Pretty simple, folks! Ordered for delivery. Asked the gal on the phone to have the delivery person text upon arrival instead of knocking, since we have a new sleeping baby and an excitable dog. She said she was the delivery person and that wouldn’t be a problem. An hour later, we get a very bold knock on the door! I asked her«Weren’t you supposed to text?» She didn’t apologize, just said«oh yeah» and laughed it off. Not funny if you ask me. The portions are not very big. The crabmeat rangoons did not have much filling. Will not be ordering from here again in any capacity.

Just had lunch here with a coworker. They serve buffet for lunch in addition to regular menu items. For $ 7.50 I couldn’t resist but to get the buffet because I wanted to try several dishes. Hot and sour soup was good, crab rangoon was great, and the regular dish items were about 3 star. Some of the options were broccoli beef, Mongolian beef, garlic chicken, general chicken, sesame chicken, lo mein, and several others. I would give 3.5 stars but there are no halves on Unilocal.I’ll have to try a regular menu item next time to see if I like it better than the buffet options because I could tell the potential was there as all my vegetables were bright and not overcooked as it’s common in other places where I get a buffet. So I’ll be back to try something else, but it was nothing great that I would want to keep coming back to.

Had the lunch buffet. Very affordable at $ 7.95, angry chicken was tasty and spicy. My counterpart got the phở, the broth pre-seasoning was delicious and full of flavor.

Stopped by here for a quick lunch and ordered the combination fried rice which came with beef, chicken, shrimp, and pork. There was a lot of rice for $ 10 and the amount of protein was kind of low which was disappointing. The shrimp were large in size so I enjoyed them the most. The fried rice tasted good and had alot of flavor, though I wish it would have been a little more cooked… like with a more burnt/crispier texture. The other dishes were quite pricey(like $ 12-$ 14) compared to other Chinese restaurants so just a heads up in case you’re looking for cheaper Chinese. My girlfriend ordered the phở which is not on the menu itself so you’ll just need to ask for it. The noodles weren’t the typical phở noodles but everything else tasted pretty good. The bowl was a good size to fit all the stuff that comes with phở too. Overall, I’d probably won’t be in a hurry to come back but if I’m near the area and wanted some Chinese that is a bit higher quality than Panda Express then I may stop by here.

Excellent! We just went for the first time and will definitely be back. Some of the best egg rolls and lo mein I’ve had.

This was our first time trying iron wok, I have to admit that at first I thought it was going to be a bust, the menu posted on Unilocal is nowhere near accurate, they have no Won Ton soup, or quite a few of the other dishes listed, but we had the egg drop soup, it was pretty good, lots of flavor from all the veggies that was in it, but it wasn’t really as thick as egg drop soup I’m used to, but it wasn’t bad at all, next came the egg rolls, they have a thin crispy wrapper, and the veggies inside were still pretty crisp and had a good bite, they were very good, pork fried rice was next, it was excellent! Lots of flavor, not just salty, but flavorful, the rice was cooked perfectly and not mushy, good size chunks of pork that were fried just right with peas, carrots and egg and onions, the sesame chicken was absolutely awesome! and I don’t really care for sesame chicken, but this was great, the chicken was tender and juicy in alight batter and the sauce was not really overpowering, but to me the star of the show was the Beef Lo Mein! The noodles were done perfect, lots of meat, crisp veggies and the flavor was incredible! Best Lo Mein I’ve had in Des Moines! I will definitely stop in again!

Just had dinner at the iron wok and everything was delicious. We ordered pad Thai, combination fried rice and angry combo. The shrimp in the rice and angry combo where big and not over cooked. We also had the eggrolls. I usually don’t eat them in Chinese restaurants because there always horrible, but not these, I really like them. I would recommend you check this place out. You’ll be glad you did, just like we were !!

Our favorite Chinese in Des Moines. Jalapeño Rangoons and egg rolls are delicious! Favorite entrees are pad thai and mongolian beef. Everything has been good!

In West Des Moines for work. Had dinner with an old friend and he suggested Iron Wok. Great choice! The best Sesame Chicken I have ever tasted! If you want a really good Chinese meal this is the place to go. Oh, and come hungry because you will leave full!

Pretty average strip mall Chinese. Not bad, not great, but decent, and a good value for the price.

Just had dinner here. It’s a typical strip mall restaurant atmosphere~ no frills. The food is good. The spring rolls and crab/cream cheese rangoons are excellent! I was a little disappointed that a $ 2.50 hot tea consisted of a cup of hot water and a Lipton tea bag. When I eat Asian food, I prefer a tea pot, with loose green tea. I must have spaced it off when I ordered my shrimp and snow peas because I did not recall seeing one of those red peppers on the menu. When the order came, I saw red peppers in the dish. I don’t like anything spicy. I ate it anyway, since it was a medium spicy. We had some really good fried rice with it and my sister ordered lemon chicken. Hers was good! The portions are enough for two people, so I am lucky that I get her leftovers tomorrow. lol. Service: Our waiter must have been brand new, or something. He was quiet and had no personaity, at all. He did check back with us several times to see if we needed anything, which was nice. As we were leaving, a loud voice yelled, «Good Night!» I looked back to see who said that and it was him! I told my sister that that must have been his twin brother– lol. That was the most personality we saw from him all night! Anyway, overall– good food.

Loses a review for no delivery on a Monday night at 6pm. Reminds me of Chicago style Chinese food. Very good! Big portions. Easily one meal is large enough for two or three people.

I really wanted to love this place. We’ve been looking for a new«regular» place to go without much luck. They were friendly on the phone — we ordered food for pick up — and the prices seemed reasonable. We ordered the dinner for two, husband had general’s chicken, and I ordered sesame chicken. It came with two appetizers(rangoon or egg roll) and egg drop soup. We got home and were excited to crack into the food. Very large portions! Husband liked his, but I was disappointed in mine. It was pretty dry, the meat seemed overcooked and it was downright chewy. The rice was pretty dry, too. The rangoons were good, the soup was«ok», but I think we’ll keep looking for our go-to Chinese takeoue place…

The best Chinese restaurant in the Des Moines metro area. The food by far makes up for what the ambiance lacks. The vegetables in every dish are fresh and crisp-not overcooked and drowned in heavy sauce like the usual Chinese restaurant fare. The eggrolls are amazing and I highly recommend the jalepeno rangoons.

I might be slightly biased, but dang I love this place. The highlights: (1) Fresh, delicious food. Their cook is really top-notch, and has been cooking for years and years. They have all the classics of Chinese American cooking, along with a few of their specialties(such as the«angry» dishes that pack a hit!). The menu also has some tasty Thai dishes. In addition, they use good quality ingredients, better meats, and are made with love! (2) The décor is bright and cheery, and you can watch the cook from the«open kitchen.» It’s nice to be able to come and see everything, part of their commitment to quality. (3) Portions are generous, and you get a great value for your money. Definitely great to go in a group and share dishes family-style. (4) More than just your basic lunch menu — you can get tasty desserts as well as a selection of teas… Great for visiting at off-times(just make sure they’re open). (5) It’s family-owned. Support local businesses! It’s a little hard to find due to the strip mall location, but it’s close to the Wal-Mart(although not in the same section) and worth looking around for.
