I went to this hospital after I was injured in the Danskin Triathlon. In the last tenth of a mile of the race I stepped in a pothole and dislocated my ankle. I finished the race! haha. and then was taken by ambulance to this hospital. I was in excruciating pain but was not complaining. I cooperated with all the medical personal and was pleasant. From time to time I had a few tears as the pain overwhelmed me but for the most part was quiet. Now I feel the need to say that I am no wimp. I finished the tenth of a mile with one food perpendicular to my leg. Without even coming over and consulting with me, the ER doc prescribed motrin and an ace bandage. HOWCANYOUMAKEANASSESSMENTWITHOUTSPEAKINGWITHTHEPATIENTANDLOOKINGATTHELEGINQUESTION??? At that point, I got upset. I was really hurt. CLEARLY or they would have let me be driven in a car to the hospital. So I asked to speak with the doc. At this point I had tears rolling down my face. However, I was not hysterical or mean. I simply said that I felt that my pain was greater than motrin could help with and asked that I be prescribed a pain medication JUSTFORTHENIGHT so I could sleep. He proceeded to lecture me that 1 out of 4 ‘my age”(I dont think he realized how old I was) was an opiate ADDICT. OK. THATWASIT! I I asked for ONEPILL of pain medication for that night only. And in other injuries have refused or thrown out pain medication. I am an adult, an athlete and someone who works in a hospital. He had no right to make an assumption. I dont think opiate addicts are triathletes. Just a guess. So I told him that it was insulting and reiterated that I would just like to be comfortable for the night. He said«Whatever, I’ll give you 6 pills and thats it! «and then in a contentious tone«Just stop crying» WHAT!?! I am in an ER after running a Triathlon. In pain, and overtired and the doctor is not listening to me and insinuating that I am trying to bamboozle drugs out of him I thought Erin M and Ian F were going to snap, as they had the right to. So we left. The follow up? My primary care physician was laughing hysterically at him. The prosports orthropedic surgeon said I should not have had an ace bandage on at any point. It caused more harm than good. I now am on crutches with a cast for 4 weeks. THANKSHARRINGTONHOSPITAL. note: The desk staff and the nurses were lovely to me and very helpful
