I brought home a ½ dozen cupcakes to sample with my family. The cupcakes were interesting combinations of flavors and icings and were all good, but not great. I personally thought the cupcakes were a tad overcooked which causes them to be drier and a little tough. Maybe this was intentional and helps them hold up to frosting, filling, drizzling, etc. I’ve had better, but I wouldn’t turn one down. ;)

This location is really bare bones. Especially since none of the cupcakes are made on premise. I feel like I’m more at a bridal shop than a bakery. I like my cupcakes with the filling inside. When I kept asking the preppy young lady to describe the cupcake, she looked like she was starting to get annoyed with me. I think they should write the description of each cupcake on the label… just saying. The cupcake tasted okay, but I felt that for nearly three dollars a piece, the cake was quite dry. However, I am willing to give the Glastonbury location a chance. Since those cupcakes are made on premise, I hear they are better tasting.

Very tasty cupcakes and cakes. You get for what you pay for — quality confections.

Friendly service. Get their early for the best selection and quality. By the end of the day the cupcake selection is sparse and the usually scrumptious cupcake dries out.

Sugarbelle was, at one time, my favorite cupcake bakery in Connecticut: «My tastebuds did not truly know love at first bite until they met the intoxicating combination of the cream cheese frosting coupled with the red velvet cupcake from Sugarbelle in Glastonbury, CT»(West Hartford Food Critic, 2009) — that’s me Naturally, I was THRILLED to hear that they were opening up a West Hartford Center location so I wouldn’t have to make the trip to Glastonbury. I went in shortly after they opened, picked up a Chocolate Raspberry and Chocolate Peanut Butter. While they were good in flavor, they were dry and nothing like the moist beauties I had when I visited the Glastonbury location. Supposedly the cupcakes from this location are shipped from the Glastonbury bakery daily, so of course I expected the same quality of cupcakes. Thinking it might have been an off-day for them I gave ‘em another go earlier this week when I stopped in and picked up a Key Lime and Red Velvet. Again, they were dry! The Red Velvet was good, but not even close to my description above from years ago, not what I remembered it tasting like. I’m wondering if the transport process dries them out, if ingredients had changed, or what else is different because it’s just not the same. It would be interesting to see if things are different in the Glastonbury location, as admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve been. I might give them another chance, but I don’t know. I’ve been to bakeries recently that charged less for cupcakes almost twice the size and twice as moist and tasty. $ 2.75 each for cupcakes on the small-ish side here. Same guy has been there both times I’ve gone and he’s always been super friendly and helpful. The store is very small and is literally a white room with a cupcake display and a register to pay, not much in the way of décor.
