Super friendly staff, clean environment, fun-funky 50−60s music, pork chop sandwiches are fantastic and do not leave without devouring a turtle sundae

I spend quite a bit of time in West Bend in the summer, taking advantage of the beautiful Big Cedar Lake. And after a long day on the water, there is nothing more refreshing than a cup of delicious custard from Toucan. My girlfriend and her family have been coming here for years, and while I just recently jumped on the Toucan train, I don’t foresee myself getting off anytime soon.

Toucan is a regular summer stop for my family after a day on the lake. No one needs to convince anyone that custard is a great thing, especially after soaking up a little too much summer sun. The funky fifties vibe only adds to the fun of scarfing down one of their tasty treats. My suggestion? The rocky road custard, it is pretty outta sight.

Stopped on our way out of town for a burger, fries and custard. Was disappointed they didn’t have any vanilla custard in so you either had to have what you wanted with chocolate or not at all. I settled for the only other flavor… butter pecan — it was DELISH! The burger was ok. The French fries was AWESOME! My friend had the taco cheeseburger — not impressed with onion rings(you only get 5 rings) and not good. Not sure we’d be back.

I finally got to try this place having planned to stop here a number of times but never making it a reality. My disappointing experience tells me I didn’t miss anything. I ordered a burger and ice cream cone. The cone tasted fine but I felt it was overpriced. 2.75. Meh. No big deal. The burger was one of their specialty burgers. Meh. I wonder what makes it special. It was about 6.50 for just the burger. No fries come with that. The wait was a while and they weren’t that busy. The place is nicely designed and the help were pleasant. Burger King does a better job for a lot less. I won’t be going back.

LOVELOVELOVE Toucan Custard. This is partially due to nostalgic fondness(the toucan sign and the custard have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember), but also because of the delicious custard! Wisconsinites know custard like no other global citizen does and Toucan does it right. This is a 50s themed restaurant and right next to a park, so you can grab your cone(or sundae with malt powder & hot fudge — my favorite) and take a stroll through the park. Or you can hang out in the large outdoor patio(in the summer) or the themed diner(in the winter). Toucan is a family-owned place, which makes me even more inclined to be a patron. A few years ago they were threatened with needing to close, but the community rallied and saved this favorite local ice cream shoppe. Ordering and eating all those ice creams that summer was well worth it :)

Such a great summer ice cream place! I always get the hawksbill(turtle) sundae. Yum!

I am not super into the atmosphere of this place, which is unfortunate since I think that’s meant to be its biggest selling point. It’s just very empty inside where you order, making it feel kind of uncomfortable to me. The custard and drinks are pretty good. They do cost a little more than they would at a chain fast food place, but with that comes higher quality. Overall a good experience.

When I lived in the WB, this was a great place on a hot summer day. Not many places in the WB are local, and this is one of the truer gems the city has to offer. Not a bad fish fry, one of the better places to go in town. The rest of their menu is typical wisconsin fashion good, greasy, and right down heart attack alley. Great location right next to a park. When i was about 16 I had a ford fiesta. one of those cars you can pick up the back end by yourself, and barely makes it up any steep incline. Toucans was having one of their come show of your old car themed days, and i pulled up next to some old beauty and beast of a muscle car from back in the days, i popped open the hood of my little 3 cylinder engined car and was joking and having fun right along with the other folks with their muscle cars, me showing them where the windshield washer goes, and talking about the fact that my car doesn’t really have a 0 – 60 time, but i think petal to the metal i could get it up to 60. Good times, great memories.

The building and surrounding seating area are the major draw to the Toucan. The custard is quite plain and unremarkable. None the less, the Toucan’s a great place to people watch and enjoy a nice summer’s day.

By far the coolest restaurant in West Bend! It’s a toucan themed 50’s diner that is very old with great custard! This was a cool place to go when I was 5, 15, 25 and beyond! They have old cars meet there every now– if you’re into that type of thing. The best part is the frozen custard! YUM! Summer in West Bend = Toucan’s!
