I can’t say enough about how much I love this place. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is perfect, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful(cheers to Corey). I have been there times and I can’t get enough popovers…

As usual, I can’t believe I put that much meat in my mouth tonight. Yes, that’s what she said… and YES, Michael Scott was here dining at BLT across from us! btw, Carrell was super awesome and took pictures with all 3 of my nieces after we were all done eating. Genuinely amazing. POPOVERS These were free and pretty ridiculous, is that gruyère inside?! Obscenely good. GRILLEDDOUBLECUTBACON Um, it’s BACON, its GRILLED and it was cut DOUBLETHICK… YES it was worth the $ 9. 22 oz BONEINRIBEYE w BONEMARROW The marrow on the side was a nice touch… ribeye was cooked a perfect medium rare, great char, great flavor… better damn be for $ 47. Excellent. HENOFTHEWOODSHROOMSANDMAC N CHEESE Fantastic mushrooms and pretty damn good mac n cheese. DONUTS One of the three desserts we ordered and wonderfully light, fluffy, slightly doughy and perfectly seasoned with cinnamon and sugar. With a side of ice cream and chocolate dipping sauce of course. APPLECRUMBLE, CARAMELICECREAM This was warm, crispy, sweet, salty and cool from the ice cream. My favorite dessert of the three. CARAMELIZEDCHEESECAKE There’s a reason there is no pic for this dessert… Did I mention I was dining with 4 females?! Do you know what happens when you get between females and cheesecake?! DOYOU?! I practically got 4 simultaneous forks stuck in my hand. They do not fu*k around.

Decided to meet up with some friends for DineLA and for some reason all of us were craving steak. I arrived ½ an hour before our reservation time and before anyone else arrived. It was beautiful sunny day on the Sunset Strip so I asked the hostess if I could be seated outside while I wait. Surprise! Surprise! It was happy Hour form 5 – 7 pm HAPPYHOUR: 5 at 5, 5 Stars 5 Dishes for $ 5, 5 drinks for $ 5 — great deal! Great Patio overlooking the strip. I had the Chardonnay and the Cast Iron Black Mussels– Generous portion of mussels and worth the price. FOOD: 3.5 Stars Well since I started off with Happy Hour, I skipped the Dina LA menu. We were served complimentary Pâté and Pop Overs: Both equally generous in portions. He popovers were beaked fresh and served warm, this beats any amuse bouche and was excellent way to start dinner — 5 Stars 8 oz Filet” this dish does not come with any side so you have to order them separately. The Filet I ordered was med rare, just the way I like it and served in a cast iron dish. You have a variety of sauces to choose from which are served on the side. I had the horseradish, which was a bit weak. I am use to something with a lil’ more kick so I just skipped the horseradish and ate my steak. 3.5 stars Stuffed Mushroom caps: Great Presentation, great side dish, this is big enough to share with a group and also served over a cast iron dish. Mushrooms were not overstuffed or over cooked; I could have had this as a meal on its own. 4 stars Cinnamon sugar doughnuts with chocolate sauce: I was skeptical in ordering this dish as I am not a big donut fan, but the waiter highly recommended it. This is another generous portion and could be shared with your group. The donuts and chocolate sauce are served warm and accompanied by a side of espresso ice cream. The donuts were coated with sugar and cinnamon and were light; the chocolate sauce was bland but made for fun combination. The ice cream stood on its own — I would have been happy with just the ice cream, but overall I think my party enjoyed the donuts more than I did. 3-stars AMBIANCE: 4-stars This place is very well decorated with the right amount of lighting. The patio is beautiful and overlooks the sunset strip which makes for a great place to people watch. SERVICE: 5-stars Impeccable! From the time I walked in, the staff was very attentive and well mannered. Based on the location, I would have expected a snobbier, actor type of service but this was not the case. We were offered many menu suggestions, our dishes were served in a timely fashion, and our plates were equally cleared on the same time table.

Rundown — Steak was good but the appetizer and the sides weren’t very good. — Popovers are amazing! They even give you the recipe — Won’t be coming back any time soon. On a recent date night, my boyfriend and I decided to venture to LA to try BLT Steak. We both agreed that we’ve had better. While the popovers were amazing, that wouldn’t be enough for us to come back any time soon. For an appetizer, we first tried the Steak Tartar. It had way to much flavor — ether too much pepper or mustard and it reminded us of a deli tuna sandwich. At the end, I couldn’t really taste the meat because the added ingredients overpowered everything. Will pass next time. We also had pâté and all I remember was… it was really…“ehhhhhhh.” For our course, we shared the porterhouse. It was a decent size and the steak was cooked very well. Great flavor and the roasted garlic and chimichuri sauce was a great addition to the steak. For our sides, we went with Jalapeño mash and Brussels Spouts. The Jalapeño mash was tasty but I couldn’t get over how unappetizing it looked. As for the brussels, they were really greasy and had an overpowering flavor and was a bit too sweet for me. I would pass on both sides. Verdict — I would pass in the future.

Found this restaurant on Unilocal by searching for«steak restaurants» somewhere near West Hollywood. Between Cut, BOA and BLT, we chose BLT and glad that we did! I kept on reading about how amazing the popovers were. I don’t think I’d actually had a popover ever before in my life so I didn’t get what all the fuss was about. It’s basically just bread right? Boy, was I wrong! I’ve never had«bread» like this before. So perfectly crusty on the outside and steaming warm and moist and cheesy on the inside. It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve eaten here and I’m still thinking about that damn popover! Yes, the steak and pork chop we had were amazing too. But that popover!!! To top it off, a couple of days ago, we received a HANDWRITTEN thank you card in the mail from them! We live in OC but I’d definitely drive up to LA to eat here again.

Been here for dinner before and recently went back for a happy hour on a lazy Saturday afternoon enjoying beautiful So Cal weather in its patio area. This is more of a review for that happy hour. Let me just say I loved it! Service was superb. Food was awesome. We ordered everything on their 5 @ 5 menu except cast iron black mussels, which they told us was out. We got their as soon as the restaurant opened at 5, so I’m not sure how they could’ve been out, but whatever. Sliders were miniature size but full of flavors. Gruyère Mac & Cheese was so creamy and delish. Sangria was refreshing and beautiful to look at. Parking: metered parking or valet for $ 8. Not bad for the area. I loved that they offer this HH on Saturdays. Can’t wait to go back!

Came here for my birthday dinner with the family. We had reservations and were seated pretty quick. I had saw online that if you sign up for the rewards card you get 50% off for your birthday for up to four people. I wanted to know more about the rewards card, so i asked the hostess, she didn’t have a clue so she told me to ask our server. He didn’t really know either, and said there was nothing special that they do for birthdays besides providing excellent service. Anyways, before coming here, i thought this would be a pretty fancy restaurant, but it’s more casual than i thought, it gets pretty loud too. Valet is $ 8, I don’t think there is any self parking available. They brought us some yummy bread and pâté to start while the cheese popovers were being prepared. The popovers were delicious!!! They included a small card that had the recipe for their popovers nuzzled into the stack of popovers. For appetizers we ordered the crabcake, yes it comes with just ONE crabcake. It was ok, nothing to rave about. We also had the tuna tartare that i really liked, it was served with homemade chips. Yum! Too bad there was only like 4 chips. Steaks are served in cast iron skillets. Charred. Not my type of steak. I had the filet, it was ok, i didn’t love it, maybe because it was charred. For sides we had stuffed mushrooms, truffle Mac n cheese, and jalapeño mashed potatoes. Out of the three the mashed potatoes was my favorite. The Mac n cheese had a light truffle flavor, i wish there was more, the stuffed mushrooms were nothing spectacular, i think the cheese on top wasn’t even melted. Our server was really attentive and came by to check on us several times. Our water was always full and table was always clean. For dessert we ordered the cara cara orange crème brûlée and hazelnut chocolate cake with espresso ice cream. I thought the crème brûlée was watery and didn’t care for the orange flavor. My sister in law really liked it though. I thought the hazelnut cake was the winner of the two. They also brought me complimentary brownies for my birthday! They were so good, it had a light crunch on the outside and fudgy in the center. I wish they gave me a recipe for that! haha Overall the food was OK, I wouldn’t come back again, but worth it to try it atleast once.

Right when you step into the restaurant you are being bombarded with the fact that this place is serious about their meat. There are postcards at the hostess area showing a diagram of a cow and the various cuts of meat. The back of the menu shows a detailed layout of the cuts of meat, preparation recommendations etc. The actual menu selection is limited… so basically everything is pointing towards a big focus on STEAK. We ordered the tuna tartare and crabcakes to share and me and my wife split the 40oz porterhouse. The server also brought us some bread and a jar full of(pâté)…as well as their signature popovers. Both were very good. The tuna tartare was amazing but the crab cakes were pretty bleh. When it’s time for the steaks to be served they bring out plates that have been heated(another good sign). The steaks themselves arrive in cast iron skillets. There is a pretty mean char on the steak which i personally like, I know a lot of people don’t so YMMV. The steak itself was what i would call a 3 out of 5… meaning it’s a good steak and what i would expect relative to the restaurant but not particularly great. You can tell the meat is very high quality and the dry aging flavor really comes through; however, the marbling seems to be lacking for something that is rated USDA Prime. All in all it’s a place i would recommend but not a place that deserves going back a second time.

Loves it! Came here for DineLA and it was completely worth it! We went to the bar first to grab a couple of drinks and then sat down to eat. This place was packed for Tuesday night. Granted they have a great happy hour, which I would suggest going to if you are near by. The décor is classy with a bit of flair. I loved the table and chairs, the long bar to just hangout in, the dim lighting. They first gave us this amazing fluffy bread, that kind of tasted like the consistency of a donut, with butter and sprinkled salt. We were then given bread with chicken pâté. The then chose for an appetizer: Smoked Asparagus Agnolotti /Winter Truffle — Parmesan Cream – this was a light dish, and the truffle was overpowering and just the right portion size! Flat Iron Steak Frites /Duck Fat Fries /Roasted Shallot Butter /Fin Herbs— I ended up getting this as a medium rare, granted it was a bit harder to chew, but I am glad i did it, the flavors of the herbs were great! The fries weren’t anything to die for, but I do like thinner fries. Salted Caramel Tart /Ganache /Fleur de Sel /Bourbon Ice Cream– And last but not least, dessert! I enjoyed the ice cream the most, the caramel tart I didn’t expect as much chocolate. Overall, the food was great, the service was fantastic! I definitely wouldn’t mind coming back for happy hour.

I came here with my friends for DineLA. Some tried the DineLA menu, but I ventured outside because the item choices were to small for a group of 7 that we would all be ordering the same items. I set my eyes on the $ 4722oz. medium rare bone in rib eye because of all the pictures I had seen on Unilocal. When I got it, I was in awe of the sheer size of it. My mouth straight up salivated and I was ready to to bite into it. The first bite, WOW, delicious. I kept going at it, still good. A quarter of the way done, I was just tired of eating it even if the crust and rub was delicious. You would think for the price that it wouldn’t be so chewy, but this one was just that and it totally ruined my experience. The taste just didn’t make up for my jaw getting jacked. The bone marrow was okay, if you could get any at all. The caramelized garlic clove was left untouched. Oddly enough, I was really impressed more with the complimentary dishes like the bread with chicken spread, or the fluffy bread(forgot the name). The appetizers also were delectable like the oysters and tuna tartar. Valet also charges $ 8 to park? Why don’t I just keep the $ 8 and park it myself? Ridiculous. And the journey to get here from the east is just ridiculously long with Sunset traffic. Not impressed. 2.5÷5.

Came here for a double date night for DineLA. Stop #3 on the DineLA Tour. It’s a cute place on Sunset and I can see many people coming here for Happy Hour(which there were many people at the bar). Drinks were a bit pricey(about $ 15/drink), but food was pretty good. Def recommend and would go back… all their complementary dishes were practically a meal. Favs were the popovers, chicken liver pâté, smoked asparagus agnolotti, steak, steelhead and panna cotta. Started out with very delish complementary gruyère popovers & chicken liver pâté. I can seriously just eat this and I would be happy. I judge a restaurant by their bread and butter and they passed the test! Bread was nice and warm with a slight toast to it, and the butter was room temp for easy spreading. Starters: — Kusshi Oysters(Tequila-Cranberry Mignonette & Pomegranate Granita): didn’t get to try bc I’m allergic to osyters, but the bf said it wasn’t bad, but would be better with some spice like horshradish or tabasco. — Smoked Asparagus Agnolotti w/winter truffle and Parmesan cream: this dish surprised me! I thought it would be more like regular asparagus, but it was more of a ravioli. The flavors were paired together perfectly and one of my favs! Main dishes: — Wild Caught Steelhead(w/boniato purée, mizuna, and Yuzu buerre blanc): cooked perfectly! The steelhead was moist and tender and the purée was a great balance and complemented the dish. The veggies were a bit salty, but still tasty. — Flat Iron Steak Frites cooked Med-rare(w/duckfat fries, roasted shallot butter and ferbs): steak was cooked beautifully! The fries were okay, a bit salty for my taste. prob due to the parmesan cheese. Would have been even better with truffle. — Grass Fed Braised Short Ribs w/roasted vegetable roots & horseradish: had a small bite and it was very tender and tasty. Friend said it was good, but after a while it was a bit heavy and would have liked some mashed potatoes with it. Dessert: –Tangerine Panna Cotta w/meyer lemon curd and limoncello: fav dessert. it was nice and light to end the meal. — Dulce de Leche Filled Doughnuts w/Tahitian vanilla cream and spiced chocolate: only had a bite, but they were tasty. We couldn’t figure out what if it was a spanish style chocolate, but we figured it was for dipping. — Salted Caramel Tart w/ganache, fleur de sel and Bourbon ice cream: very rich and heavy. a tad sweet for my taste and the bourbon flavor was def a kick in your mouth. — Complementary espresso brownies: not too sweet or dense. They have valet parking for $ 8, but you can find meters as well(2 hour max) from 8a-2a. Found it odd that they only had 1 bathroom(co-ed).

This was my first DINELA experience in 2013! Yay~ Arrived there around 7pm on Tuesday and the place was nearly empty. The bar was poppin’ which might be due to the 5 for 5 menu? Happy hour, I’m guessing– I want to come back and try that out. There is valet parking, but there were many spots open on the street, so we just parked there. Beware– parking meters go past 9pm… So we sat down and ordered a bottle of wine. This guy came over and said he would start us off because our server was busy. He helped us pick a bottle of wine, which was nice. I’m unsure of who our server was because that guy ended up taking our order as well and no one introduced themselves to us afterwards. They started us off with some chicken pâté(which was YUM) and some cheese bread. Reminded me of a larger portion of the Brazilian cheese bread. It was a lot to start off with, but delicious! Here’s what we ordered: — Oysters: tasted fresh but lacked flavor. It wasn’t fishy, but it didn’t taste like anything at all. Was slightly disappointed. — Smoked Asparagus Agnolotti: this was pretty tasty. Heavy cream sauce went well with the cheese bread too! — Short Ribs: was tender and flavorful. I think I realized I don’t care for short ribs very much. The vegetables were cooked nicely. I didn’t taste any horseradish with my short ribs… — Flat Iron Steak: I thought my friends dish was better than mine. The steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. Flavors were all there. — Tangerine Panna Cotta: was light and refreshing. Was a good finish to a heavy meal. — Dulce de Leche Doughnuts: It was good. They were donuts… and tasted like donuts. — Salted caramel Tart: My least favorite. Was a bit too sweet and wasn’t impressive. The chef also gave us some brownie thing(totally blanking on the name) that I thought was pretty tasty. Overall, enjoyed the dinner and wine. Came out to $ 77pp after tax/tip. The only issue was towards the end of the meal, it was almost impossible to wave down our server… or whoever. We waited a really long time to get our check after we finished our desserts and I had to literally swing my arms in the air to get any attention. After they took our cards, someone came by and asked if we needed anything else– more water, etc. Uh, where were you 15 minutes ago? Honestly, if the restaurant was packed, I understand slow/inattentive service. But if a restaurant is half full and there are at least 10 workers standing around talking around the floor, it shouldn’t be so hard to flag someone down. SMH. Notes: — Food was tasty — Workers were friendly and knowledgeable, just slow towards the end of the evening — Loved the inside openness and feel of the restaurant — Single bathroom on the same floor and bigger restrooms downstairs — Valet is $ 8

BLT Steak was outstanding… a great dining experience, and some of the most sensational popovers, and steak, I have ever enjoyed. My only critique(and why I would give it 4 stars, not 5) was that the service felt very rushed — our party of 4 felt like the food came too quickly and we were not given sufficient time to relax and enjoy between courses. They deliver complimentary to your table: — Gruyère Popovers(OUTRAGEOUSLYGOOD!) — Chicken pâté spread with warm, soft excellent bread Appetizers: — Mushroom Tart(average, not great) — Lettuce Wedge(awesome…a must try) Main dish: — Porterhouse(OUTSTANDING, 2nd best only to Mastros) Dessert: — Donuts(incredible) BLT Steak was excellent, and I look forward to going back. Great meal, excellent cocktails, very good service, and reasonable wine corkage($ 25). Other than a rushed meal, a tremendous experience, and a great 4 star restaurant.

I can’t get over the complimentary popovers(delicious bread with the most amazing texture and a gruyère filling) and the cute little cards they give you with the recipes. I asked for extra to keep :) I don’t know if I’ll ever take the time to bake(who am I kidding? I don’t bake ever) but omg such a cute idea. And the chicken liver pâté to go with it? OMG amazed. Ok that was just the beginning/complimentary part of the meal. The spinach salad was great but I thought it had a little too much bacon. My favorite part of my meal was of course the steak… probably not the best steak I’ve ever had, but pretty damn good. As for the sides, the mashed potatoes and creamy spinach were a little too rich for my liking, but the stuffed mushrooms were aight. And omg for dessert we had cinnamon sugar doughnuts and the dark chocolate tart… I could only take one bite of each because wow. So rich. It’s a loud restaurant. Fun, dark, modern. Great for groups or «friend» dates. You know… those dates where you’re just getting to know someone and you want to go somewhere a little upscale but not somewhere that makes you feel like you’re awkwardly a couple already… Make sense? Haha. anyway, BLT Steak is awesome.

From start to finish, I love everything about BLT Steak. Let’s begin: — Popover — Chicken pâté spread with bread ** Both are free dishes that comes with your meal. OMG, I’d pay for the popover and pâté anytime. I’m not a big bread person, but the popover is so soft and fluffy, I just carb overload myself with that. Main dish: — Ribeye Steak — Bone marrow — Stuffed mushroom ** Aside from Mastro’s, this is one of the best piece of steak in LA. Desserts: — I don’t care anymore. *burpp* Can I have another popover?

DineLA 2012($ 45 for dinner): 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because this was my favorite overall 2012 dineLA experience! This place has good, solid food with very generous portion sizes. Lots of freebies also! Complimentary goodies: — Chicken Liver Pâté: So freakin’ good!!! I wished they gave me more bread, I could’ve consumed all that pâté as a meal! — Popovers: Also yummy… and large. Nice touch that they gave you the recipe as well. — Brownies(for dessert): very sweet! too stuffed by the end of the meal to truly enjoy it. DineLA choices: — Oysters: fresh & light — Steak frites(medium): a large piece of steak(already cut for you — how nice of them!), and the mountain of crispy fries were even better! (My friend got the pork chops and I remember that being super good as well) — Smores: mmmMmm… i love smores & loved this variation of it! I’ve been reading about how some places skimp on their portions during DineLA but definitely not this place! The atmosphere is great for a date or a gathering of friends. Parking: FREE&EASY in WeHo!!! Who would’ve thunk? Yep, there is a lot across the street & also a lot a couple of stores down on the same side as BLT steak that offers free parking(totally within walking distance). Look for the signs for«Sunset Plaza» parking!

Absolutely delicious and wonderful experience. We came for a friends birthday last night. We got the private room in the back. It usually has a minimum of $ 1500 but I guess it was talked down to somewhere around $ 1000-$ 1100? The room was great, it was next to the wine and had sliding doors that would close to block out the restaurant noise. We sat about 14 people here. I believe our servers name was Daniel. He was perfect, he appeared the moment another guest arrived and handed out menus and went over everything with us. I asked him to recommend a drink and he brought this: the Lavender Sidecar. I dont know exactly whats in it, but I tasted hints of Blackberry. If I hadnt already had Syrah, I probably would have drank 10 of these delicious babies! I believe it was $ 14 for the cocktail and a class of Syrah was $ 15. The complimentary toast and chicken pâté were incredible. We got seconds. Then the complimentary popovers arrived! Crisp on the outside and super warm on the inside… Its heaven with the sea salt, butter and a little pâté. Yes, I know; a heart attack waiting to happen lol! Now, on to the meal: Onion Rings: Super sweet and crispy and light Hen of the Woods Mushroom: Bunches of tender little mushrooms, extra good with a little marrow on top! Stuffed Mushrooms: Flavorful and topped with cheese Grilled Asparagus: Tender Lobster Mashed Potato: Yummy, but not worth the price… Not memorable. Gruyère Mac & Cheese: Really good I got the 14oz New York Strip($ 39) rare and the temperature was perfect . It came with a little salad. Delicious and great flavor. I got the Peppercorn sauce on the side but it was too sweet; the steak was so good though, no sauce needed. My friend got the 22oz Bone-In Ribeye($ 47) , medium rare. Very flavorful, tender and juicy. It came with complimentary Bone Marrow and Roasted Garlic Bulb. The Marrow was wonderful! Next time, Im going to stock up on Lavender Sidecars and maybe try the Porterhouse for 2! Everything was superb here, even the valet! I would recommend this place over Mortons or Ruths Chris. The steaks and sides and drinks are somewhat similar between them, but at least at BLT they dont nickel and dime you since youll be spending alot of money anyways! They gave us refills on the free bread, pâté, popovers and brought extra sides! mMm…

***BLT Steak is pricey, but their dineLA menu is a good value that features strong starters, entrees and desserts*** I first tried BLT Steak for dineLA a few years ago and it was a good experience. We tried it again for dineLA and BLT Steak continues to be a good dineLA option(good food and a nice value). BLT Steak provided two great complimentary items to start. The first was crisp toasts with a warm, creamy and very flavorful chicken pâté. Sometimes, chicken pâté can be too strong, but they added enough spice to balance it out. The other complimentary item was a warm gruyère popover. Similar in style to Yorkshire pudding, the popover was hollow and airy on the inside with a great crispy and light crust. The popover was warm and flavorful(the gruyère flavor was good and not overpowering). The popover went well with butter. I started with the hand cut filet tartare, which was garnished with a radish salad, a sauce gribiche and grilled toasts. The tartare was very flavorful on its own. The meat was moist and good while the seasoning was similar to that of a tuna tartare(well seasoned with a little bit of a kick). The sauce gribiche seemed to be a mustard sauce mixed with hard boiled egg and it was good. I liked the crisp texture the radishes provided and the toasts were crispy and not too buttery. For my entrée, I paid the supplemental charge for the Wagyu beef coulotte, which came with fingerling potatoes, a red wine sauce and horseradish cream. The Wagyu beef had a good crispy outside bark and a good flavor. It had a moist center, but it was more like a roast than a steak. It had similarities to hanger steak as well. I felt the New York Strip they featured on my previous dineLA visit was significantly better and it did not require a supplemental charge. The red wine sauce was good as was the horseradish cream(noticeable horseradish flavor but not too strong). The fingerling potatoes were okay. We also ordered a side of their stuffed mushrooms and those were just okay as well(the cheese topped mushrooms were something you could easily find elsewhere). The desserts were good. I went with the spiced carrot cake, which was topped with cream cheese ice cream. The carrot cake was a generous portion and it had a great sweet carrot flavor as well as good moistness. The ice cream was a little melted, but it was creamy and had a very good cream cheese flavor. My friend had the cardamom panna cotta, which was topped with crunchy almonds and Asian pears. I really liked the flavor of the panna cotta and all of the garnishes. The panna cotta was creamy, but I prefer a panna cotta that is a little more wobbly. They also added brownies at the end; they were freshly made and were best when eaten warm since they had a very gooey and chocolatey center. Service was good. We seemed to be waited on by the manager and she was personable, polite and helpful. The food came out at a good pace. I think with places like this that are heavy on the salt side, the servers do need to be more aware of water glasses getting low. Prices are high for their regular menu(like any other high-end steakhouse), but their dineLA menu is a good value. In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant is very loud and dark(masculine décor and more modern than most expensive a la carte steakhouses). I am not sure if I would try BLT Steak for a regular dinner since it may not be worth the high prices, but come October and January/February, BLT Steak seems like one of the better options for dineLA Restaurant Week. Parking is hard to find here so the $ 8 valet might be your best option.

I have to admit that the reason we ended up going to this place was because I couldn’t get a reservation at The Little Door for DineLA… became frantic. Tried getting reservations at other places we wanted to go but were all booked… and became even more frantic. And then finally settling on this place as a choice between this place and Morton’s Steakhouse, since the DineLA menu seemed more unique here. So glad we ended up coming here. The restaurant’s ambiance gave itself an air of trendy and classy, but not overwhelmingly fancy. I liked it. That was already a good sign to me. After reading other reviews, I could not wait to try the chicken pâté and bread they provided as complimentary to your meal. Wow, the pâté was so smooth and flavorful that we asked for more bread… and then later in the meal asked for the pâté again after they had taken it away. Additionally, I heard about these so-called pop-overs that everyone was raving about, which were also included in your meal. In my mind, I initially imagined a small round bread shaped like a ball. Boy, was I wrong when I saw these massive round pieces of bread that look like they«popped over» the pan they baked it in. You can tell that they come out fresh and right out of the oven ’cause they’re still piping hot and fluffy when you open them up. They remind me of hot air balloons. Delicious, fluffy on the inside yet crisp on the outside edible hot air balloons, with a hint of cheese. They even provide the recipe! I am so making these amazing things at home! I ended up eating one and a half of those yummy balloons. As part of the DineLA menu, I started off with the Cast-Iron Mussels appetizer. They gave me a LOT of mussels, and they were wonderful! The seafood taste wasn’t overwhelming my taste buds, which is a sign of fresh and well-marinated seafood. There were slices of chorizo in the dish as well, but I thought they could have been left out just because they didn’t really bring anything to the mix, not that they were bad on their own, of course. Next came the main course, which was an 8 oz. filet mignon crusted with crab meat and a side of asparagus all united with a Bearnaise sauce. My filet was medium-rare just the way I ordered, and oh my goodness did it melt in my mouth. The meat was so tender and flavorful I had to prevent myself from devouring the entire thing like an animal. The crab topping didn’t take away or add anything really significant to the steak too, so that could have also been done away with and still work out fine. I’m assuming they did it just to make their menu«fancier,» which is totally okay with me. The more they put into their meal, the more value it is for me. The Bearnaise complimented both the steak and the asparagus, and as such helped tie the plate together masterfully. Finally came the dessert. I ordered the Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts with Espresso Ice Cream. Now before you ask why I ordered doughnuts at a restaurant like this, let me tell you that those were some pretty awesome doughnuts. They had a warm and dough-y interior that worked perfectly with the fried and cinnamon-y exterior. So good! AND you get two of them! The espresso ice cream also had a nice, coffee flavor to it as well and wasn’t too sweet. I tried the carrot cake with ginger ice cream and the brownie as well since my friends had ordered them. All good! My experience here was definitely memorable. I couldn’t think of a time where something had detracted from our dinner, whether it be environment, food, or service, which says a lot about the quality of this restaurant. Well, my one small quip is the fact that they only had valet parking, but that’s just me being a budget-minded(broke) college kid hoping to find a way to save 8 bucks.
