I have been a member of four gyms over the last 15 or so years. I wish I had more dedication, but that’s the way it goes, don’t you know. My current gym is Fitness World West. They have a heated swimming pool. It is supposed to be good for the arthritis. I can say I find it easier to keep up with the instructor in water aerobics. I also spend a lot of my consciousness on not drowning. But, again, that is me, not the gym. The pool is no deeper than 5 foot in the center and no more shallow than four feet at either end. The users are all very accommodating of each other. Lap swimmers climb out before the classes begin and the aerobics class makes certain the lane ropes are back up before we leave the pool. There are plenty of truly fit people around but a lot of us old, f@rts too. So I don’t feel out of place. They have a day care available for the kidlettes. And a group of people out back flipping tractor tires and flicking ropes. Sometimes, it is best not to ask questions. Upstairs they have more classes, weights, bikes, and other machines. Overall, I would recommend this gym to the person who is there to work in a convivial atmosphere.

I’ve had a membership at this gym for several months now. They definitely have a wide variety of services available. I primarily like that it’s not insanely busy around the time I like to go(8 pm) and there aren’t kids running around. There are a ton of cardio machines. There is also a pretty decent weight room downstairs, super weird that there’s only one real squat rack, though. There are a ton of group classes available which aren’t really my thing but there’s anything from weight training to zumba. Obviously there are personal trainers available as well. My favorite part of the gym, of course, is the sauna. The one bone I have to pick is that the other patrons NEVERPUTTHEIRWEIGHTSAWAY. It makes me absolutely insane; I’ve literally never gone to a machine or bench where the weights were put away. It actually makes me super angry every time, and this is why I can’t give this place four stars. I like to get in, complete my cardio and lifts, and get out. I probably spend an extra 10 – 15 minutes of my time minimum cleaning up after other people. They need staff members to do this or just train their clients to be more considerate.

I really like this gym! First, the disclaimer: I pay only $ 25 a month for this through Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Prime Network(check into it if you have BCBS). There are a wide variety of classes available throughout the day for different fitness levels. The facilities are very clean and they seem to have updated equipment throughout. The pool is available most of the time except for when there are family swim times. The sauna, whirlpool, and steam room are great amenities. I like the trainers. They are always available for questions and assistance. I’m glad I stumbled onto this location! I’m very happy with this fitness center.

Coming from a top-notch gym facility at Iowa State University(those tuition dollars hard at work), it’s hard to compare anything to it. I received a pretty stellar employee discount for joining, and the monthly fee here is very reasonable. Some of the machines are on the older side — I’m looking at you, cycling and elliptical machines — but they have updated the facility with new treadmills this year. A weights room, an abundance of fitness classes, and a lap pool make up some of the other positives. They also provide free fitness assessments throughout the year.

While we were in town visiting family, my husband went here for a workout. He came back raving about how this was how a gym should be. Apparently, there was a great selection of free weights and machines, laid out in such a way that you could tell people knew what they were doing. It was clean, the staff were polite and he loved the hot tub and sauna.

Good equipment. Sometimes waiting for weights. Plenty of cardio equipment.
