Even though we never found the Heron rookery that was the reason we visited, we much enjoyed our visit, quietly walking along woodland trails lined with abundant woodland hyacinth, woodland anemone, and wild geranium. We managed to outpace a boyscout troop that may well have dampened our enjoyment. Very well kept trails.

West Bloomfield Trail is a Rails-to-Trail Project. This 28 acre linear park meanders for 4.25 miles through West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor and Sylvan Lake. West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve is the west trail head. At this entrance you can either chose to walk, run or bike along the rails to trails portion or you may instead take a nature walk thru the woods with designated stops & loads of informative signs detailing the habitat, wildlife, vegetation etc… and Sylvan Manor Park is the east trailhead. Where trains once rolled, you may now walk, cross-country ski or bicycle amidst wildflowers, wetlands, woodlands, commercial districts and residential communities. Even in winter this is a great resource as you can cross country ski in relative quite or walk or run. during the snow less seasons bikes also take advantage of the peace & quiet but i have never observed many. This trail is usually & relatively quite which is a sad reflection on the sedentary nature of most folks.
