The Strand is a movie house, It is not a cinema and damn sure not a multiplex. You come in and are instantly swept off your feet by the olfactory overload of popping corn, real butter, coffees, teas, ice cream concoctions and some others l can’t yet identify. I have yet to see a movie here, every time we are in town we at least stop in to say hi and get some ice cream. Did l mention The Strand is one of the best music venues I’ve ever been in? Last week, we saw Jamie Laval playing beautiful Scottish fiddle music. Tonight, we had the pleasure of seeing a budding Country Music star named Hailey Whitters. The atmosphere is intimate, the musicians are talented, and there isn’t a bad seat in the whole place. I’ll write more Tuesday after l see a movie. When you are even CLOSE. to Waynesville, a stop at The Strand is worth every nickle. Oh, don’t go on a Monday, they are closed.

There are few places left that when caught with difficulties at a register during your order you hear the business owner say,” don’t worry if you don’t have the $ 3 to finalize your payment in cash. It was us being inconvenient to you that we couldn’t process your credit card due to our system failing.” Awesome milk shake called jitter bug with pumpkin ice cream(your choice) and blended with 2 shots of espresso!!! After you order your goodies, see a movie in the back in their theatre from the 40’s. Super nice, we will definitely be back!

Jason Johnson’s live performance was our best experience at the Strand so far. I am amazed at the talent that plays at this charming venue. The Strand is undoubtedly Waynesville’s best highlight. I was also pleased to see Frog Level Brewing’s beers on the menu board.

Stopped in because they had expresso. This used to be a movie theater when I was growing up. Oh and they still show movies here so it is still a movie theater. We just went into the lobby. I got expresso the others got ice cream. Much smaller than I remember as a kid. I remember seeing a James Bond film there years ago while it snowed outside. The expresso was ok but not great. The memories were very worth the stop. Maybe next trip I will have time to see a movie, now that I know.

The Strand at 38 Main is a magical place, a funky single screen theater, music venue, café and art gallery amalgam. An eclectic offering at concessions includes a barbeque popcorn option, good coffee, a great selection of beers, champagne, local baked goods and the best ice cream in the area(Asheville’s very own Hop ice cream). I came in for the first time to buy tickets for a Thursday evening show and discovered I could hang out, get some items done on my to do list with the wifi and enjoy their great playlist. These folks care deeply about offering good film and showcase great local musicians. It’s a labor of love with a very devoted and kind staff. Such an interesting mix of things and delicious treats, it might very well be my favorite spot in Waynesville.
