I know everyone has a different opinion of what«good» Mexican food is, for my tastes Maria’s is the best in the area by far. The holy mole appetizer is addicting, crispy cheesy nachos served with the most creamy perfect guacamole. I love the guac here, most places add too much lime flavor, Maria’s is just perfect! I always get the enchiladas with rice and beans for my entrée. You can tell the food is made fresh here it’s not just reheated precooked stuff and I think that makes all the difference in quality and taste! The location is kinda strange and service is sometimes slow but the food is worth it. Oh and I almost forgot the margaritas are awesome!

The food wasn’t that good for the price. Service was alright, but not worth the money.

I won’t go anywhere else for Mexican food! It’s a little hard to find if you’ve never been before, but once you find it, it’s totally worth it. I’ve never had a bad meal. And they absolutely have the best guacamole and mole sauce ever. Inside the décor is really cute. Service is always terrific and everything always comes to the table fast. They also have the best soups and specials. It’s only in Fridays and Saturdays though. But it’s definitely worth going on a weekend for. Their margaritas are also amazing, as well as all of their desserts. Seriously, I’m in love with everything there!

I’m very glad I finally dined here! You see, I was once a big fan of Salena’s and historically, there is a connection between the two. I was very dismayed to see how much Salena’s went down hill since it moved to a new location under a new owner who destroyed its essence. Thankfully, if you remember what used to make Salena’s great, it has been retained at Maria’s. People who rate Maria’s low have an americanized conception of what good texmex/mexican is. Not everything is exactly the same as the original Salena’s but it is as close to it as can get. The el yucateca hot sauces pare perfectly with their food and I first discovered this sauce at the original Salena’s. Of course as I expected even before I arrived, Maria’s provided the same hot sauces which I have tried in a multitude of restaurant in different states including Arizona. El Yucateco definitely goes best with Maria’s. Those rating the place with one star don’t realize how foolish they are putting forth a bad image of a very good Mexican restaurant. They would most likely rate Taco bell better. It’s too bad Unilocal allows everyone to rate and potentially ruin business at a good restaurant. Unfortunately, for what it is, it is a bit over priced. That is the only thing that will certainly keep me from going back as often.

Food is great! This is authentic mexican food! If you think you will be getting food like you would at chipotle you are wrong. Everything is homemade. The chips are fried in the kitchen and salsa is made fresh. For the reviewers that claim that the chips are stale, how could it possibly be stale when they are frying up chips all night? The holy mole is the most popular appetizer and it is wonderful! Chips smothered in cheese and served with fresh guacamole. If you try a burrito/enchilada, you must know that it only comes with meat inside. However, you can always modify it and add lettuce, tomato, onion, jalepenos, etc inside. They also offer three different sauce that you can add over the burritos/enchilada — white sauce, mole sauce, and ancho chili sauce. All sauces taste great over them. If you love margaritas, then you must try them here. they have different flavored margaritas as well. The mango margarita is my favorite. But the house margaritas are the most popular.

— Service was amazing. Estella, our waitress, did not miss a beat. — Food was great. We got the Holy Mole to start(Nachos served with guacamole). It was delicious. — Wife got a guac taco and tostada… delicious. — I got their mole sauce over a chicken enchilada(it’s the national sauce of Mexico), and i will get it again bc my palate was nothing but pleased. — We both ordered their margaritas. Delicious, but strong, so be careful. I was good after 2. It’s not a chain, or huge restaurant, just a small family owned business. That’s what made it feel homey.

Mexican food is by far my favorite food. I make a point to try every new/old Mexican joint in my area, and always try the Mexican places when out of town as well. Maria’s Mexican is by far the best around. Gloria the owner has always done a great job with the food here. In the past 30 years of going here I can count a couple times when there was something off with the meal, but it surely doesn’t take away from the overall typical greatness they provide. The fresh made chips and salsa are almost always great. The Holy Mole nacho’s with guac appetizer is amazing, and the shredded beef, onion and cheese burrito(either enchilada style or mole style) is killer! Best margaritas in town too.

My husband and I took a trip here after not being able to decide where to go to dinner. Its small on the inside but was busy — which was a good sign I guess. I ordered a Tostada and my husband ordered a burrito. We snacked on the chips/salsa, provided and I should have known then what I was in for. The chips were stale and tasteless. The food came out quickly, almost too quickly, and it looked awful. My Tostada was basically just a tortilla with tons of shredded lettuce and boiled chicken. It didn’t come with rice or beans, just one Tostada on a plate. It was terrible. Zero flavor. My husbands looked a little better but I didn’t hear him raving about it. We ate and we left. I don’t plan on ever going back. Just really bland and uninspired food. Pretty disappointed.

What’s up with the new high prices and watered down margaritas? Food is good but not worth the rise in price. Been a long time customer, very disappointed.

Worst meal I ever ate in my life! Boring, tasteless and WAY overpriced. Beef & cheese Burritos consisted of nothing more than slop rolled up in a cold burrito shell. Pork ones were dripping in grease. Chicken was dry, tasteless and cold! Not a condiment in sight! No cheese, no tomatoes, no lettuce, nothing on them! If this is Mexican I’ll stick to Taco Bell! And they actually charged me for sour cream! REALLY??? Did not even offer salsa… Not a chance I’ll ever return! I felt cheated! If I had not been hungry I would have gotten up and left. Never again! If I could give a Minus 1 I would!

The ambiance was totally cute. The hostess was rude. The server was pleasant and effective. The chips were stale and cold. The salsa was pretty tasty. The chili had so much cheese in it my husband didn’t eat his. Yet I didn’t mind it. The beans were fine, yet lackluster. Hubby loved the shredded beef in his combo plate. We found it a bit pricey for what you get.

I was a little disappointed with Maria’s. There was nothing exceptional about it. The service was mediocre. The food was just like most other Mexican restaurants in Rochester. We ordered the sampler for an appetizer. It was weak. Not the big flavors I was hoping for. I got the enchilada with mole sauce. Again… disappointing. My Mexican cravings will be satisfied at La Casa or Dorado.

This place is s little off the beaten path, but we’ve always had great food and excellent service. Our favorites are the Holy Moley and the Chicken Enchiladas. The Margherita’s are out of this world.

We ate at 5:30PM on Friday. It was a very quiet evening, which gives the waitress no excuse for not ONCE checking on us after our food was served. Terrible service. Food was below average, & it took well over a half hour to be served – which is strange considering the low amount of customers. When I walked to the bathroom, I saw the kitchen, which had at least 7 people in it who were all talking & laughing – NOT actually cooking. I will never go back here.

Wanted to go here with my family 12÷23÷14 for dinner. They closed with no mention on their Facebook page, not even a sign on the door. Don’t make plans around this place unless you want to be disappointed.

Maria’s. I just met a Mexican place named Maria’s. And it was the most beautiful mexican food in Rochester(to this date) I ever had. Maria’s… The West Side Story for Mexican food is pretty lame.(see what I did there?) So we traveled to Webster, sent by multiple friends and co-workers, to this colorful restaurant in the downstairs level of an old school/church/community building. The minute I walked in and smelled Maria’s, I knew it was special. It has the chotkes and the good music and the cactus in the window. It’s the kind of sunny Mexican spot that I’ve been craving since I moved here. Get the fajitas, and a side of sour cream – that is my only complaint about this place(it didn’t come on there on its own). The soft, pillowy flour tortillas are the way to go. The chicken is butterflied and golden, and the platter comes with lettuce, tomato, rice and guacamole to fill the tortilla. The chips here leave something to be desired(okay two complaints), but I have since returned three times to get more of Maria’s fajitas. The service is great, the tortillas at least taste fresh, and it’s just a fun experience. Snap, snap I’m ready for the next stomach rumble.

Well I have to preface that I was a big fan when I first discovered this place approximately seven years ago. In the last three years I have come a little less and less to Maria’s because the overall experience has gone down each time. My most recent check in\visit, will likely be my last. Why? Well let’s start with the fact that this place was very successful early on, and yet no improvements to the place they are located in has been made. This time the«temporary» bathrooms were upstairs. The bar is still approximately 4′ x 4′, the waiting area even smaller than that. And then to top it off the place was very cold even with the plastic on the windows attempting to keep the heat inside. The restaurant is located in an old-school house, or church, and so I understand that the owners of the building may have certain restrictions. However with the early years of success a move to a larger place and/or more options would certainly be in order. And unfortunately it wasn’t just the building itself that has really run its course this time. Our food came out superquick; for those who visited Maria’s early on you would know that the wait was worth it because the food was very good. The only thing that came out warm was the kids quesadilla and nochos; both tortillas with cheese on it. And finally the reason that many of us for started coming here, the margaritas, at this point are okay at best. Sorry Maria’s, early success, added with no improvements and diminishing quality of food equals goodbye

The worst Mexican Restaurant we’ve ever eaten at! The staff is slow and apathetic. The establishment is dirty, dusty, and smells of mold(it’s in the bottom of an old church converted to a mall-type situation). The chips were cold, stale, and soggy. Served with bland, watered-down salsa. My «burrito» tasted like a cold, store bought tortilla topped with canned beans, Manwich sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded cheese. My wife and I almost refused to pay the $ 30 tab(we each had only one burrito and a soft drink), but instead decided to never visit this place again. Edit — We wrote this review over two years ago and it may have improved since then(We really hope that it has and maybe the owners improved because of their bad Unilocal reviews), but we no longer live close enough to give it a second chance. To clarify, we actually lived in Mexico for many years before moving to NY and we’ve eaten at many Mexican restaurants in many different states before and after too; Maria’s remains the worst experience we’ve ever had.
