Coming from the South West trust me we know great BBQ. Jethros BBQ. After a long drive across the country I took Unilocal’s advice and tried this place. I pulled off the freeway and drove around a golf course to find this place tucked in a newer looking strip mall. I got the 4 smoked meat mixed. The take out girl was really nice. I said just throw whatever in there with brisket. And got her favorite mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. She threw in a variety of sauces. The sauces especially the hot one were great. The meat… Well it was ok. Kind of bland and really fatty, I was really expecting a lot better. Sausage was dry as a bone and tough to eat. Mac and Cheese was really runny. Not that great at all. I was really expecting a lot better for Iowa BBQ. Next time i am in Des Moines I will just skip this place.

The food is served faster than any restaurant I’ve ever been to. Every time I go there the food is literally in front of you within five minutes after placing your order. The food is really good. The staff is incredibly friendly and clearly the kitchen staff has it going.

Great Bar-B-Que!!! Also, the bartender was really cool along with his mother which was sitting next to me at the bar. I like the atmosphere and the patio here. This location is much better than the Drake location.

We came here for our monthly dinner and I was very impressed. I liked the menu set up and the look of the restaurant. It was very clean and the service was amazing. One thing I don’t get about the restaurant is why they have jambalaya and BBQ at the same place but I think it works OK. I got the chicken and sausage gumbo, and it was one of the best gumbo dishes that I have had but the sausage was not very good. It wasn’t like smoked sausage it was more like squished together sausage almost like hotdogs. We also got hot wings and onion rings, both half sized and from the pictures that I will put on here they look like full sized appetizers. The boneless wings also weren’t like wings they were like chicken strips. I also thought that the onion rings were too bulky but they both tasted good. As I said the service was great and they were very well-prepared and very nice. I will definitely be visiting this place more often.

I love the juicy shaved smoked turkey, huge crispy pork tenderloin, smokey beans, and spicy cream corn. My kids eat the ribs every time we go.

Ordered the dinner for two with ribs, brisket and pulled pork. All of the meat was cooked fine, but I was unimpressed with the smoke flavor. I expected more smokey flavor in the que. The sides were AMAZING! The best side of any BBQ place i have been to is the jalapeño creamed corn. I still dream of how good it was. also, went with baked beans, coleslaw and fries. All in all it was a great place and I would definitely go back. The que was on point, but the sides take the cake,. Even purchased some sauce to bring home.

Worst Food Ever!!! As a Louisiana native I was excited to try this place. BIGMISTAKE!!! The jambalaya is nothing like any jambalaya I’ve ever seen or tasted. The etoufeé was bland and thick. The red beans and rice had a strange flavor. Gumbo is typically a soup but this gumbo was thick and creamy. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Love their food. Been there for breakfast and dinner. Both were great. Good, honest and fresh. I’ll be back again and again. Big menu too, but you really have to try the BBQ pork.

Jethro’s is okay. There are better BBQ places in town. Love their wings. The rest is fair to good. Huge portions.

BESTWINGSINTHECITY! Wings here are smoked and juicy, juicy!!! Way better than Buffalo Wild Wings and way better than Hurricane Wings by the mall… Because they flash fry frozen wings and Jethros are smoked which makes them the juiciest wings in town! The wings are greasy… They are juicy because they are smoked and not frozen flash fried crispy grossness. I recommend the BBQ rub on ur wings! Best waffle fries ever. Period. End of story! All the food is homemade and you cannot beat the homemade ranch dressing… I could drink it its so good! I also had Jethros cater my wedding! Best catered food ever! Food was hot and delicious as always, because the food is not made from a box or frozen container… It’s made in house. Can’t beat it! The wait staff is the best! Kudos to their hard work because when it’s busy… It’s busy and they work super hard to keep the glasses full, food served and the atmosphere friendly! Another recommendation… The Cajun blackened catfish is delicious, you won’t regret it. So good with the lemon butter sauce too! If you’ve never been here… You need to go, you won’t regret the smoked meats, wings or Cajun food… Did I mention the cornbread muffins… Again… Totally worth the wait if it’s busy!

Pros: Atmosphere, drinks, portions, and wings. Cons: jambalaya, and anything BBQ. Been here several times. One thing I learned was order the wings and a drink and you will be a happy camper. Order anything else and you will ask yourself why you gave the other food another chance. Their smoked meats are a joke. Doesn’t taste smoked and just oversized portions with no flavor. A BBQ place can’t just rely on their sauces at the table to add flavor because their cooks don’t know how to season meat and properly smoke it. So 2.5 stars for meats, 3 stars for sides, 3.5 stars for wings, and 4 stars for atmosphere. I would come back again or order wings to go. Good place for groups and portions will leave you full for days. Just don’t expect quality BBQ.

Love this place. It is a go to for our family. They have the speediest service I have ever seen and the food is awesome! We have heard about their brunch and that is it awesome but we still need to make it in for that. Great place.

The food was pretty good. I ordered eggs, toast, sausage and hash browns. Be ready to eat a lot because they provide huge portions on large plates! My friend ordered the breakfast quesadillas, and it looked delicious! I would order that next time.

For all the glitz and glamour my ribs had little taste and were rather tough off the bone. I love BBQ and give this place a C. It’s average. Sorry but it is. I did love the friend pickles. That’s a great way to start a meal. But then why don’t we get the option of having ribs with the three meat meal? They aint that great. I have had the chicken before. Loved it. Loved the Mac and Cheese. Loved the corn. But the ribs. Come on lets get these ribs a little more tender, with a little more smoked flavor and a little better rub. I’ll come back but not for the ribs.

I’ve been here a few times, and I would say that the BBQ is adequate. My speed for coming here would be to grab a beer from their solid menu, and get a lunch special or something you can slather in BBQ sauce and not think to much about. I’ve had their pulled pork, many of their sides, and their cajun sampler. The only thing that jumped off the plate at me was their jalapeño creamed corn, which was bomb. 3 Stars.

Nothing felt quite as good as the Drake location but that could just be personal bias. The place just feels more chain-y and less local(which is what will happen with expansion). Still, the food was great and that’s what really matters. My gut was feeling the gumbo, so I loaded up on chicken, sausage, and rice. Portions were more than generous. When my plate arrived I didn’t expect to come close to finishing it(but my phatass self devoured the whole thing). Service was slow. I was part of a larger group, which automatically makes things weird, but after constantly checking in on us as we were waiting for people, there was a huge delay before our orders were actually taken. I’ll go back and try out the jambalaya, which they’ve apparently altered and is supposed to be great, but my heart will remain with the OG Jethro’s.

Definitely the place to get your MEATZ on! I dined here with a friend who insisted we go to Jethro’s since I still haven’t been to one. You don’t have to twist my arm, just dangle some smoked meat in front of my face and I’m there. Jethro’s was packed at 5:30pm on a weeknight. Yes. I am an old lady and eat at the senior citizen dining hour. But there are advantages, as we snagged one of the last open tables. Service was super speedy. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I got the BBQ pork sandwich complete with waffle fries. And we attempted to make a dent in a half order of onion rings. The half order could have fed an entire girl scout troop!!! I don’t even want to know what a full order consists of. The value is insane, as the portions are massive. Consider sharing. Or at least fast for 16 hours before dining here.

Great food the food is spot on ! I had the Creole pasta and my partner had the Cajun sampler, both were really delicious, spicy and full of flavor ! The corn muffin is sweet and scrumptious ! The service is just ok. I wish they would be more friendly.
