Stop&Shop

When they opened to October 2013 I was a regular customer here. They had an awesome store manager named Joe C. but he got transferred to the New City location. They always had a lot of produce, seafood and meat at reduced prices. The neighborhood is not necessarily low income, the cost to live in the area went up with the taxes and other things that NY gets you for and people cannot afford the prices that Stop and Shop charges so a lot of items get reduce before they end up in the dumpster. I never had a problem with any of the employees here, all seemed nice and competent… except for the appetizing staff that appeared a bit on the relaxed side. I almost always used the «self check out» line because it was easier and there was never a wait. nIne times out of ten I needed help from the front end gal anyway because something did not scan correctly or they needed to check the reduced item because there were many I purchased. The bottle redemption room here was always a horror and so many people with carts of containers to redeem. Plus, the smell was so nasty, especially in the summer. The big guy named Eddie who rounded up the carts was always so cheerful and nice to me when he would see hubby and me with our dogs.

I’ve been a customer here for 2 years almost and it seems like the store has gone to hell rather quickly.
There are 14 registers, maybe all of 2 that I have seen open ever, even during peak hours. The people that bag your groceries have no idea how to properly do it, putting cold things in with warm things, produce, eggs and bread on the bottoms of heavy bags and also not double bagging things so that your bags rip right through before you get them home. The self checkout registers seemingly break every single time I try to use them or there is an issue with their scales when trying to weigh the produce. The employees could not give less than two shits and SLOWLY walk your way with an attitude that they actually have to do work. Sometimes they don’t even bother walking over unless you aggressively summon them over, breaking up their social hour, at which point they act like you’re inconveniencing them. Great attitudes.
Deli counter employees are poorly trained, slow and really really stupid. Openly cursing in front of customers while talking about the «pussy they got last night» or other inappropriate things, getting orders insanely screwed up, and just genereally understaffed at the busiest times of the day. They’ve screwed up my order more times than i can count.
The produce is disgusting. Plain and simple.
The store is relatively clean, but that’s not really saying much for anything else. I’m moving in a few weeks and actively cannot wait to never step inside this place again. The store manager should be ashamed of themself for such a shitty run store. Avoid this place at all costs.
