Something different is not always better but this place definitely is. Gotta try everything from the menu… service is superb also. Favorite spot in Weslaco.

Disappointed in the atmosphere, the service, and the food :(We were hopeful based on a recommendation, but sadly, our dinner was not worth the $ 52.

Staff was good. We had crab cakes as an appetizer. They were great. Loved the tortilla soup. Menu was interesting and varied. The chef is talented and the flavors are good. It’s nice to have something a cut above valley cuisine. I’ll definitely be back.

I really liked the grilled cheese appetizer. I’ve gone back several times just because it’s so good. Their hamburger is delicious and the chips and bread they serve as appetizers are tasty and not your typical Mexican restaurant style chips. I definitely recommend it.

The evil one sandwich is perfect, love the fresh bread. The other dish we had has a name I can’t pronounce or spell but it was so good. I will be back.

My experience eating at O’lei definitely fell short. The first problem that I had with the restaurant is parking. You basically need to be driving a bumper car to even maneuver the tight turns just to park your vehicle. Second, it tries to portray itself as some fancy five star restaurant when the décor and ambiance inside looks like some greasy ass burger joint. Third, Le Chef should be working at a burger joint since she likes sending out burnt polenta to its customers. Refer to picture.

The waitresses were nice and the presentation was okay, but the food pretty much sucked. In fact, I was shocked when the BF asked for a to-go box. «Are you seriously going to eat that?» I asked, as I watched him heap the untouched ribs onto the finished portion in the box. «I’ll leave it for the outdoor cats,» he explained. And Mexican/Asian fusion? Whatever. Besides a few Spanish words on the menu there wasn’t much that seemed Mexican and there certainly wasn’t anything Asian about it either. Bread? Pesto? Mixed greens with a sundried tomato? Honestly, this was just a hodgepodge of things that didn’t go together. ATALL. I think the BF’s words to me as he paid the bill summed it up pretty accurately: «That was some expensive kitty food. Good thing we shared a plate. Want to go for a hamburger?» Here’s the lowdown on what we tried: Strawberry/pineapple agua fresca: Not overly sweet, but pretty much tasteless. I took a few sips and things kept getting caught in my throat. Maybe it would be a good idea to fully clean the pineapple before you serve it. Just a thought. Grilled cheese appetizer: The tomatoes were pink and the cheese was flavorless and weirdly squeaky. It literally squeaked the entire time you chewed it. Very weird. The vinaigrette on the greens was okay, but the«pesto» sauce was pulverized to the point that it was just a green oil with a weird texture. I liked the sundried tomato atop the greens. It was tasty. The ribs: The presentation was lovely and the portion was pretty big, but the ribs didn’t have much taste and were really fatty. We finally got tired of trying to find the meat and just gave up. The sauce didn’t complement the meat ATALL. The polenta squares were okay. The same mixed greens that accompanied the appetizer were served here too. Sliced beets didn’t add anything. The sundried tomato was my favorite part. Another $ 35 mistake. Chalk this one up to experience.

The complimentary chips and salsa appetizer was the first indication that a lot of thought and care was put into O’Lei’s fusion menu. A welcomed and necessary addition to Weslaco’s taqueria-logged restaurant scene.

Great new place in Weslaco. Chinese/Mexican fusion seems crazy, but it works deliciously. Friendly and fast service. Definitely try the Evil One sandwich. Will be back for sure. Weslaco needs more adventure in restaurants and this hits the spot.
