Spaulding Rehabilitation Center At Wellesley

Doctor was obviously knowledgeable and performed a thorough exam, at the end of which there were suggestions for self care as well as more physical therapy, despite the fact that the doctor told me that my previous physical therapy had made me worse. But since my insurance company won’t pay for physical therapy at Spaulding, this was a total and complete waste of time. (And who’s to say that Spaulding PTs are any better? In my experience, PT is a joke. No one I know has improved; many people have gotten worse.) The front desk people were beyond useless, except at taking my copay. The doctor ordered an MRI and told me the front desk would arrange for it. When I walked out to the front desk, there were FOUR young women sitting around chatting with each other, all with apparently nothing to do (and the waiting room was not filled with patients they were helping, so no excuse there). I was told I had to schedule the MRI myself, which I knew was wrong — after all, patients can’t write their own prescriptions. Went home, made some calls, and confirmed what I already knew: that this was astonishingly bad information. (1) All MRI places require the PHYSICIAN’S office to fax them a prescription for an MRI, and (2) many insurance companies, including mine, require that the PHYSICIAN’S office contact them for pre-​authorization of these insanely-​overpriced-​in-​America imaging procedures. Wouldn’t you expect that even if all these young women were new hires, they would have been TRAINED to know this? Apparently not. Either they weren’t trained at all, or every single one of them failed to absorb this basic information. Also, despite the doctor’s knowledge and apparent competence, the doctor told me that my excessively emotional recital of my previous unsuccessful (and damaging) physical therapy was making the doctor «anxious» (doc’s words). I suppose not being able to walk without limping should’ve made me cheery, or at the very least unemotional. My bad for being upset.
Anyway, based on experience from other family members (not myself), Spaulding in Boston is amazing. The suburban outlet store? Not.
