I’m pretty much a regular at this place, as I come here with my boyfriend all the time and the owner and her daughter know our orders by now. As everyone has already noted, it’s a mom-and-pop kind of place, but I’ve seen people from all over town drive to this place just to sample the food(just this weekend there was an entire family from Sugar Land who came after hearing about the place from another family member). The dishes and the banchan(side dishes) are pretty authentic, and if you’re not familiar with Korean food then you might get stuck with something that you don’t like. My recommendations for the first-timers are the Grilled Mackerel and of course, the BBQ Beef. They’re actually meant to be shared family-style(split the price between two people and it starts to make sense why it’s a little pricey for one person) and two people can usually just barely finish one order unless you’re a big eater. They’re always happy to give you more rice or banchan if you ask, so one order is always enough for us. For the appetizers, I recommend the rice pancake with beef. Their lunch specials on weekdays are priced for just one person($ 7-$ 8), so if you’re intent on not sharing then that’s the time that you should go. They’re closed on Sundays and Mondays though, which is a bummer because that is usually when I crave Korean food the most, haha.

Ok, went to Korean BBQ for the first time today. I dunno how many times I’ve passed by without stopping. Saw a few good reviews here on Unilocal and finally decided it was time. Shortly after being sat, the waitstaff quickly surmised that it was my time here, asked me where I heard about it and I was glad to menion Unilocal. After a little bit of Q & A, wife and I decided on BBQ Beef(for me) and some sort of KimChee Stew. My wife descibes her stew as «nicely spicey, will clear out your sinuses on a rainy day». My BBQ beef wasn’t supposed to be spicey, but I requested as much and they cooked to order. Each dish came with several small side dishes, not sure what they were, but complimented the beef nicely. Wife sampled my beef, but I refused to sample her kimchee stew. I know what kimchee is. So overall, the food was quite good, tho I have little idea what I was eating, nor how it was supposed to be eaten. One drawback: the food was a bit pricey for what you get. Would have liked to seen an online menu before going. Will likely go again someday, but I doubt I will go regularly. 4 out of 5. Would have been 5 out of 5 were the prices maybe 25% lower. Definitely worth trying at least once.

I live around Midtown and had to go somewhere off of 45S and Fuqua around lunchtime. So I decided to eat around this area since I’m not on this side of Houston too often. We ended up eating here. It’s a mom and pop kind of vibe which I think is great. Service was good. Our server was friendly enough. Here are the items we tasted: bbq beef ribs and bbq beef: My own dish(although everyone at the table shared their food) was the beef ribs. It was good but not the best korean bbq I’ve had. The marinade was good but I’ve tasted better korean bbq marinades by my friend’s mom and by different restaurants. Sides: They had an assortment and they were all free and delicious. She even asked if we wanted to refill any of them. Tofu soup: Very good flavor, came with 1 shrimp and 1 mussel for small bowl. Although my friend ordered the spicy(you had the option of getting mild, med, spicy). I really like spicy food so I would consider their spiciest as medium. If you were craving asian bbq in this area, I would definitely recommend it but there are better korean restaurants in the bellaire area or long point I10 area.

Meh?.. ok I seem to be on a one star roll… and not by choice. I have been really craving some Korean BBQ, reviews look good on the place and stopped in for evening dinner. The Asian lady working inside greeted me and sat me promptly… it was around 6 pm, place was dead. Ordered from menu… could see two Hispanic ladies cooking my food… while the Asian lady say in main dining area reading some type of Asian magazine. Now when I go to authentic Asian place I expect some type of authenticity to the food… otherwise why not just go to the mall and get Chinese food. This place is a no go, meat was dried out, food very bland, wasted my money and time, arghhh what the heck!

VEGETARIANREVIEW(with meaty observations): I never knew Korean food could be this delicious and interesting for the vegetarian. My mom, Tina W., has brought me here so many times now we just know: if I’m visiting, we’re getting Korean. Mia, the owner, is an amazing chef who takes such care in finding the best ingredients for her patrons. She is a true artisan exemplified in her homemade kimchi, miso, and multitude of sauces. She makes seemingly simple dishes come alive(i.e. the broccoli, the potatoes, the bean sprout sides) and blows your mind with the complexity of her soups(the miso soup is not what you’d expect!). She prides herself on surprising and nourishing you and if you’re up for a spicy challenge just ask for the one-of-a-kind kimchi soup! Vegetarians, let her know up front you’re a veggie and she’s happy to work with you– most of her broths are vegetable based and she’s a wiz at tofu. This is definitely worth the drive!

We were trying to decide what to have for dinner on a Friday night, we drove past this place and thought we would give it a try. It’s a really small place, not a lot of seating. It was pretty empty when we got there. The server got to us right away, she was very friendly. We ordered the tempura shrimp as a starter, and we both ordered the BBQ beef with rice. The food took a while to come out, but they made sure to keep our drinks filled while we were waiting. The Shrimp tempura was yummy, they brought out 6 small bowls of various veggies, broccoli, sprouts, mushrooms, cucumbers, potatoes, and what I thought was tofu, but turned out to be red snapper fish cake, it was surprisingly really good. we both really enjoyed our BBQ beef, it was very flavorful. The menu did seem a little pricey, but the food is really good, and the staff is very friendly. We will definitely go back.

This is my favorite«go-to» place when I’m in the Webster area. Usually for lunch. I know I will find fresh cooked wholesome food. I agree with everything the previous poster, Cindy O, commented on so, no point in restating all that. I am also a weekly visitor there if not more often. I will add to her points that the food is consistently good and fresh. There are no processed food elements that I am aware of. The owner uses her generations old family recipes to make the kimchi and miso paste. All of the side dishes are made by the owner. I’ve learned to love kimchi and it’s spiciness. Other favorite sides are the marinated sprouts and broccoli. The sides change based on market availability of good produce. I think at any given time she has about 8 different sides. Her expertise in the kitchen is to my mind nothing short of a gift. I’ve had many dishes on the menu. None have disappointed in quality. Korean food is not my culture so I go in to it with basic objective criteria. Is it fresh? Attractive? Flavorful? and most importantly not prefabricated fast food. Yes to all. This is home cooking. My absolute favorites are the bean paste soup and kimchi stew. I was nervous about the stew but I understand that it has many devotees so curiosity got the best of me. It is an incendiary red soup with tofu and cabbage with a most unbelievable savory flavor albeit SPICY! When either of the soups come to the table they are still at a rolling boil so don’t be in a hurry to eat. In fact, the flavor gets better as it cools a bit. The kimchi soup is at a much higher level on the scovill scale than the kimchi itself so be fairly warned. It is made to order so will take a few minute to arrive to the table. I also want to point out this important fact; most of the dishes, save for the obvious beef ribs and bulgogi, are vegetarian. Meat is added to the stews in small amounts, almost as a garnish. I like this aspect as it keeps the fat calorie count in the dishes very low. One of the most popular dishes is the Bibimbop in hot stone bowl. It arrives at the table sizzling with soft egg on top that cooks instantly as it is stirred into the sizzling rice. There are meat choices but, I often select tofu. The house made red hot sauce is the traditional condiment for that. I have frequently noticed people wondering what the tan/gray threads in the dish are. They are fern fronds farmed from high mountainous regions. In this restaurant they come from the U.S. They are harvested where they grow wild. Nutritionally, I learned that they actually possess more protein gram for gram than meat. Great to know when trying to stay on a vegetarian meal plan. Although clearly not a vegetarian dish, if you ever need a comforting bowl of chicken noodle soup this is where you want to get it from. A huge bowl of aromatic broth and hand made noodles will make you feel very happy. Love this place. Not just comfort food. but, healthy comfort food. The atmosphere is casual and non pretentious. If it had glitz I might not like it as much. This a a very homey, comfortable place to have lunch or dinner.

Maybe I’m just having a bad run, but in the past week I’ve had bad experiences at two of my favorite local restaurants. Anyhow while the Jeon was excellent as always and so was my Bulgogi, the owner was in a rather bad mood. She actually physically poked one of my dining partners because she felt she wasn’t deciding on what to order quick enough. She rushed us along with our orders and then with our dishes. My other dining partner actually had his hot sauce taken away so that another table could use it; and then when it came time for us to pay she made a terse remark about how there was only one pen for us to sign the receipts with. In the past she’s been quite nice and conversational and I had commented to my friends beforehand about how the establishment was run by a nice widowed lady and her daughters… so I was shocked and embarrassed to have my friends treated in such a manner. We didnt’ arrive late(about 7pm) so I can’t figure out what was going on, other than she was having a bad day. Even the other customers seemed to be getting harsh treatment. I’ll go back, but I’m sad that things were the way they were.

Went in today after reading reviews since we are from out of town. It was close to closing, yet the owner stayed open a lil bit longer for us to taKe our order — she is fabulous! She will take care of you like you are her own. We ordered some pancake and bbq beef. So much food and absolutely delish! When we come through town again we will come to stop by!

Ok so on a whim we were in the area and I spotted this little place. We need a quick bite for lunch so I talked my wife out of fast food and into trying this place. She asked me «what is Korean BBQ»? I had no idea but inspired by Unilocal I said lets try it. It was lunch and there were several cars parked in front which I took as a good sign. It is a tiny place but the woman who runs it immediately makes you feel welcome. I had no idea what to order. We decided to get some fried dumplings and the share a lunch box. We went with the spicy pork in the lunch box and it was great. It was spicy but not too much so. In fact it was perfect for us. The heat complimented the food not overpowered it. The pork and the rice were so good together. Other items were very new to me and some I liked and others not so much. The pickled green beans and cabbage were very good, the Kimchi was ok, and the fish cakes and potatoes were not bad either. I did not care for the bean sprouts at all. The meal also came with fried rice which is very different that your usual fried rice. It was sticky and had veggies in it but was not very fried. It was slightly bland but not bad. The fried dumplings we had as an appetizer were pretty good as well and came with some kin of soy dipping sauce. Overall it was a good experience. The owner was soo nice in helping us order. Our total came to only 17 bucks with a tip. I plan on going back to try other dishes after I do some research. I love these little family places.

This place is definitely a repeat lunch spot. I work around Hobby and it is quite impractical to drive to Long Point for some decent korean food. I had the soondooboo twice and it is quite filling. The staff is very nice and friendly. I brought my non-korean co-workers and they appreciated the place a lot.

I have become a weekly regular at this place. I had been meaning to write a review after I initially checked this place out but just never got to it. Let’s just say, if I don’t have their spicy soon tofu soup here at least once a week, I become cranky and slightly unbearable. It’s a small, family-owned and operated place in the El Dorado strip where Time Out #2 and the new Union Tavern bar is located. Unfortunately, they are closed all day Sunday and Monday but having only like 5 employees at that place, I understand they need a break. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am-9pm and close down between 3pm-5pm to rest and eat. They don’t get too much business and aren’t always incredibly packed so sometimes, they will lock their doors and close early around 8:30 — 8:45pm. So if you want to check them out, I recommend showing up before 8pm. The restaurant is owned by an older Korean lady who is super sweet. She jumps from being front of house to cooking as chef in the back. The daughter also works as a server there and I believe the owner’s relatives(2 females) do all the cooking in the kitchen. I always order the tofu soup medium and the daughter is kind enough to bring me extra spicy sauce on the side for me to mix in. I find that if you order the soup at it’s spiciest, it’s a bit too gritty and all it’s flavors are over-powered by the spice; and if you order it mild, it’s too bland. Ordering it medium with extra spicy sauce on the side is the way to go. Another great dish to order there is the«jap-chae», which in case unknown to you, is a clear-noodle dish stir-fried with mixed veggies and shredded BBQ beef. There is a bunch of flavor and a nice, mildly-peppery spice in this noodle dish. Their soup noodle dishes are also really tasty and the noodles are homemade. My husband always orders the BBQ beef and it still has yet to fail him. The Galbi, or BBQ ribs have great flavor and are nicely marinated. They tend to have a bit of grizzle and be on the fattier side but remember, it’s rib meat. It’s tasty and delicious, avoid this entrée if you’re a health freak. If you’re sick or congested with sinus problems, their hot honey-ginger tea is amazing and just the remedy you need. All the entrees come with 6 – 8 side dishes. The kimchi, potatoes, pickled broccoli, bean sprouts and celery, and fishcake are my favorites. I just can’t seem to get enough of those. I don’t really care for the other stuff. I agree with some of the Unilocalers who say this isn’t the best Korean food ever. It really isn’t. I’ve tried and wouldn’t order again their dumplings, eggroll, or most anything on the appetizer menu except for maybe the pancake. Is it the best Korean food I have ever had? No. Is it the best spicy tofu soup I have ever had? No. But for the Clear Lake area, it is the go-to place for Korean food. I live in Webster, TX and mainly dine and review places in the Clear Lake area. I’m sorry but the traffic on 45 is just not worth it to me to travel into downtown Houston, Rice Village, Kirby area or the Galleria area for great, «hipster-foodie» loving, and very possibly pretentious places to eat unless it’s a special occasion. I’ll skip the tight jeans and black RayBan rimmed glasses crowd for«highly-reviewed» food and try and find just as good small gems here in the Clear Lake area. For Korean cuisine, this place is authentic, perhaps a bit pricey for what you get, but it’s consistently good, they treat their regular customers like family and the service is like going over to your adopted Korean grandmother’s house for some good, comforting food. Does grandma always make the best, fanciest foods? Not necessarily. But it’s always comforting, always tastes good, and always leaves you full and smiling. Here they do the dishes I like consistently well. Place is clean, service always awesome; therefore this place has earned a spot as my go-to place for Korean food in the Clear Lake area.

I have had this place bookmarked for ages and finally had the opportunity to go. I am totally unfamiliar with Korean food(except for Kim Chee w/Nappa Cabbage), so I don’t have anything to judge against as far as the quality of the food. However, I do know that I thought that my dish was simply OK. There was no magical OMG this is soooo good. Everything was tasty, but no wow factor for me. I ordered the BBQ beef ribs and it comes with steamed rice, different Kim Chees(Nappa Cabbage, Cucumber, beansprout, radish and fish cake) steamed brocolli w/sesame oil? fried potato wedges w/soy sauce, and a vinegar? soaked celery. All of the sides were interesting and fine as were the rice and beef ribs, but the ribs were really fatty and I prefer the Kim Chee that Kim Thai makes. All in all, it was fine and I would probably eat here again if it was someone else’s suggestions.

So, I live not to far from this place, and so I finally decided to try it last night with my unwilling son. I am pregnant so I am not sure whether I would have liked the food more of I werent. But being naseous most of the time, everything is starting to look sort of gross. Surprisingly, I orderd the Korean BBQ Gingas Khan which I thought would have been really spicy but it was not. Didnt taste like BBQ, but I havent really tried Korean BBQ before. I didnt like that there was so much beans sprouts. Also accompanying it were seven plates of steamed broccolli, bean sprouts, potato cubes, and kimchis of daikon, cucumbers and cabbage. The place is small and very quaint — intermittently quiet and feels almost like having a big meal with a large extended family although the seating is not as such.

As I type this, I’m munching on leftovers from last night’s visit. And all I can say is mmm mmm goo-oo-ood! Came here for the 1st time and I just want to start off by saying thank you to the owner for accommodating us. We walked in at closing time 9pm(mon-sat 11am-9pm) and didn’t even realize how late it was. The daughter(?) yelled to the back at her mom(?), «are we still serving?» I’m so glad they did. We started off with an appetizer, a large plate of their pancake with chopped kimchi & meat($ 4.99). Amazing! Tasty! Try it! For the main dishes, we ordered bbq beef Genghis Khan($ 13.99) and a hot stone bowl of their rice with vegetables and beef($ 10.99). The server brought out the latter dish in a piping hot bowl with an egg sunny-side up over the food. She mixed it right there in front of us and we couldn’t wait to devour it. The dish also came with banchan(side dishes, about 7 of them), which included 5 pickled items(cucumber, celery, bean sprouts, peas in their pod, and spinach(?)), kimchi(delicious cabbage fermented underground), and pan-fried tofu. Delish dishes!!! Decent 1-stall bathroom. Small hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Friendly owners! We’ll be back soon!

I was looking for something different my last night in Houston. I saw on Unilocal that this place probably fit the bill. this is very much a hole in the wall place run by very kind people. The selection and quality of the banchan was very good. I got too full eating all the tasty side dishes and could barely make a dent in my main dish. That is ok, veggies are good for you! I had the spicy pork and it was lovely, just perfect on a cold and rainy night. I just wish I lived near by so I could work my way through their menu. Didn’t see any eel, but that is ok. Give it a try, but don’t trust your GPS to find the place! I got lost messing around with all the«old farm» roads in this part of town.

I got the Bi Bim Bap. Per all my Bi Bim Bap experiences, it did not have enough beef in it. I’m used to it. That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband got the Cold Noodles. Since his mom didn’t make it, he didn’t like it. LOL We split the Tofu Stew. It was waaaay to fishy for the both of us. This is a cute family owned and operated business. I wish them a prosperous future.

The food was average. And if you are not sure what to order, the owners will be glad to help. The owners run this quaint little«hole in the wall». They are a husband and wife team. Very friendly. If you allow it, they talk with you the whole time. They are quite sweet and funny. What I really liked about this place is that they bring out several little bowls of different little«tasties» to eat with your meal. Pickled peppers and marinated fish bites to name a few. They have this awesome ginger, lemon tea. Yum Yum! They are close to home, so I’m sure I’ll go again.

This restaurant has stolen my heart! Like the previous reviewer said, the service is «as close to home as it gets!» The husband and wife team that run the restaurant are utterly hospitable and sweet to us every time we’ve visited. It’s a very special experience. And the food! Oh the food! No matter what meal you order, you get to enjoy several mysterious and delicious appetizers, ranging from not-overly-spicy kimchi, to addictively-yumm smoked fish, to sweet and salty seasoned yams. The main courses are consistently good; a favorite is the stone bowl bibimbap. The noodle soups are very, very comforting. And, be sure to order their exceptional ginger tea!
