OK, so I need to say off the bat that I haven’t eaten here so my 1* review is curious at best. On two different occasions I have gone to this restaurant hoping to get a kebab and two different times I ended up eating somewhere else instead because I was out of time. This place has hours posted on it’s windows suggesting that they are now closed between 2 and 4. I would modify Unilocal’s hours regarding this site if the two times I went there during the past month they actually were open during their«new hours.» Despite claiming they are open from 11 – 2 for lunch, you should simply not expect to dine here regardless of hour. I have twice driven miles out of my way during their operation hours and twice felt like a chump for not listening to all the other people reviewing this site who have had the exact same experience I have when trying to pay these people to eat lunch here. I wanted to give this place a good review. I had found this place on google maps before moving to the area as a place I would love to visit. If you look at my other reviews you will find an overwhelming trend in favour of inexpensive meats. Despite all of these factors, this place simply is too inept to keep their doors open during standard lunch hours(this week I was there on a Wednesday at 12:30pm.). There can be no two ways around it: this business doesn’t have a desire to survive. Look at the numerous other claims of people who want to support this business and are turned away by ownership unwilling to keep the doors unlocked during regular hours, if they gave the slightest crap about retaining a business they’d hire someone to watch over their shop, instead they let hopeful meat-hungry patrons like myself say DON’T BOTHERGOINGHERE, YOU’D BEBETTEROFFEATINGROLLERMEATSFROMTHEKUM N GO.

This is really sad that I have to write this review and give it one star. I have never eaten in this restaurant, but not because I haven’t tried. More on that later. I have eaten their food at Des Moines world food festival(Best event in Des Moines). They were the best samosas I’ve eaten ever! So I had to try the rest of their menu. So back to the beginning it’s sad that I’ve not had the opportunity to eat these delicious pockets of pure and utter orgasmic enjoyment again. I have taken the trek to this restaurant during their self posted«operating hours» not once, not twice but THREE Times and they are never open! Why not call ahead? I have no one has ever answered. Please fix your hours so I can again enjoy the best thing that has hit my mouth since discovering bubblegum ice cream when I was 5!

This place is pretty much never open during their posted hours. Food is ok when they are there. Call ahead or skip the drive.

I wish I could review Kabab House for their food, but unfortunately, I cannot. I had been craving a gyro for several days, so I googled«gyros in West Des Moines» and discovered Kabab House. I made a point to drive out of my way to go to the restaurant, and they were CLOSED, even though their listed operating hours said they should have been open. I called the restaurant a few hours later to see if they might have just opened late, but they still did not answer. I think this is terrible customer service, and I wasted my time driving there! I would have been more understanding if there was a note on the door or even a recorded message saying the restaurant was closed when I called. Very disappointing!

The best gyros ever! I would give them 5 stars just for how nice the owner and his wife are. I would really like for them to adopt me!

I tried their food at their booth at the downtown art festival. It was good(but to be fair, I was hungry, been walking around for hours, had enjoyed about 4 beers and it was almost 10 pm. About anything would be good at that point. The owners were working the stand, and giving out coupons to go to their restaurant. I thought that was a good plan to grow their biz., they were making an effort. So when I saw their groupon, I snatched one up. Well, it seems like this place is more concerned about food stands at events than they are about their restaurant. I literally tried to go there 3 times(on weekends each time) and they were closed. Literally 3 times. A sign in the window said, closed, Saturday and Sunday — see at the itialian fest, or see you at world food fest or what ever. Then, thinking I’d outsmart their«closed door policy» I went their on a Tuesday last week — 5:30 pm. This time they were closed, again, and the only sign in the window was how they would not be honoring their groupon any more. No other explanation for being closed when their hours sign said they should be open. Good greif! You make an effort to introduce people to your food by using a groupon, and serving food at all if these events where people buy food from vendors(and you hand out coupons to your restaurant) and then never have your restaurant open for people to spend their money with you. That’s some weak sauce man. Pretty weak.

I wish I could give this restaurant a positive review. Prior to going there I called their phone # about 5 times on different days during their business hours and never got an answer. This made me wonder if they were still in business. Since I had purchased a group on and went on a Saturday after 11 to try the place out(the hours on the group on provided by the restaurant.) The restaurant was closed, with no information about why. We attempted to call them and left a voicemail but they never responded to our request for information. Then, the next day they post that they will not honor the Group On. What a hassle since I had driven across town to go there. I won’t be tasting their food because of this so I must base my experience on the difficulty of these interactions and my dissatisfaction with their decision not to honor the Group On deal they signed up for.

Just to let everyone know who may have purchased a Groupon, the business has spontaneously decided to no longer accept valid, unexpired Groupons. My husband and I planned to try the Kebab House for lunch with our Groupon, and upon arriving were told the business decided not to accept them as of last week, although the deal does not expire until October. The person working there just said to contact Groupon to get a refund, which I am trying to do, and offered no other help. We will not be returning, and highly recommend some other great(and better priced) Indian food restaurants in the Des Moines metro like Kurry Xpress and Namaste instead!

We love Indian food and have visited hundreds of Indian restaurants around the country. Wow this place is bad. Des Moines doesn’t have much to choose from when it comes to Indian food but everything in town is way better than this. There were eight choices on the buffet including two pans of rice. The foil pans had marks up the side that clearly showed how these leftovers had been recycled from previous days The food was cold watery and soggy. We literally took two bites each, looked at each other and said«let’s get the hell out of here». — something I haven’t done in years!

My sister and I visited today because we had a Groupon for the Indian buffet and it was delicious! Would recommend and try again. The owner and staff were also very friendly and helpful.

I so wanted to like this place… but the food really isn’t very good. They had a buffet which had about six dishes but honestly none of them were very good nor authentic. They had a platter of tandoori chicken which was far from authentic. Tandoori chicken is not supposed to be swimming in a tomato sauce. It was closer to Italian than Indian. Their chicken curry was hot(spicy) but the chicken was dry. They served naan, but it was not real naan. It was a flat bread that they had bought from Trader Joes that they warmed on the griddle. The most authentic thing there was the Indian fried cheese balls for dessert which were decent. Honestly the best thing on the buffet was a platter of brownies that the owner had made and set next to the rest of the«Indian» food. I looked on the a la carte menu hoping to order something more authentic, but the menu was a weird mix of asian/greek/indian fusion. They had a teriyaki gyro, and then next to it they had spanakopita. Very strange really. The owners were very nice, I feel bad writing this review but I have to be honest. I would rather go to Kurry Express or even Namaste before coming back here.

Food was good, samosa are great. Not a big fan of the tandoori kabobs or the gyros, the flavor isn’t what I’m normally used to and the pita breaks. The owners are real nice.

I’m not an expert at Mediterranean /Indian food but I thought the food was pretty good. I got the regular Gyro and my brother got the Tandoori chicken Kabab and a side of season fries. Both dishes were really good tastes fresh and flavorful. The kabab was a little too tomato-y for my taste but I guess it’s suppose to be like that. The flat bread was toasted very nicely and wasn’t too soggy even when the juices were going into it. Season fries were very good and crispy. The owner(I think) was very nice and kept good attention to us. I’ll be going there again somtime.

Like other reviews, we had extremely slow service. Cook was only working on one order at a time, ovbously the owners have no experience in working a kitchen at a resturaunt. How does it take 30 min. to shave the heuro meat and cook a chicken kabab? Food was OK, nothing special. Not worth the wait or high price for what you get.

This place was really good. Me and my fiancé went here last night and the food was delicious. We are from Cali and we eat a lot of Mediterranean and Indian food at the big city. We are always disappointed by places here in Des Moines. But this place did not disappoint. Exceeded our expectations. Not to mention the owners were so nice and friendly. We came in at 8:50 pm they were ready to close and cleaned up but they still reopened their kitchen to serve us dinner. We will be back here for sure.

So terrible. I waited for over an hour for my Satan kebab, or whatever they called it. It was just so so. The service was close to the worst I’ve ever seen. I hate to say it, but it’s almost as if the owner had zero experience before opening this place. I hope they get their act together, because with some help/luck this place could succeed.

he food was delicious and flavorful! but it was on the pricey side for a low-scale restaurant. I had excellent customer service with employees that were personable and friendly. There are also many items to choose from on the menu. I did not have to wait long for my food. The portion sizes should be a little larger and it would be nice for the restaurant to have an atmosphere that matches their prices or vice versa. Liked: Food, Service Disliked: Atmosphere, Value

Great Kebab. the money we spent was well worth it. very quaint, new place ina strip center at 60th and ashworth in west des moines. this is the first kebab i have had in des moines,(it is the only place i know of that sells kebab) and it was wonderful. the fries were exceptional, and the two flavors of kebab were super delicious. i can’t wait to go back to try something else.
