JRs Pups-N-Stuff Dog Rescue

I fully support and appreciate what JR’s does to rescue dogs and find them homes, but that’s where my admiration ends for them. If you decide to adopt from JR’s, make sure you do your own homework on the breed of dog you are adopting, because JR’s sure doesn’t. Also, if you have a bad experience with a dog, don’t expect to get your money back. Lastly, be aware that the descriptions of the dogs on their website are not fully forthcoming of what the dog may actually be like.
Our family adopted Nova, who as of me writing this review (2÷7÷2016) is still on JR’s website as an adoptable dog. Just 5 days after we took Nova home, she attacked and almost killed our very sweet neighbor’s small, white dog (Duffy). Both dogs were on short leashes when they were introduced and as soon as Nova got within striking distance, she latched on to Duffy’s neck without any warning and wouldn’t let go. Duffy was immediately taken to his family’s vet and found out there that he had 5 puncture wounds, one of which was close to his jugular, which would’ve killed him, and almost ripped one of his ears off.
Having a 21-​month-​old daughter and our family having several dogs, this type of behavior was not acceptable, so I immediately returned Nova to JR’s, expecting a full refund, an apology for our horrible experience and the opportunity to adopt another dog. Instead, JR’s dragged its feet on giving us a refund (they initially denied us getting any refund and only after I threatened to post on Unilocal among other things, they ended up giving us 50% back 5 weeks later), put Nova back up for adoption just ONE WEEK after the incident (and didn’t change her description on the website, and ADDED she «gets along with other dogs» which it still says as of 2÷7÷2016) and basically blamed us, not Nova, for the incident and then wouldn’t allow us to consider adopting a different dog.
I found out after the incident from someone that has experience with Nova’s breed (Siberian husky), that the breed has a high prey drive towards small dogs or animals, which is something JR’s should know before adopting to our family that includes a young child.
JR’s contract you sign when adopting does say the fees are «non-​refundable» but then it has a huge loophole, saying «refunds for returns after 14 days will be solely the discretion of the director and based upon circumstances of returns. Refunds will NOT be considered if other terms of the contract have been violated.» JR’s initially denied us any refund, saying we didn’t get Nova the proper training that the contract required, so we broke a term of the contract. How are we supposed to complete a 5-​week training course when we had Nova for only 5 days?! Plus, I’m not sure what worse «circumstances» we could have had, short of Nova attacking a human.
After I got only half of our fee back, I threatened to go to Unilocal among other things again and that’s when JR’s got VERY unprofessional. Here are some of the things they emailed me:
–«You have no regard for the well-​being of this dog or any dog.»
–«You did sign a contract stating our policy non refundable adoption fees. Based on your description of the events, you were in a public place with the dog out on a 20 foot lead, eliminating your ability to control her behavior. You had her for a few days. I did not see where it stated whether or not the other dog was on or off leash but the park was NOT an off leash dog park.» — I did not have Nova on a 20-​foot lead when she was introduced to Duffy. Not sure where they got that idea. I never told them that. Also, Duffy was on a leash.
I also posted on their group Facebook page warning people about JR’s and after they kicked me off the page, I found out from someone still in the group that they put a reply post saying that I was trying to get Nova euthanized (I never said that) and called me a «spoiled child» for the threats I made to get my money back (since they denied me my money back initially, I had no other choice). The post blatantly lied and changed the story (they only know what happened from what I told them) and said, «According to him, Nova was on leash and the other dog wasn’t. He said the little dog ‘ran up and jumped at her and she attacked.’ I don’t believe it was a vicious attack because the total emergency vet bill was $ 190. Anyone who has been to an emergency room knows that would not cover a serious attack.» What?! I told them both dogs were on a leash and never said Duffy jumped on Nova. I sent them a copy of Duffy’s vet bill, so they know he was taken to his family vet and NOT an ER.
Look at ALL the reviews on Unilocal (including others not included in the rating when you scroll down), 11 (as of 2÷7÷2016) give them 1 star and 24 5-​star reviews were, not coincidentally, within 1 week of my Facebook post (12÷20÷15) on their group page (JR’s asked people to post positive reviews), so taking out those 24 solicited reviews, 11 of 24 gave 1 star, about a 50% chance of having a horrible experience.

This rescue organization works tirelessly to find the best homes for the most adoptable dogs. Their process is stringent; as it should be. They invest the time and the trouble to do home visits, meet the potential adopters to make sure that their pups and cats are going to be successful in their new surroundings.
My business recently donated a large sum of money to them to continue their good work. We hope we can do more in the future.
If you are looking for your next best friend, consider adopting from them. A+ organization staffed with caring, loving volunteers.

I was a bit nervous about going through a company that has to interview you, and learn my whole life story before I could adopt, but I get it and it went by much quicker than I expected.
I didn’t interact much with Jr’s outside of the initial interview. The real winner in this company is Lorrie. She takes care of many of the dogs before they get fostered out and is the most wonderful individual I have met. She is so very accommodating, and kind and has a passion for what she does. She would do such an amazing job of keeping me in the loop during the process and would let me come look at dogs almost anytime I wanted.
She loved on my little guy as if he was her own and for that I am extremely grateful.
I know that this company drove all the way to Missouri to save my little guy from a kill shelter and for that I ill always be very grateful. They also made sure he had many of his shots and vaccinations, micro-​chip, and neutered and documented it well. There was still some expense at the vet after I got him but all in all the bulk was taken care of.

My girlfriend and I adopted our dog from them, and they were nothing, but amazing, and helpful the entire time. The process of home visiting and adoption was quick and simple. I don’t know about some of these older reviews, but we had nothing but an amazing experience.
We are even thinking about volunteering in the future to help this amazing cause further.

I will agree with just about everything the other reviews have said. We love our doggie to pieces, but were really surprised at how little we heard from the heads of the organization. All communication had to be sent through the foster family. I volunteer with an animal rescue group myself and was really surprised at how poor the communication was. We never heard from the head of the rescue at any point during the process (we have had him over a month now).
The ONLY reason for the three stars is because of how great our dog’s foster family was. His foster dad was always quick to answer a question and was always very open and honest about the doggie. It was clear they took wonderful care of our dog. He unfortunately had to be the middle man for all of the communication between myself and the head of the org, which didn’t seem fair. A month in and our check still hasn’t been cashed and we haven’t received any of his paperwork yet (rabies tag, etc).
Seems they need to work on organization and communication… but, we got an amazing dog and we are thankful for that.

We have as much love for those who dedicate their lives to helping animals as the animals themselves, so it was just as important for us to find a reputable rescue as it was to find the right rescued dog for us.
We happened upon this one via petfinder and were excited to work with them in our search for the new furry addition to our family. Instead, we were met with the coldest responses and the least interest in working with us that we’d encountered from any of the other rescues that we’d also spoken to.
I actually couldn’t even believe it. It was as if we were a nuisance, and unimportant. And frankly, each interaction was weird. I’m not sure what the deal was, but this was obviously surprising and a little questionable given how much they emphasize that finding their rescues a good home are their priority. Whatever the case, I’d save your time and work with a more welcoming organization.
