I went to the Museum this past weekend. The place is run by an all volunteer dedicated crew. Aside from the exhibits and toys trains they have a Trolley and Train Ride. I took it because of the time of season, wanted to see the Fall foliage and enjoy the weather. It’s fun for children and adults alike. It takes you to an old depot that looks right out of an old movie set. The benches and equipment are from the turn of the last Century. The telegraph and Morse code was going on while we were there. The train ride are from May to October. They have a Christmas Trolley from Nov to Dec. Check it out.

First of all, your ticket is valid for both the museum and for the neighboring Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. When you purchase your ticket, you are to choose the hour of your departure; only a particular number of seats are available for each departure. Then you take a trolley ride to Middleton station. From there you transfer to a train ride to the R &GVRR Museum. At the museum, a tour guide explains the inside of the Independence station and the exhibits in the two pieces of rolling stock. In the Merchants Despatch reefer, one learns of the transport of cold storage foods and the significance of the manufacturer. In the Lackawana baggage car, there are various railroad artifacts. Back at the NY M of Transportation, there are trolleys in various stages of reconstruction, a model railroad exhibit, and a number of rail related artifacts exhibits.
