Great food! Being that my husband I just moved here, can’t get over the prices! With 4 drinks and 2 entrees + a side our total bill was $ 32! Went in on a Monday night and frankly have to get used to the town rolling up the sidewalks at 7pm decided to try this place after reading all the negative reviews of the Mexican place across the way. They did not disappoint! It’s a quaint little neighborhood joint with awesome food and drinks. Service was friendly and food was hot, tasty and good. We will be back!

I love this place. I have been coming here for years and it is hands down the best food for the price. Tonight was burrito tampico and it was awesome!!! Come by and try Pollo fundito, choripollo, or anything else. My favorite restaurant.

Beef and cheese nachos were on point. Chicken quesadillas were wonderful. With good service and friendly people this place was awesome.

I wish I had something more enlightening to say about this place, but the bottom line is the food here is just not good. I’ve been here 3 times and each time I can honestly say that the food is horribly greasy, has no flavor, and each time the cheese has tasted rancid. There is nothing authentic about this place and should not be called Mexican food. I’m not even a snob for authentic Mexican food, but I do enjoy it a lot and even love the«Americanized» attempts at it which, as someone from the Midwest, I’ve run into a lot. As a result I’m down for some unauthentic, semi-greasy Mexican food every once in awhile, but this isn’t even a good attempt at that. It’s just bad, bad, bad. Their«special» enchilada sauce is watered down tomato sauce with obnoxious amounts of garlic and onion. No chiles, no spice. Chapala’s filling is bland and the tortillas are mush. I’m sad to say that in all honesty, I’ve had frozen enchiladas that tasted way better. The quesadillas are more like a soft taco with a filling that resembles more of a fajita than a quesadilla. They are not put into a quesadilla press or fried for that cooked/usually semi-crisp outside. I guess we should be grateful that they’re not fried because the amount of grease that drip out of these things are unreal! They use a standard small tortilla which is then filled and folded in half and yet for the size, these things drip 1 – 2 tablespoons of grease when you pick them up. Upsides? They do pack their quesadillas and enchiladas with a good amount of chicken or beef. They don’t skimp out on that. Their salsa isn’t bad, but it’s not particularly special either. Lastly, the prices are good but when you consider how awful the food is, that just doesn’t make up for it. If Weaverville had a good Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant, or even a Taco Bell, this place would be out of business.

The food was too greasy. My favorite Mexican place is Tacos Jalisco on Patton — the food is way more authentic there.

Tried eating here several times. No matter how cheep it’s not worth it. I’ll keep driving to Asheville

Food was great for the price. Nice décor for Mexican. Very pleasant and helpful wait staff. Watch out! The floor is slick with grease that is being tracked in from the kitchen. Anyone could slip, fall and break a leg, including the staff. We told the owner’s son who seemed unconcerned until we pointed out that the restaurant could be sued and the restaurant could be shut down by the restaurant inspector for both cleanliness and hazards to patrons. They could also be slapped with a wrongful injury tort claim for failing to correct an obvious hazard. Too bad. Food, staff, choice and price were very good.

For our honeymoon we were staying in Alexander, and Weaverville had the closest stores and restaurants.(Asheville was still a good distance away though we were there about every other day.) So one day we just needed to eat without making the trek to Asheville, and here was this nondescript Chapala Express. It was actually a great dinner! This is very good Mexican and if you are just looking for some food minus the long drive into Asheville, I strongly recommend Chapala.
