I’m somewhat stuck in the middle because I had two very different experiences. I was up in Weaverville visiting a friend and we all decided to go to New York saloon… not many choices as I believe there is only 2 bars in the whole place. The first night was a Friday. The place was pretty dead. what do you expect in such a small town I guess. I ordered a jack and coke. It was weak compared to the normal heavy handed pouring I am use to at my regular spot(caseys tavern, Canoga Park, CA). Everything was reasonably priced but the crowd turned me off. One of the bartenders was somewhat rude. the owner ended up being from Encino and was extremely nice! Left early somewhat satisfied. Second night we returned was Saturday. Arrived pretty early around 3pm and it was already more crowded then the night before. I guess there was a wedding and everyone came to the bar afterwards. Pretty packed and we had a great time. Played lots of different music, danced, played ping pong and pool. Met a lot of really nice people. Plus all the bartenders were in a great mood. I guess it really depends on who is somewhere to change the atmosphere. All in all I can’t complain… besides a bad experience with someone who was heavily intoxicated, racist, and rude. I guess that can happen anywhere. If you’re ever in Weaverville… stop by. And ask why its called New York saloon. Its not anything to do with New York city or state.

My other bar of choice in the hometown, right across the street from the other, and one I have closed down many a night. The staff has always been friendly to me, but can be prickly when dealing with FT’s.(A town term. The T stands for tourist…) The owner, Dee is friendly and quick with a smile, so don’t let any grumpy employees keep you away. Weed and seven. try it, you’ll like it.

Wow! What a horrible experience at the New york saloon. Stephanie the day bartender is a crazy rude drunk who has violent mood swings that are something like Joan Collins in «mommy dearest». After listening to Stephanie talk trash about our group to other patrons at the bar, we quickly abandoned our full drinks and marched directly across the street to Diggin’s. Please see my outstanding review about Diggin’s and their awesome bar and staff. And DONOTCOMETONEWYORKSALOON!
