky being either under-cooked or over-cooked. The lamb was over-cooked too. Tea was slow coming at the end of the meal(we drink a lot of tea, but they didn’t even have enough cups or tea for the first round) Aside from that, everything else was O.K.(The music was the same cheasy singer using a synthesizer and sounding like he was singing karaōke).

I had some great Uzbek food in this restaurant. I tried kabobs, samsa, various salads, Shurpa soup, manti and other things. The service was very good and welcoming despite the fact that there was a party about to be hosted inside.

If you are Russian then this place will treat you like royalty. I am not Russian. In fact, I am Chinese, but I went to this restaurant for my Russian BF’s Grandfather’s 80th birthday. And boy was the dinner spread a very unique experience. I think I ate so much I gained 10lbs! We arrived to dinner and were escorted to the next door dining area(not the little grocery shop). The small dining area was wall-to-wall mirrors with cheesie chandeliers and glittering lights, but it suited the ambiance. The table we sat at was a long table accomodating about 15 people. And when we got there, the table was already LOADED with plates of appetizers. I mean LOADED!!! There was hardly any space for the utensils! Check out the picture I uploaded to see what I mean. The appetizers consisted of Caviar(OMG! YUM!), Smoked Fish, Smoked Meats, Mushroom/Garlic Spread, Crab Meat Spread, Salads, Roasted Bell Pepper Spread, Roasting Potatoes, Marinated Mackerel w/Onions, entire garlic bulbs that were roasted, Crepes, Breads. And of course bottles of vodka! I totally gorged myself on the caviar. The giant pearls of briny orange salmon roe. Ikra(or ikura in japanese). I think I ate like a pound just on my own! After the appetizer spread, platters of roasted chicken, turkey cutlets, roasted lamb shanks, chicken tenders were brought out one by one. By then I could barely eat anymore because my BF failed to warn me not to eat so much w/the starters. But it was too late. There was singing and dancing by the restaurants MC/DJ who had a great voice although I couldn’t understand a word he sang. During the course of our dinner(which lasted 4 hours) another family of Russians came in to dine, followed by a couple of Asian girls who sat in the corner. If you are an authentic Ruskey and know what you’re doing, you can definitely have yourself a good time at this place.

It’s an ok Russian store. Not exactly a rememberable one. I had the Cheese Salad there. Not that good. The salads seem a lil on the pricey side and not all that fresh. People there arent that friendly either. If you want a better store check out either Tashkent(Valley Village), Odessa Market(West Hollywood), or Babushka’s. Nothing spectacular at all.
