The Manistee River is one of my favorite places to wet a fly. I caught my first trout on its headwaters, my first steelhead in the tail water. And Schmidts Outfitters has always been there anytime I needed something. This little shop has everything you could possibly need for a fly fishing outing. Need a place to stay? Reserve one of there cabins. Trust me you will not be disappointed. By far the best place to stay in Wellston. The rooms are clean, and modern. And the price isn’t to bad either. Need an experienced guide? Schmidt’s has the best guides in the area.

We go up to the Wellston area 5 – 6 times a year to visit my wife’s parents and finding Schmdt Ouutfitters was an answered prayer. There are plenty of small rental cabins and motel style lodging but Scmidt’s tops all other that we have stayed at.
Schmidt’s may be a few more dollars then the rest in the area ($ 85 /​night) but well worth it, things are clean, well maintained, no musty moldy smell, a great place to come back to after a long day kayaking, mountain biking, beach ect.
We always stay in one of the standard cabins, mini kitchen, full size fridge, micro, coffee maker & coffee
