GREATEMPANADA’S! They are made with this great, kind of course cornmeal that is out of this world. They use the extra dough to make these little churro bites(essentially fried cornmeal dough with sugar) that they sell in little plastic containers fro $ 3. Super worth it. They are very tasty and a fun beach snack. When i went I had the Jalapeño popper, Creole, pork roll egg & cheese, and the chicken and cheese empanadas. All were super flavorful and I recommend getting both dipping sauces, but they were rather small and not very filling. However, the entrees there look incredible. Definitely want to go back to try the rest of the menu!

Our new favorite place to stop by and eat/get our empanada fix whenever we’re in town. Baked empanadas that have s variety of fillings. The rice and beans as well as the coleslaw is delicious too. Loved the cantina setting. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Can’t wait until we can start placing orders to have shipped up north. That’s how much we love the empanadas!

Flavor, flavor, FLAVOR!!! If you were looking for a spot to have a quick, casual bite, then this is the place for you. Choose three baked empanadas for $ 5, and then add some incredibly well-seasoned slaw, chickpea/rice salad, and hibiscus tea and you have one filling and fulfilling meal! We were served by Destiny, who is exceptionally friendly and well-versed in the language of The Foodies. It was great to talk to her about the food that she was serving, and the care that goes into it’s sourcing and preparation. Destiny also gave us great tips on other high-quality dining establishments in the area. We are looking forward to the next time we can dine here.

Both the chef and cashier were very friendly and helpful. I had the pork and provolone, spinach and artichoke, and the sweet potato and apple empanadas. Fantastic! I would recommend each of them. The spinach was creamy, the pork savory, and the sweet potato like a thanksgiving pie! Mmm… Also tried the corn con queso which was slightly spicy addition. Recommend pairing empanadas with the hibiscus tea for a tasty meal!

First off, I come from a multicultural area of North Jersey where it’s easy to get authentic and homemade food. These were NOT the empanadas I was expecting. They were baked, not fried. Normally, this is not a deal breaker but the crust had a gritty texture I was not fond of. The flavors are interesting, we got chicken and cheese, sweet potato and apple, beef and carmelized onion, pork and provolone, and potato, broccoli, and cheese(my favorite of the bunch). The staff was cheerful and very accommodating with utensils and supplies. It’s definely a cuisine that is lacking in the area but I would not go back.

I don’t know how we found it but I’m glad we did. This place is super cute! It’s just a great little gem and I wish we lived close because I crave them! You can get 3 for $ 5 and they have so many awesome flavors to choose from. Between my husband and I I think we tried most of them. The beef and carmakers onion was my favorite and I loved both sauces they gave with them. I think a good portion would be somewhere between 2 and 11 of them :). Cash only. A great snack. A great cute local place. A little off the beaten path but worth it!!!

This place is super cute and affordable. Service friendly and efficient. We came here just as soon as we got to Cape May. I got the frittata. My boyfriend got the empanadas, which he inhaled. While he enjoyed them he was disappointed that they weren’t bigger or at least knew how small they were so that he could have ordered more of them. We shared the red slaw, which was amazing! I had the hibiscus ice tea, which I didn’t enjoy — I gave it to the man and he liked it. We also got a side order of the rice and beans… meh it had a strange taste that neither one of us could identify. I would totally come back next time I was in the area.

Delish! There is a symbol key — each empanada is stamped with a shape and the key identifies which flavor belongs to each shape. Brilliant — thanks! All were good but sweet potato apple and beef with caramelized onion were the winners in my family. The sauces that come with the empanadas were yummy! The«versa» that we ordered was ok — cross between salad and stew/flavors were balanced but texture was off(chunks of soft bacon). I did not care for the cinnamon sugar nubs that came with our food. The next time I order, will try the«vice» and request that the restaurant hold the nubs.

Came here in April 2015. CASHONLY. Gravel parking and not hard to find. Cute place with nice service. Food good for a snack. Empanadas are $ 2 each or 3 for $ 5. Empanadas were a little small, so go for the 3/$ 5 deal. Two sauces are offered but not necessary, especially if you want to appreciate the taste of the empanada filling! We tried spinach and artichoke, chicken and cheese, and my favorite, the pork.

For the type of place this is(casual, small, mainly take-out), it’s terrific! The food is fresh and well-prepared. I had 3 empanadas: carrot-ginger, herb-cheese, & sweet potato-apple, and all were delicious. They have lots of other flavors, and I’ll definitely be back to try those. I appreciated the little touch of putting some fresh thyme with my empanadas. Also, I had the rice and beans as a side. Not only is it a plentiful portion, but the beans are obviously not from a can, and the rice is not starchy. Many have noted that the empanadas are small, and they are, but with 3 empanadas and a side of rice and beans, I was stuffed. All that and a bottle of water cost me less than $ 10. The place itself is very small, but it has been decorated in a quirky adorable way that is charming. Take a look at my other reviews, and you’ll see that I do not praise many places around CM because, IMHO, most are tourist traps, i.e., they have sub-standard food and service and charge high prices. It is so refreshing to find a place where you really get what you pay for(actually, what you get is more than worth the money spent). I recommend Empanada Mama’s!

SOGOOD! My husband, daughter, and I stopped in for lunch and had a wonderful meal. Our favorites were the black bean and corn(we went back for more!), the beef and onion, and the special-strawberry rhubarb. Also the sweet potato and apple. No high chairs, but it was great anyway. They were all delicious and we’ll definitely be back during our next visit to Cape May!

Pretty delicious empanadas. We tried almost all of the flavors and only didn’t care for one. And it was still good. Just not for me. Friendly service, great food and flavors. Would go again and again.

Wow. This place is adorable. The staff is super friendly and everything is homemade and wonderful. My boyfriend and I were down for the day and wanted a small snack before our dinner. This hit the spot! There are unique fun flavors for all of the empanadas. The sides are yummy, too, as is the homemade hibiscus tea! I can’t wait to come back!

Out of the way but worth it! Empanadas are fun for a change of pace. Great variety, hot and steamy, nice people! Kids really enjoyed it. I got the rice bowl as well. Try it out!

An excellent time had by all. We samples a number of the empanadas(sweet potatoes and apple was the crowd favorite), vice rice bowl, and sweet potato sides. Also the mint green tea and frozen fruit nectar with grapefruit and mint. Everything was beautiful, fresh, and piping hot! Cash only, so be prepared(though there’s an ATM). So great, thanks!

Stopped in here based on the reviews online. There was not a single soul in here. It’s off the beaten path of the tourist area. We didn’t want a big lunch. We both had 3 empanadas for lunch and then shared 2 for dessert. They are small so if you are hungry make sure you order enough, it was just enough for me because I wasn’t super hungry. They all were delicious especially the pineapple and guava for dessert. I would go back here the next time I am in town. It’s a tiny little place and cash only.

Visited Cape May for the first time late March. This place was a gem. Owner operated, great décor, tasty vittles, and to top it off a good bang for the buck.

Today was our first visit here. The empanadas were fantastic! Get a three pack, they are not huge. If you can eat, get six, or nine! The dough was the best part. Corm meal and flour mixture, then baked, not deep fried. Pork was my favorite. We also shared the carnitas frittata which was very good. Tomato bisque was good, but on the spicy side for most in my group, although the sour cream toned it down a bit. All in all, LOVED it. I’ll probably pick some up for the trip home tomorrow!

I loved it! My friends and I were in Cape May for a wedding weekend and I saw Empanada Mama’s at the Strawberry Festival. Not only did they know exactly what was what when I asked about vegan options, they had them and they were DELICIOUS. Went again later that day(because they’re closed on Sundays) and had a few more. It’s a great deal($ 5 for 3 empanadas) and plenty of options for vegans and omnivores alike. Really tasty!
